An ileal perforation resulting from a migrated biliary stent is a rare complication of endoscopic stent placement for benign or malignant biliary tract *** describe the case of a 59-year-old woman with a history of abdominal surgery in which a migrated biliary stent resulted in an ileal *** with comorbid abdominal pathologies,including colonic diverticuli,parastomal hernia,or abdominal hernia,may be at increased risk of perforation from migrated stents.

Objective: The higher risk and fatality of cardiovascular disease in subjects with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia warrants early screening. Computed tomography angiography is the most promising method at present as a reliable and reproducible noninvasive diagnostic test of cardiovascular disease. We aimed to describe the 64-slice multidetector computed tomography coronary angiography findings of new cases with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. Methods: Four patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (2 female and 2 male) with mean age of 23 ± 9 years were included. Mean plasma total and LDL cholesterol were 654 ± 75 mg/dl and 609 ± 76 mg/dl. Tomography examinations were performed using a 64-row MDCT-CA system (Brilliance Computed Tomography scanner, Philips Healthcare). Results: All patients presented calcified and mixed atherosclerotic plaques in the ascending aorta near the origin of the coronary arteries. More extensive atherosclerosis was found in Case 1 and Case 2 than in other cases. Case 3 has mild atherosclerosis and Case 4 had normal coronaries but plaques in aorta. In addition, we detected myocardial bridging in left anterior descending artery of 2 cases, calcified plaques in postero-lateral branch artery, and calcification in non-coronary sinus in others. Conclusion: Multidetector computed tomography coronary angiography is a useful, non-invasive tool for detecting early aortic and coronary atherosclerosis in homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia subjects and may be the choice of imaging for most of such subjects.

Turkey and the Kurdistan Regional Government:Unlikely Allies?

Turkey and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) of Iraq built a strategic partnership since 2007 based on shared economic and political interests which included energy deals that bypassed Bagdad. Why does Turkey engage in economic cooperation with the KRG that facilitates Iraqi Kurds’secession from Iraq, when the Turkish preference is against an independent Kurdish state? The chapter focuses on three key factors to explain the enduring Ankara-erbil relationship:mutual economic interests, containment of the Kurdistan Workers’Party, and regional power politics. The chapter also investigates the question'How will the recent Kurdish referendum for independence impact the strategic partnership between Turkey and the KRG?'Despite Ankara’s harsh reaction towards the referendum, the chapter argues that the recent crisis will not derail the Turkey-KRG ties. Rather, economic, realpolitik and geographical considerations will continue to push the two actors together in the foreseeable future.

Drought becomes a serious issue in Iraq as upstream countries water policies and climate change consequences. It has negative impacts on different sectors, the environment, biodiversity, economy, and water resources. Long periods of severe drought and no rainfall winter are continuing during the last decades and the trend lines of the drought index gravitate toward unrecorded levels. This research studied the drought by using the standardized precipitation index “SPI” by analyzing the rainfall record since 1980 for the northern prone of Iraq which includes Kurdistan Region Governorates “KRG” (Sulaymaniya, erbil, and Dohuk), Mosul, and Kirkuk to find out the drought pattern, magnitude, and duration, and mapping the results. This index is a very powerful index that is used worldwide when only rainfall data are available. SPI generator is used for more accuracy and confidence. The results show that all governorate has a vital issue and has a drought magnitude passed the thresholds of M = -1.0, -1.5, -2.0, -2.5, -3.0, and -4.0 which means a deficit in the soil moisture content, surface water, and groundwater. In Sulaymaniyah, the record for SPI3, SPI6, and SPI48 respectively is about -3.4, -3.54, and -2.63;in erbil -2.73, -4.67, and -2.72;in Dohuk -4.22, -4.34, and -2.25;in Mosul -2.57, -2.16: in Kirkuk -3.39, -3.04, and -3.41. It is clear that all governorates have depletion in groundwater except Mosul which has contentious recharge, and in erbil, both soil moisture and surface water has no huge deficit due to high rainfall and snowpack in the region. The results concluded that the whole region is subject to drought and under threat of water resources depletion;it needs urgent long-term plans in a sustainable manner to manage and conserve those sources and mitigate the climate change consequences.

Objectives: The main objective of this study was to investigate the effect of Mycoplasma hominis infection on the morphology of sperms and its association with the infertility of men. The patients were referred to the Urology Departments of Mosul General Hospital and Soran Hospital in Mosul and Erbil respectively. Methods: The present study was carried out from April 2019 to March 2020 and the number of the patients group was 108. The patients aged 20 to 60 years. Semen was collected from infertile men of a couple that female failed to become pregnant after one year of regular and unprotected intercourse of marriage and submitted for seminal fluid analysis as well as for bacteriological investigations Results: M. hominis was detected in 14 semen specimens (12.9%) from the infertile men. The teratozoospermia, normozoospermia, asthenoteratozoospermia, oligoasthenoteratozoospermia, asthenozoospermia, oligozoospermia, oligoasthenozoospermia and leukospermia were seen among patients examined. Statistically, there were no significant differences between these forms of infected infertile men and non-infected infertile men (P > 0.05). Conclusions: The results of present study demonstrated that the genital Mycoplasma hominis seems to be widespread among male partners of infertile couples in Iraq. The present data did not show any significant differences between forms of the sperm concentration and sperm morphology related to the infection by M. hominis.

AIM: To investigate the antif ibrotic effects of peginterferon- alpha 2b and taurine on oxidative stress markers and hepatocellular apoptosis. METHODS: Sixty rats with CCl4-induced liver fibrosis were divided into 4 groups (n = 15). Group 1 was left for spontaneous recovery (SR). Groups 2-4 received peginterferon-alpha 2b, taurine, and their combination, respectively, for four weeks. Histological f ibrosis scores, histomorphometric analysis, tissue hydroxyproline, tissue MDA, GPx and SOD activities were determined. Activated stellate cells and hepatocellular apoptosis were also evaluated. RESULTS: The degree of f ibrosis decreased in all treatment groups compared to spontaneous recovery group. Taurine alone and in combination with peginterferon-alpha 2b reduced oxidative stress markers, but peginterferon-alpha 2b alone did not. Apoptotic hepatocytes and activated stellate cells were higher in groups 2-4 than in group 1. Combined taurine and peginterferon-alpha 2b further reduced fibrosis and increased activated stellate cell apoptosis, but could not improve oxidative stress more than taurine ***: Peginterferon-alpha 2b exerts anti- f ibrotic effects on rat liver fibrosis. It seems ineffective against oxidative stress in vivo. Peginterferon-alpha 2b in combination with taurine seems to be an antif ibrotic strategy.

AIM:To study a retrospective analysis of patients who presented to the emergency departments(ED)with complaints related to foreign body ***:Patients older than 16 years of age who presented to the ED between January 1stand December 31stof 2010 with complaints related to swallowed foreign bodies were identified from electronic health records and patient ***:A total of 100 patients presented with a complaint of foreign body ingestion during the study ***,an X-ray was performed on 75 patients,and a fiberoptic evaluation was performed on45 patients.A foreign body was detected in 46(46%)*** diagnostic yield of the X-ray was 27(36%)out of 75 patients,while the diagnostic yield of the fiberoptic evaluations was 21(47%)out of 45 *** detected foreign bodies were mostly located in the esophagus(17 out of 46 foreign bodies detected).When the types of ingested foreign bodies were evaluated,52(52%)patients reported ingesting food,and19(19%)patients reported swallowing *** X-ray was performed on 33 patients with accidental food ingestions but yielded a positive result in only two *** 12 out of 21 patients with accidental food ingestion who underwent fiberoptic evaluation,the foreign material was detected and ***:Plain radiography is helpful in the localization of radiopaque swollen foreign bodies,while fiberoptic methods are useful as both diagnostic and therapeutic tools,regardless of radiopacity.

Background:Radial and ulnar nervus injuries are among the most common peripheral nerve injuries in veterinary *** this study,it was aimed to evaluate electroacupuncture applications in radialis and ulnaris nervus ***:New Zealand rabbits were used in the *** were divided into treatment groups and control *** treatment groups included the acute nerve injury group and the chronic nerve injury *** control groups included the positive control group(damaged but no treatment),and the negative control group(no damage but with electroacupuncture).Hegu(LI4),Shousanli(LI10),Taichong(LR3)and Zusanli(ST36)acupoints were used for electroacupuncture *** the treatment period,clinical examinations of the rabbits were ***:The deep pain sensation and resistance to the applied pulling force in the legs of the rabbits in the treatment groups(both acute nerve injury group and the chronic nerve injury group)were statistically significantly increased(P˂0.001 for all).Again,the rabbits in the treatment groups were found to be in a better condition than the positive control group in terms of using their legs while walking and using their claws,and there was a statistically significant difference(P˂0.001 for all).Electroacupuncture is an effective treatment for both acute and chronic nerve injuries,as well as being more effective in acute cases than in chronic ***:Electroacupuncture based on LI4,LI10,LR3 and ST36 acupoints is an effective treatment in rabbits’radial and ulnar nervus injuries.
