The Origin of Paleokarst in the Huanglong Formation of the Eastern Sichuan Basin:Evidence from δ^(13)C, δ^(18)O and ^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr

Karst rocks from the Huanglong Formation exposed at the margin of the Eastern Sichuan Basin can be divided into four types：slightly corroded, moderately corroded porous, intensely corroded brecciated and intensely corroded and replaced secondary calcic karstic rocks. The carbon, oxygen and strontium isotope compositions of the various karst rocks are analyzed systematically and compared to rocks without karst corrosion. The results indicate that（1） the Huanglong Formation in the eastern Sichuan Basin was a restricted bay supplied and controlled by freshwater in which mudmicrite and mud-dolomicrite exhibit low δ13C and δ18O values and high 87Sr/86 Sr ratios;（2） all types of karstic rocks in the paleokarst reservoirs of the Huanglong Formation in the research area are affected by atmospheric freshwater with the δ13C and δ18O values and 87Sr/86 Sr ratios in the original formation approaching those of atmospheric freshwater, which reflects ancient hydrological conditions, fluid properties, isotopic source and the fractionation effect;（3） the intensely corroded and replaced secondary limestone is affected by a variety of diagenetic fluids, often reflected by δ13C and δ18O values, while the 87Sr/86 Sr ratios exhibit the strong degree of the corrosion;（4） after comparing the 87Sr/86 Sr ratios of each type of karst rock, the diagenetic fluids are determined to be mainly atmospheric freshwater, and depending on the strength of corrosion, and the low 87Sr/86 Sr ratio fluids in the layer will participate in the karst process. The carbon, oxygen, and strontium isotopes of different karstic reservoirs can provide meaningful geochemical information for forecasting and evaluating the development and distribution rules of the Huanglong Formation at the margin of the eastern Sichuan Basin in time and space.

Geochemical Characteristics of Natural gas in the Upper Permian Reservoir of the Eastern Sichuan Basin， China: Implication of Multiple Sources Mixing

For an improved understanding of gas enrichment mechanism in the eastern Sichuan Basin， South China， twelve natural gas samples were obtained from carbonate reservoirs of the Upper Permian strata to analyze the hydrocarbon and non-hydrocarbon gas compositions， stable carbon and hydrogen isotopes ratios of hydrocarbons， and noble gas isotope ratios. The gas samples in the Upper Permian reservoirs principally consist of alkane gas with a dryness ratio ranging from 127.9 to 1564.4. The carbon isotope ratio of methane (δ13C1) was almost constant at –34.1‰ to –31.3‰， but the carbon isotope ratio of ethane (δ13C2) varied from –36.6‰ to –25.8‰. The hydrogen isotope ratio of methane (δ2HC1) also displayed a wide range from –137‰ to –127‰. The large variations in the dryness ratio， δ13C2，and δ2HC1with almost constant δ13C1suggest the mixing of sapropelic and humic origins for hydrocarbon gases in these reservoirs. A high concentration of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) originated from the thermochemical sulfate reduction (TSR)， which was positively correlated with δ13C1(or δ13C2) in individual gas fields. TSR altered δ13C1(or δ13C2) and resulted in the abnormal character of isotopic reversal in the individual samples. The δ13C1(or δ13C2) in most gas samples， independent of H2S concentration， further displayed reversed carbon isotopes because of the mixture of thermogenic gases with various thermal maturity levels. The measured argon isotope ratio (40Ar/36Ar) varied from 310 to 1225， which suggests that the oldest 320 Myr source rock age corresponds to Permian shales. The analysis of the gas origin and the identification of primary source rock have made a significant contribution to further understanding the resource potential and distribution of natural gas in the Upper Permian， and have great implications for gas exploration in the eastern Sichuan Basin.

Geochemical characteristics and diagenetic fluids of dolomite reservoirs in the Huanglong Formation, Eastern Sichuan Basin, China

Based on a comprehensive study of texture,diagenetic behavior and evolution of dolomite in the Huanglong Formation,trace （e.g.,Fe,Mn and Sr） and rare earth element （REE） geochemistry,andisotopic characteristics （e.g.,C,O and Sr）,four types of diagenetic fluids are identified in the Huanglong Formation dolomite reservoirs of the Eastern Sichuan Basin,China：1）：marine-derived pore waters in the marine diagenetic environment,2） sabkha compaction brine conserved in the early shallowburied diagenetic environment,3） strongly-oxidizing low-temperature meteoric water in the seepagesubsurface flow diagenetic environment,and 4） strongly reducing deeply seated mixed hot brine in the middle and deep burial diagenetic environment.The fluids developed hereditarily from one environment to another,which resulted in its respective characteristics.Fluid characteristics play an important role in the development of dolomite reservoirs：1） dolomitization by marine-derived pore water in the quasisyngenetic stage did not form an effective reservoir; 2） early diagenetic burial dolomitization by the sabkha compaction brine formed the basis for reservoir development; 3） meteoric water karstification in the paleo-epidiagenetic stage expanded both the distribution and the size of the reservoirs,and improved the reservoir quality; 4） deep-burial dissolution and tectonic fracturing in the reburial diagenetic stage further improved reservoir porosity and permeability.

Sedimentary architecture and distribution of intra-platform shoal in sequence framework of Permian Changxing Formation in central Sichuan Basin,SW China

Based on the comprehensive analysis of core, thin section, logging and seismic data, this study carried out the identification and comparison of Permian Changxing Formation sequences, clarified the typical sedimentary architectures of intra-platform shoal, investigated the vertical and horizontal development and distribution of intra-platform shoal in each sequence, and thus established the sedimentary evolution model of shoal body. The study results are reflected in four aspects.First, there are two complete third-order sequences(SQ1 and SQ2) in Changxing Formation in central Sichuan Basin. SQ1 is generally thick in the north and thin in the south, and SQ2 shows a thickness differentiation trend of “two thicknesses and three thinnesses”. Second, the Changxing Formation in central Sichuan Basin mainly develops intra-platform shoal, inter-shoal sea and intra-platform depression subfacies. In the vertical direction, the intra-platform shoal mainly presents two typical sedimentary sequences: stable superposed and high-frequency interbedded. Third, the stable superimposed sedimentary sequence is developed in the shoal belt at the edge of intra-platform depression, which is composed of two shoal-forming periods and located in the highstand systems tracts(HSTs) of SQ1 and SQ2. The high-frequency interbedded sedimentary sequence is developed in the southern shoal belt of intra-platform depression, which is composed of four shoal-forming periods and mainly located in the HST of SQ2. Fourth, during the SQ1 deposition, the intra-platform shoal was mainly developed at the edge of the intra-platform depression on the north side of the study area, and the inter-shoal sea subfacies was mainly developed on the south side. During the SQ2 deposition, the intra-platform shoal was widely developed in the area, forming two nearly parallel intra-platform shoal belts. The study results provide direction and ideas for exploration of Changxing Formation intra-platform shoal reservoirs in central Sichuan Basin.

Based on comprehensive analyses of occurrence,petrological observation,pore structure and geochemistry,the different reservoir characteristics and reservoir evolutionary pathways between different oolitic shoal reservoir types of the Feixianguan Formation on the west side of the Kaijiang-Liangping Trough have been studied.There exist three stages of high-energy slope break belts in the Feixianguan period,the corresponding three stages of oolitic shoals gradually migrating in the direction of the trough.Three types of oolitic shoal reservoirs,namely,residual-oolitic dolomite,mold-oolitic dolomite and sparry oolitic limestone,were formed during sedimentary-diagenetic evolution,the pore types being intergranular dissolved pore,mold pore(or intragranular dissolved pore)and residual intergranular pore,respectively.The petrology,physical properties and pore structure of the different types of oolitic shoal reservoirs are quite different.Residual-oolitic dolomite reservoirs have the best quality,while sparry oolitic limestone reservoirs have the poorest.Combined with analyses of trace elements,rare earth elements and carbon-oxygen isotopes,it is suggested that the formation of residual-oolitic dolomite reservoirs is jointly controlled by penesaline seawater seepage-reflux dolomitization and hydrothermal dolomitization.Mold-pore oolitic dolomite reservoirs are controlled by penesaline seawater seepage-reflux dolomitization and meteoric water solution.The burial dissolution of organic acid not only further improves the reservoir qualities of previously formed oolitic dolomite reservoirs,but also preserves residual intergranular pores in the sparry oolitic limestone reservoirs.

Geological structures and potential petroleum exploration areas in the southwestern Sichuan fold-thrust belt, SW China

Based on the latest geological,seismic,drilling and outcrop data,we studied the geological structure,tectonic evolution history and deformation process of the southwestern Sichuan fold-thrust belt to find out the potential hydrocarbon exploration areas in deep layers.During key tectonic periods,the southwestern Sichuan fold-thrust belt developed some characteristic strata and structural deformation features,including the Pre-Sinian multi-row N-S strike rifts,step-shaped platform-margin structures of Sinian Dengying Formation,the western paleo-uplift in the early stage of Late Paleozoic,the Late Paleozoic–Middle Triassic carbonate platform,foreland slope and forebulge during Late Triassic to Cretaceous,and Cenozoic multi-strike rejuvenated fold-thrusting structures.The fold-thrust belt vertically shows a double-layer structural deformation controlled by the salt layer in the Middle Triassic Leikoupo Formation and the base detachment layer at present.The upper deformation layer develops the NE-SW strike thrusts propagating toward basin in long distance,while the deeper deformation layer had near north-south strike basement-involved folds,which deformed the detachment and thrusting structures formed earlier in the upper layer,with the deformation strength high in south part and weak in north part.The southern part of the fold-thrust belt is characterized by basement-involved fold-thrusts formed late,while the central-northern part is dominated by thin-skin thrusts in the shallow layer.The Wuzhongshan anticlinal belt near piedmont is characterized by over-thrust structure above the salt detachment,where the upper over-thrusting nappe consists of a complicated fold core and front limb of a fault-bend fold,while the deep layer has stable subtle in-situ structures.Favorable exploration strata and areas have been identified both in the upper and deeper deformation layers separated by regional salt detachment,wherein multiple anticlinal structures are targets for exploration.Other potential exploration strata and areas in

As a typical kind of lithologic reservoirs,reef reservoirs are generally featured by their large single-well reservoir thickness,good reservoir physical properties,and high gas well productivity.The Upper Permian Changxing Formation is an important natural gas exploration target in the Sichuan Basin,which hosts a large reef gas reservoir and is mainly distributed along the Kaijiang-Liangping Trough.Comprehensive analyses are implemented to investigate reservoir characteristics and identify controlling factors of reef reservoirs in Changxing Formation in the Eastern Longgang Area,Northeastern Sichuan Basin,including core,logging,and seismic data analyses.Changxing Formation reservoirs in the study area mainly occur in the reef-shoal complex,which are featured by wide distribution,large thickness and generally good physical properties.Reservoir rocks are dominantly composed of bioclastic dolomite and silty-fine dolomite(with grain phantom structure),while the main reservoir space consists of residual intergranular pores,intergranular dissolution pores,and karst vugs.In the seismic profiles,typical mound-shaped chaotic reflections can be clearly seen.It is suggested by the main reservoir development controlling factor analysis that the distributions of reef reservoirs are typically controlled by sedimentary facies belts,while the scale of the reef-shoal complex is determined by the pene-sedimentary micro-paleo-geomorphology.Dolomitization can not only significantly preserve the primary pores but also enhance the permeability of rocks.Moreover,karstification is the key to high-quality reef-shoal reservoirs.

Digitized Outcrop Geomodeling of Ramp Shoals and its Reservoirs： as an Example of Lower Triassic Feixianguan Formation of Eastern Sichuan Basin

Numerous hydrocarbon accumulations are found in ramp crest shoals worldwide and therefore this depositional setting has a high potential of being the hydrocarbon reservoir. In this paper, we combined digital outcrop geology and traditional geological mapping to build an outcrop-based geocellular model of the ramp-crest shoal complex of the Lower Triassic Feixianguan Formation in the Eastern Sichuan Basin. The outcrop model serves as an analogue for the subsurface reservoir of the Feixianguan Formation and illustrates the complexity of the lithofacies types, stratigraphic architecture, and reservoir heterogeneities at a scale below conventional subsurface data resolution. The studied ramp -crest shoal complex consists of thirteen types of lithofacies that can be grouped into three facies-groups corresponding to subtidal intraclastic shoal, sub- to inter-tidal oolitic shoal, and tidal flat depositional environments respectively. The stratigraphic architecture of the shoal complex shows mostly a strong progradation of the high energy facies associated with an overall decrease of accommodation space associated with relative sea level still stand. Two reservoir facies associations have been recognized. The first one consists of supratidai dolomudstone and upper intertidal partially dolomitized oolitic packstone with anhydrite or nodules. These facies were deposited above the high energy oolitic grainstones and occurs as thin-bedded and laterally continuous layers, characterized by high porosity and low permeability. The second reservoir facies association is composed of intertidal crystalline dolomite and subtidal intraclastic bindstone that occurs stratigraphically below the oolitic grainstones. These deposits consist of massive laterally discontinuously beds, and are characterized by high porosity and high permeability. There are many emergency risks in the process of natural gas hydrate(NGH)drilling.In order to ensure the safe and efficient exploitation of NGH,it is urgent to establish an intelligent judgment method for the risks in the process of NGH drilling.In this paper,the response relationship between monitoring parameters and risk categories of NGH while drilling is established.Based on fuzzy analytic hierarchy process(FAHP),the comprehensive weights of 10 risk monitoring parameters are obtained,including gas production,wellbore instability,hydrate ice barrier,drill string fracture,sticking,bit balling,drilling tool piercement,gas seepage,seabed subsidence and seabed landslide.Besides,the comprehensive judgment weight matrix is constructed,and the reasonable fluctuation range of monitoring parameters is formed.Thus,the intelligent judgment method of NGH drilling risk is established.The intelligent judgment and alarm of NGH drilling risks can be realized quickly and accurately by this method,namely,it can monitor the risks in the process of operation and guarantee the construction safety of NGH drilling.

Sedimentary Facies of Marine Shale gas Formations in Southern China： The Lower Silurian Longmaxi Formation in the Southern Sichuan Basin

Sedimentary facies is an important factor influencing shale gas accumulation. It not only controlls hydrocarbon generation, but also affects reservoir characteristics and distribution. This paper discusses the Lower Silurian Longmaxi Formation in the south of the Sichuan Basin. Outcrop, core, drilling and logging data identify the sedimentary facies of the formation as continental shelf facies, which is divided into two subfacies： an inner shelf and an outer shelf subfacies. These two subfacies can be further divided into seven microfacies： muddy silty shallow shelf, calcareous silty shallow shelf, muddy limy shallow shelf, storm flow, muddy deep shelf, silty muddy deep shelf and contour current microfacies. Vertical and horizontal distribution of microfacies establishes a sedimentation model of the continental shelf facies. Combined with analization or calculation of geochemical, mineralogical, physical and gas-bearing properties of samples, sedimentary microfacies is evaluated using nine parameters： total organic carbon content, effective shale continuous thickness, vitrinite reflectance, kerogen type, mineral components, porosity, permeability, water saturation and gas content. The evaluation revealed that the most favorable facies for shale gas exploration and development are the muddy deep shelf and part of the silty muddy deep shelf microfacies, with TOC more than 2%, siliceous component over 50%, clay less than 30%, porosity more than 3%, water saturation lower than 40%, gas content greater than 2 m3/t. These results provide a theoretical basis for deciston-making on the most promising areas for shale gas exploration in the Sichuan Basin and for marine shale gas exploration and development in South China.
