Outcomes after surgical and nonsurgical treatment of pediatric cerebral cavernous malformation

Importance:Pediatric cerebral cavernous malformation(CCM)is a rarely encountered vascular *** study on surgical excision and nonsurgical management outcomes of CCM in pediatrics is ***:To determine the demographic characteristics,hemorrhage rate,and long-term outcomes of pediatric patients with ***:A retrospective study of pediatric patients with CCM in chinese pla General Hospital was conducted between January 2004 and January *** compared the clinical characteristics,radiological features,and outcomes of the surgical and nonsurgical ***:Seventy-nine children were included,with 69.6%being boys,and the average age was 11.8±5.5 *** annual retrospective hemorrhagic rate was 5.7%per patient per ***-six children(70.9%)underwent surgical excision,and they were more likely to present with seizure symptoms(P=0.011),have a higher proportion of larger lesion size(P=0.008),less likely to have durations≤10 days(P=0.048),and less likely to have supratentorial deep CCM(P=0.014)compared to children who received nonsurgical *** resection was achieved in most surgical cases(55,98.2%).During the 143.9±50.8 months of follow-up,44 patients(78.6%)achieved improvement,12 patients(17.8%)remained the same,and two(3.6%)experienced *** the nonsurgical management group,14 children(60.9%)experienced symptom improvement,eight(34.8%)remained the same,and one(4.3%)worsened,with a re-hemorrhagic risk of 8.7%.Interpretation:Surgical removal of pediatric CCM can eliminate the risk of hemorrhage and lead to satisfactory *** children undergoing nonsurgical management,long-term close monitoring is essential due to the life-long risk of hemorrhage.

Identification of novel genes associated with atherosclerosis in Bama miniature pig

Mesenchymal stromal cells modulate unfolded protein response and preserve β-cell mass in type 1 diabetes

Global, regional, and national burden of early-onset gastric cancer

Objective: The burden of gastric cancer(GC) across different age groups needs updating. We determined the GC global, regional, and national burden profiles and changes in incidence for 3 sequential 5-year intervals from 2003 to ***: The latest incidence and mortality estimates of GC from 185 countries and regions were extracted from the GLOBOCAN 2022 database. The 5-year interval age-standardised incidence rates(ASIRs) were evaluated using cancer registry data from volumes X±XII of the cancer Incidence in Five Continents(CI5). Correlation analysis was used to evaluate the relationship between ASIR or the age-standardised mortality rate(ASMR) and the Human Development Index(HDI).Results: There was an estimated global 968,000 new GC cases and 660,000 deaths in 2022, with male predominance. GC ASIRs and ASMRs were 9.2 and 6.1 per 100,000 persons, respectively. East Asia had the highest burden, with 53.8% of cases and 48.2% of deaths among all geographic regions. There was a significant correlation between ASIR and HDI. Over three 5-year intervals from 2003 to 2017, the incidence of GC notably decreased in most countries but peaked at 2008±2012 in New Zealand, Turkey, and South Africa. Several countries in Europe, Oceania, and America suggest an increasingly concerning trend among younger individuals, especially ***: GC is a significant health issue, especially among males and in geographic regions with an HDI, such as eastern Asia. While the incidence of GC is decreasing in many countries due to prevention efforts and improved treatments, a rising trend persists among younger individuals. Comprehensive prevention strategies tailored to different age patterns are clearly needed.

Analysis of metabolic characteristics of metabolic syndrome in elderly patients with gastric cancer by non-targeted metabolomics

SIRT1 inhibits apoptosis of human lens epithelial cells through suppressing endoplasmic reticulum stress in vitro and in vivo

In the realm of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases,the cyclic GMP-AMP synthase(cGAS)stimulator of interferon genes(STING)signaling pathway has been thoroughly investigated and *** this,the clinical approval of drugs targeting the cGAS-STING pathway has been *** Total glucosides of paeony(TGP)is highly anti-inflammatory and is commonly used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis(RA),emerged as a subject of our *** found that the TGP markedly reduced the activation of the cGAS-STING signaling pathway,triggered by various cGAS-STING agonists,in mouse bone marrow-derived macrophages(BMDMs)and Tohoku Hospital Pediatrics-1(THP-1)*** inhibition was noted alongside the suppression of interferon regulatory factor 3(IRF3)phosphorylation and the expression of interferon-beta(IFN-β),C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 10(CXCL10),and inflammatory mediators such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α)and interleukin-6(IL-6).The mechanism of action appeared to involve the TGP’s attenuation of the STING-IRF3 interaction,without affecting STING oligomerization,thereby inhibiting the activation of downstream signaling *** vivo,the TGP hindered the initiation of the cGAS-STING pathway by the STING agonist dimethylxanthenone-4-acetic acid(DMXAA)and exhibited promising therapeutic effects in a model of acute liver injury induced by lipopolysaccharide(LPS)and D-galactosamine(D-GalN).Our findings underscore the potential of the TGP as an effective inhibitor of the cGAS-STING pathway,offering a new treatment avenue for inflammatory and autoimmune diseases mediated by this pathway.

cancer statistics for young adults aged 20 to 49 years in China from 2000 to 2017:a population-based registry study

An increasing cancer incidence among adults younger than 50 years has been reported for several types of cancer in multiple *** aimed to report cancer profiles and trends among young adults in *** from the China cancer Registry Annual Report were used to estimate incidence and mortality among young adults(ages 20–49 years)in China in 2017,and an age-period-cohort model was employed to estimate the average annual percent change(AAPC)in incidence and mortality from 2000 to *** 25 cancer types were grouped into obesity-or overweight-associated cancers(12 cancer types)and additional cancers(13 cancer types).In 2017,there were 681,178new cases and 214,591 cancer deaths among young adults in *** young adults,the most common cancers were thyroid,breast,cervical,liver,lung,and colorectal cancer,and the leading causes of cancer deaths were liver,lung,cervical,stomach,breast,and colorectal *** 2000 to 2017,the cancer incidence increased for all cancers combined among young adults,with the highest AAPC(1.46%)for adults aged 20–24 years,while cancer mortality decreased,with the highest AAPC(-1.63%)for those aged 35–39 *** conclusion,the cancer incidence in China has increased among young adults,while cancer mortality has decreased for nearly all *** control measures,such as obesity control and appropriate screening,may contribute to reducing the increasing cancer burden among young adults.
