Objective. Assisted delivery is necessary in many obstetrical conditions but is involved in maternal and foetal complications. The legal pressure and the commendable aim consisting in less neonatal morbidity and mortality have called forth a reflection about the type and the way of instrumental foetal extraction. In 1950, Thierry had already felt this problem and he invented spatula to replace obstetrical forceps. Although this instrument appears empirically little deleterious, literature about its evaluation is very poor. We studied this instrument in a retrospective 190 cases series. Patients and method. Retrospective study of 190 Thierry’s spatula extractions, over a seven- year period (January 1996 to December 2002), at the Centre Hospitalier G′ eral of Montb′ en′ eliard. Results. Out of a total of 8126 deliveries for the study period, the instrumental extraction rate was 5.3% , with 40.6% spatula extractions (190 cases). No failure of Thierry’s spatula extraction was noted. Discussion et conclusion. Our study concludes that spatula is efficient but does not usually permit anterior rotation of occipito- posterior presentation. Maternal and foetal morbidity is not frequent.

since the mid-nineteenth century., when the first of the Nordic Geological surveys were established, they have generated a substantial amount of information on the Earth＇s crust, its natural resources, its processes, and on the geological history of Nordic areas. The collective mission of the geological surveys is to carry out ＂Geology for society＂, by doing research and providing services, and by making geological information and data easily accessible to all the varied end users in industry, government agencies, government institutes, public administrations, technical offices, academia and research institutes, as well as for private individuals. The present paper gives a brief overview of a few, selected, research areas and projects currently undertaken by the Nordic geological surveys. These serve as practical examples of how the Nordic geological surveys address important societal problems and challenges that require geological input for their solution.

BACKGROUND chromofungin(chr:chromogranin-A 47-66)is a chromogranin-A derived peptide with anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial *** colitis(UC)is characterized by a colonic decrease of chr and a dysregulation of dendritic CD11c+*** To investigate the association between chr treatment and dendritic cells(DCs)-related markers in different immune compartments in *** A model of acute UC-like colitis using dextran sulphate sodium(Dss)was used in addition to biopsies collected from UC *** Intrarectal chr treatment reduced the severity of Dss-induced colitis and was associated with a significant decrease in the expression of CD11c,CD40,CD80,CD86 and interleukin(IL)-12p40 in the inflamed colonic mucosa and CD11c,CD80,CD86 IL-6 and IL-12p40 within the mesenteric lymph nodes and the ***,chr treatment decreased CD80 and CD86 expression markers of splenic CD11c+cells and decreased NF-κB expression in the colon and of splenic CD11c+*** vitro,chr decreased CD40,CD80,CD86 IL-6 and IL-12p40 expression in naïve bone marrow-derived CD11c+DCs stimulated with *** studies demonstrated an impact of chr on the NF-κB *** patients with active UC,chr level was reduced and showed a negative linear relationship with CD11c and *** chr has protective properties against intestinal inflammation via the regulation of DC-related markers and CD11c+*** could be a potential therapy of UC.

AIM: To evaluate the diagnostic yield(inflammatory activity) and efficiency(size of the biopsy specimen) of spyGlassTM-guided biopsy vs standard brush cytology in patients with and without primary sclerosing cholangitis(PsC).METHODs: At the University Medical Center Mainz, Germany, 35 consecutive patients with unclear biliarylesions(16 patients) or long-standing PsC(19 patients) were screened for the study. All patients underwent a physical examination, lab analyses, and abdominal ultrasound. Thirty-one patients with non-PsC strictures or with PsC were scheduled to undergo endoscopic retrograde cholangiography(ERC) and subsequent per-oral cholangioscopy(POC). standard ERC was initially performed, and any lesions or strictures were localized. POC was performed later during the same session. The Boston scientific spyGlass systemTM(Natick, MA, United states) was used for choledochoscopy. The biliary tree was visualized, and suspected lesions or strictures were biopsied, followed by brush cytology of the same area. The study endpoints(for both techniques) were the degree of inflammation, tissue specimen size, and the patient populations(PsC vs non-PsC). Inflammatory changes were divided into three categories: none, low activity, and high activity. The specimen quantity was rated as low, moderate, or ***: spyGlassTM imaging and brush cytology with material retrieval were performed in 29 of 31(93.5%) patients(23 of the 29 patients were male). The median patient age was 45 years(min, 20 years; max, 76 years). Nineteen patients had known PsC, and 10 showed non-PsC strictures. No procedure-related complications were encountered. However, for both methods, tissues could only be retrieved from 29 pa-tients. In cases of inflammation of the biliary tract, the diagnostic yield of the spyGlassTM-directed biopsies was greater than that using brush cytology. In the Arctic,environment and health are linked in myriad ways.A key emphasis has been on numerous long-lived contaminants in traditional foods,particularly marine mammals,and their well-documented impacts on human,animal and environmental health(“One health approach”).More recent concerns for Indigenous communities focus on the(side)effects of the switch to a modern,processed diet,which is accompanied by a loss of tradition and emerging health ***,the availability of traditional foods is increasingly threatened by the impacts of climate change,which also causes the emergence and spread of new and old diseases,such as *** change,including thawing permafrost and new forest fire regimes,threatens the built environment and *** particular,well-built,planned,and healthy housing is urgently needed,given that much time is spent *** care,particularly for remote and Indigenous communities,is sparse,and often ignores traditional knowledge and local *** communities in the Arctic continue to suffer from marginalization,resource colonization/extraction,and the impacts of *** examples of the green energy transition,such as in Norway,continue a pattern of ignoring Indigenous rights and ***,the connection between environment and health in the Arctic is multifaceted and complex,and investigations and solutions ought to embrace an interdisciplinary and holistic approach toward improving Environmental and Human Health in the region.

Objective: To study the development of visual acuity in termborn children with cerebral visual impairment and a history of neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. Methods: We studied 19 term-born children, aged 6 months to 6 years, with moderate to severe neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy and behaviors indicative of cerebral visual impairment. Longitudinal measures of grating acuity were obtained using preferential looking (PL) and visual evoked potential (VEP) procedures. Visual acuities at first and last visits were compared. The courses of acuity development in the 9 children who underwent both VEP and PL acuity assessment at 4 or more ages were compared with normal development. Results: All children had measurable PL and VEP acuity, despite poor visual behavior. In nearly all, both PL and VEP acuity were below normal for age. For both PL and VEP measures, acuity at the last visit was, on average, 1 octave better than at the first visit, with a rate of improvement lower than normal. Although parallel courses of PL and VEP development occurred in many, substantial disparities in PL and VEP acuity were observed in others. Conclusions: Modest increases in PL and VEP grating acuity occur during early childhood in many of these patients. The rate of increase is lower than normal.
