Background: Modern contraceptive use among women of reproductive age (15 - 49 years) is a public health priority in Tanzania. The national prevalence remains unacceptably low as 32%. Shinyanga region is one among the regions with lowest contraceptive prevalence rate (21%) and high unmet need for family planning (23%). Understanding factors contributing to its use may help to improve maternal and child health. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and determinants of modern contraceptive use among women of reproductive age. Methods: A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted in Kishapu district of Shinyanga region: A total of 602 women aged 15 - 49 years were interviewed using a standardized questionnaire. Data were analysed using SPSS version 20.0. Odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals for factors associated with use of modern contraceptives were estimated in multivariable logistic regression models. Results: The prevalence of modern contraceptive use was 42.7%. Being employed (OR 2.42, 95% CI: 1.13 - 5.18), formal educational level (OR 2.45, 95% CI: 1.38 - 4.35), couples communication (OR 2.44, 95% CI: 1.74 - 3.42) and availability of modern contraceptives (OR 1.94, 95% CI: 1.17 - 3.20) were significantly associated with current use of modern contraceptives. Husband disapproval was frequently reported as barrier for modern contraceptives in the study area. Conclusions: Numerous factors were associated with use of modern contraceptives. Husband disapproval was frequently reported as barrier for contraceptive use. Strategies to promote the importance of modern contraceptives use in the study area are warranted. district health office and concerned stakeholders should encourage male involvement for family planning.

Shanghai experienced the longest rainy days in 2018/2019 winter since 1988. The physical cause of such an unusual climate condition was investigated through the diagnosis of observational data. From a seasonal perspective, a long persistent rainy winter was often associated with an El Ni?o condition in the equatorial Pacific. This abnormal oceanic condition induces a remote teleconnection pattern with pronounced low-level southerly anomalies over East *** wind anomalies transported moisture from tropical oceans and caused persistent rainfall in East Asia. Meanwhile, the local rainfall time series exhibited a strong quasi-biweekly oscillation (QBWO). Three persistent rainy events were identified in the 2018/2019 winter and they all occurred during the active phase of the QBWO. The first two events were associated with a low pressure anomaly west of Shanghai. Southerly anomalies associated with the low pressure system advected high mean moisture into central eastern China, leading to the persistent rainfall *** third event was associated with a high pressure anomaly in lower troposphere to the east of Shanghai, which induced anomalous southerlies to its west, favoring the occurrence of rainfall in Shanghai. The result suggests the importance of high-frequency variability in affecting seasonal rainfall anomalies.

Revised national tuberculosis control programme in India has limited co-hort-wise information about what happens to patients diagnosed with multidrug resistant TB (MDR-TB). We determined the pre-treatment loss to follow-up (non-initiation of treatment by programme within 6 months of diagnosis) and time from diagnosis to treatment initiation in Bhopal district, central India (2014). Pre-treatment loss to follow-up was 13% (0.95 CI: 7%, 23%), not significantly different from the national estimates (18%) and median time to initiate treatment was seven days, lower than that reported elsewhere in the country. Bhopal was performing well with reference to time to treatment initiation in programmatic settings.

Background:The family care team(FCT)was established to improve the quality of *** study aimed to explore the perceptions of FCT implementation and describe the challenges inherent in implementing the ***:Forty in-depth interviews were *** interviewees consisted of five pri-mary care managers in the provincial medical health office,five directors of community hospitals,five administrators in district health offices,ten subdistrict health-promoting hospital directors,rep-resentatives from ten local organizations,and five heads of village health *** were col-lected in accordance with semistructured interview guidelines and analyzed by thematic ***:Participants’expressed their opinions through five themes:(1)the role and scope of practice,(2)the communication in collaboration of the FCT,(3)the management of the FCT,(4)the impact of the FCT on the team members’feelings and primary care performance,and(5)the main challenges,including the insufficiency of a teamwork culture and a biomedical ***:The information suggests the importance of issues such as the clarification of the team members’roles and managers’roles,communication within and across FCTs,and the prepara-tion for training of interprofessionals to enhance collaborative management to achieve the optimal care for people in the district health system.

Polymorphism of microsatellite loci of Ukrainian red clover cultivars has been studied. 87 microsatellite alleles, which occurred in different combinations, were identified. The number of alleles ranged from 7 to 10. Microsatellite allele distribution showed that 15 alleles were common for all the red clover cultivars (17.2%). The red clover cultivars were represented by homozygous and heterozygous genotypes. The observed and expected heterozygosity ranged from 0.067 to 0.269 and from 0.225 to 0.807, respectively. An analysis of molecular variance revealed that the largest proportion of variation (68.5%) resided at the intrapopulation level. Differentiation of the Ukrainian cultivars was moderately expressed (FST = 0.07).

The H9N2 subtype avian influenza virus(AIV)inactivated vaccine has been used extensively in poultry farms,but it often fails to stimulate a sufficiently high immune response in poultry in the field,although it works well in laboratory experiments;hence,the virus still causes economic damage every year and poses a potential threat to public *** on surveillance data collected in the field,we found that broilers with high levels of maternal-derived antibodies(MDAs)against H9N2 virus did not produce high levels of antibodies after vaccination with a commercial H9N2 inactivated *** contrast,specific pathogen-free(SPF)chickens without MDAs responded efficiently to that *** MDAs were mimicked by administering passively transferred antibodies(PTAs)into SPF chickens in the laboratory,similar results were observed:H9N2-specific PTAs inhibited humoral immunity against the H9N2 inactivated vaccine,suggesting that H9N2-specific MDAs might hinder the generation of antibodies when H9N2 inactivated vaccine was *** challenge with homologous H9N2 virus,the virus was detected in oropharyngeal swabs of the vaccinated and unvaccinated chickens with PTAs but not in the vaccinated chickens without PTAs,indicating that H9N2-specific MDAs were indeed one of the reasons for H9N2 inactivated vaccine failure in the *** different titers of PTAs were used to mimic MDAs in SPF chickens,high(HI=12 log2)and medium(HI=log 9 log2)titers of PTAs reduced the generation of H9N2-specific antibodies after the first vaccination,but a booster dose would induce a high and faster humoral immune response even of PTA *** study strongly suggested that high or medium titers of MDAs might explain H9N2 inactivated vaccine failure in the field.
