Social Media and Mental Health: A Negative Psychiatric Impact on Teenagers

Social media, especially among the youth, is growing exponentially in our world today as more people gain access to the internet. However, the sharp increase in social media usage has led to concerns about mental health and overall well-being. While social media can be valuable for staying connected with friends and being informed about the world, it can also bring about a multitude of problems, especially among the youth. This paper aims to examine available research on the relationship between social media and issues such as depression, anxiety, and cyberbullying among adolescents. Furthermore, it will explore how childhood maltreatment can affect how an individual interacts with social media. This paper not only explains how social media could have a negative effect on adolescents, with many of the aforementioned problems being linked to social media usage, but also how social media could also bring about some benefits. However, further research is needed to better understand the complexity of youth’s relationship with social media.

Graph-structured data are pervasive in the real-world such as social networks,molecular graphs and transaction *** neural networks(GNNs)have achieved great success in representation learning on graphs,facilitating various downstream ***,GNNs have several drawbacks such as lacking interpretability,can easily inherit the bias of data and cannot model casual ***,counterfactual learning on graphs has shown promising results in alleviating these *** approaches have been proposed for counterfactual fairness,explainability,link prediction and other applications on *** facilitate the develop-ment of this promising direction,in this survey,we categorize and comprehensively review papers on graph counterfactual *** divide existing methods into four categories based on problems *** each category,we provide background and motivating ex-amples,a general framework summarizing existing works and a detailed review of these *** point out promising future research directions at the intersection of graph-structured data,counterfactual learning,and real-world *** offer a comprehensive view of resources for future studies,we compile a collection of open-source implementations,public datasets,and commonly-used evalu-ation *** survey aims to serve as a“one-stop-shop”for building a unified understanding of graph counterfactual learning cat-egories and current resources.

A Brief Review on Mean Field Optimal Control Problem from a Linear Quadratic Perspective

This paper reviews the mean field social(MFS) optimal control problem for multi-agent dynamic systems and the mean-field-type(MFT) optimal control problem for single-agent dynamic systems within the linear quadratic(LQ) framework. For the MFS control problem, this review discusses the existing conclusions on optimization in dynamic systems affected by both additive and multiplicative noises. In exploring MFT optimization, the authors first revisit researches associated with single-player systems constrained by these dynamics. The authors then extend the proposed review to scenarios that include multiple players engaged in Nash games, Stackelberg games, and cooperative Pareto games. Finally, the paper concludes by emphasizing future research on intelligent algorithms for mean field optimization, particularly using reinforcement learning method to design strategies for models with unknown parameters.

Rise in deaths from drug overdose and firearm injury during coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic and its impact on organ transplantation

BACKGROUND The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic had a profound societal impact in the United States which was associated with a decrease in overall life expectancy and an increase in substance abuse and firearm *** under-standing of changes in mortality trends during the pandemic and its effect on organ availability for transplantation is *** To examine the trends of substance abuse and firearm injury fatalities during COVID-19 and a potential correlation with organ *** Crude rates of population-based deaths among adults(18-75 years)from firearm injury and substance abuse from the period of 2014-2021 were obtained from centers of disease control wide-ranging online data for epidemiologic research *** rates of causes of donor(18-75 years)deaths from 2014-2021 were obtained from the united network for organ sharing *** Average annual percentage change(AAPC)deaths among the United States population were 16.4%from substance abuse and 3.4%from firearm *** in cause of death among organ donors was 10.9%from drug intoxication and 2.1%from firearm *** was a significant(P<0.001)and progressive increase in mortality from both causes during the pandemic(2020-2021)and significant correlation(P<0.001)between population and donor causes of ***-19 exacerbated trends in substance abuse and firearm mortality with a consequent increase in organ donation from donors who died from these two *** Identifying the socioeconomic and regional disparities associated with increase in deaths from substance abuse and firearms can help guide post-pandemic healthcare policies and mitigate their impact on organ transplantation.

From Ground to Grid: The Environmental Footprint of Minerals in Renewable Energy Supply Chains

Renewable energy technologies, while often labeled as clean or net-zero alternatives to fossil fuels, involve substantial use of critical minerals in products like electric vehicles, solar panels, wind turbines, and battery storage systems. This aspect is frequently underappreciated, yet studies indicate it could be a significant area of environmental impact. For instance, research has shown that a typical electric vehicle needs around six times the mineral resources of a conventional vehicle, while an onshore wind turbine requires nine times the mineral input compared to a gas power plant of similar capacity. This paper seeks to analyze the environmental effects linked to the critical minerals required by certain renewable energy technologies. The study begins with an estimation of the future megawatt capacities for each type of renewable technology. Next, it calculates the specific mineral quantities necessary for each model, followed by an assessment of the environmental repercussions tied to their extraction and processing. The results highlight the unique environmental challenges posed by the rising demand for minerals in solar and wind energy systems, taking into account various adoption scenarios.

Atrial fibrillation(AF)/atrial flutter(AFL)is the most common sustained cardiac *** known risk factors for developing AF/AFL include age,structural heart disease,hypertension,diabetes mellitus,or *** study aims to attribute the trends in AF/AFL-related mortalities over the past two decades 1999-2020 concerning race and sex and disparity among *** the best of our knowledge,this is the first study that estimates the trends and mortality due to AF/AFL from 1999-2020 in older adults in the United *** this 21-year analysis of mortality data,we found a constant increase in mortality rates due to AF/AFL in older *** 1999 to 2020,the overall mortality in older adults aged 65 and above,regardless of sex and race,is found to be almost doubled *** a 50.2%increase in the number of deaths due to AF/***,other confounding risk factors such has obesity,prior myocardial infarction,inflammation,hypertension,birth weight,diabetes mellitus,hyperthyroidism,hormone replacement therapy in menopausal women increases the risk in the occurrence or recurrent occurrence of AF.

Hu sheep is an indigenous breed from the Taihu Lake Plain in China,known for its high *** Hu sheep belong to the Mongolian group,their demographic history and genetic architecture remain ***,we analyze 697 sheep genomes from representatives of Mongolian sheep *** study suggests that the ancestral Hu sheep first separated from the Mongolian group approximately 3000 years *** Hu sheep migrated from the north and flourished in the Taihu Lake Plain around 1000 years ago,they developed a unique genetic foundation and phenotypic characteristics,which are evident in the genomic footprints of selective sweeps and structural variation *** associated with reproductive traits(BMPR1B and TDRD10)and horn phenotype(RXFP2)exhibit notable selective sweeps in the genome of Hu sheep.A genome-wide association analysis reveals that structural variations at LOC101110773,MAST2,and ZNF385B may significantly impact polledness,teat number,and early growth in Hu sheep,*** study offers insights into the evolutionary history of Hu sheep and may serve as a valuable genetic resource to enhance the understanding of complex traits in Hu sheep.

Innate immunity in Drosophila： Pathogens and pathways

Following in the footsteps of traditional developmental genetics, research over the last 15 years has shown that innate immunity against bacteria and fungi is governed largely by two NF-κB signal transduction pathways, Toll and IMD. Antiviral immunity appears to stem from RNA interference, whereas resistance against parasitoids is conferred by Toll signaling. The identification of these post-transcriptional regulatory mechanisms and the annotation of most Drosophila immunity genes have derived from functional genomic studies using ＂model＂ pathogens, intact animals and cell lines. The D. melanogaster host has thus provided the core information that can be used to study responses to natural microbial and metazoan pathogens as they become identified, as well as to test ideas of selection and evolutionary change. These analyses are of general importance to understanding mechanisms of other insect host-pathogen interactions and determinants of variation in host resistance.
