In 2021,China’s domestically produced coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)vaccines received approval from regulatory bodies and were administered *** to a low number of infections within China during that period,it became imperative to evaluate the vaccines’real-world effectiveness through international *** facilitate this,China CDC launched the COVID-19 Vaccines Evaluation Program(COVEP).this program formed research collaboration agreements with health institutes across five World Health Organization regions,addressing key questions about vaccine performance through ten cooperative *** findings from COVEP projects reinforced confidence,both domestically and globally,in the effectiveness of the vaccines produced in ***,the outcomes observed internationally were frequently mirrored by later studies conducted within *** thus pioneered a novel approach for fostering cross-national research collaborations,addressing significant public health issues and exemplifying a framework for international *** approach is in line with the strategic objectives and other development efforts of China CDC’s national disease control and prevention initiatives.

Riverine sulfate sources and behaviors in arid environment,Northwest China:Constraints from sulfur and oxygen isotopes

the fate of riverine sulfate ion (sO_(4)^(2-)) and its environmental effects in arid environment are difficult to evaluate due to its complicated sources and strongly coupled behaviors with water cycle which is significantly modified by *** understand the sulfur cycle in aquatic systems in arid environment,the chemical and sulfur and oxygen isotopic compositions (δ^(34)s_(sO4)and δ^(18)O_(sO4)) of major rivers around the Badain Jaran Desert,northwestern China,were *** rivers had averaged sO_(4)^(2-)content at 1336μmol/L,over 10times higher than the global *** δ^(34)s_(sO4)and δ^(18)O_(sO4)values ranged from-5.3‰to+11.8‰and+1.6‰to+12.8‰,*** end-member analysis and the inverse model showed that riverine sulfate was mainly derived from evaporites dissolution (0-87%),sulfide oxidation (13%-100%) and precipitation (0-33%),indicating heterogeneity in sulfur sources and behaviors along the river drainage with the lithology variations and climate *** isotopic tools combining with hydro-chemistry compositions could be applied to reveal sulfur cycle in arid *** on the calculation,sulfide oxidation plays the primary role in the headwater and upstream in the Qilian-Mountains area,where sulfide is widely *** the proportion of evaporites dissolution contributing to riverine sulfate is much higher in downstream in a drier ***,less precipitation and higher temperature can lead to more intensive evaporation,affecting the process of sulfide oxidation and enhancing the rates of evaporites dissolution and sulfate precipitation in the basin.

Modularized viromimetic polymer nanoparticle vaccines(VPNVaxs) to elicit durable and effective humoral immune responses

Virus-like particle(VLP) vaccines had shown great potential during the COVID-19 pandemic, and was thought to be the next generation of antiviral vaccine technology due to viromimetic structures. However,the time-consuming and complicated processes in establishing a current recombinant-protein–based VLP vaccine has limited its quick launch to the out-bursting pandemic. to simplify and optimize VLP vaccine design, we herein report a kind of viromimetic polymer nanoparticle vaccine(VPNVax), with subunit receptor-binding domain(RBD) proteins conjugated to the surface of polyethylene glycol-b-polylactic acid(PEG-b-PLA) nanoparticles for vaccination against sARs-CoV-2. the preparation of VPNVax based on synthetic polymer particle and chemical post-conjugation makes it possible to rapidly replace the antigens and construct matched vaccines at the emergence of different viruses. Using this modular preparation system, we identified that VPNVax with surface protein coverage of 20%–25% had the best immunostimulatory activity, which could keep high levels of specific antibody titers over 5 months and induce virus neutralizing activity when combined with an aluminum adjuvant. Moreover, the polymer nano-vectors could be armed with more immune-adjuvant functions by loading immunostimulant agents or chemical chirality design. this VPNVax platform provides a novel kind of rapidly producing and efficient vaccine against different variants of sARs-CoV-2 as well as other viral pandemics.

Geometry and 3D seismic characterisation of post-rift normal faults in the Pearl River Mouth Basin,northern south China sea

Based on high-resolution 3D seismic data acquired in the Pearl(Zhujiang)River Mouth Basin of the northern south China sea,this study investigated the geometry,spatial extension,and throw distribution of the post-rift normal fault through detailed seismic interpretation and fault modeling.A total of 289 post-rift normal faults were identified in the study area and can be classified into four types:(1)isolated normal faults above the carbonate platform;(2)isolated normal faults cutting through the carbonate platform;(3)conjugate normal faults,and(4)connecting normal *** distribution analysis on the fault planes show that the vertical throw profiles of most normal fault exhibit flat-topped *** normal faults above the carbonate platform exhibit roughly concentric ellipses with maximum throw zones in the central section whereas the normal faults cutting through the carbonate platform miss the lowermost section due to the chaotic seismic reflections in the interior of the carbonate *** vertical throws of conjugate normal faults anomalously decrease toward their intersection region on the fault plane whereas the connecting normal faults present two maximum throw zones in the central section of the fault *** to the symmetric elliptical distribution model of fault throw,an estimation was made indicating that normal faults cutting through the carbonate platform extended downward between-1308 s and-1780 s(two-way travel time)in depth and may not penetrate the entire Liuhua carbonate ***,it is observed that the distribution of karst caves on the top of the carbonate platform disaccord with those of hydrocarbon reservoirs and the post-rift normal faults cutting through the carbonate platform in the study *** propose that these karst caves formed most probably by corrosive fluids derived from magmatic activities during the Dongsha event,rather than pore waters or hydrocarbons.

Dear Editor,Genome-wide association studies(GWAss)have reported a genetic association between certain populations and the severity of *** severe patients,changes in the locus 3p21.31(including sLC6A20,LZtFL1,CCR9,FYCO1,CXCR6,and XCR1)are associated with COVID-19 hospitalization(Ellinghaus et al.,2020).Moreover,variations in 9p34.2 region(including genes related to the ABO blood grouping)can affect both susceptibility and severity of COVID-19;in particular,individuals with blood group A may have an increased risk of COVID-19 infection,while those with blood group O may have a protective effect(Ellinghaus et al.,2020;shelton et al.,2021).

Emerging research suggests a potential association of progression of Alzheimer's disease(AD)with alterations in synaptic currents and mitochondrial ***,the specific associations between these pathological changes remain *** this study,we utilized Aβ42-induced AD rats and primary neural cells as in vivo and in vitro *** investigations included behavioural tests,brain magnetic resonance imaging(MRI),liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry(UPLC-Ms/Ms)analysis,Nissl staining,thioflavin-s staining,enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay,Golgi-Cox staining,transmission electron microscopy(tEM),immunofluorescence staining,proteomics,adenosine triphosphate(AtP)detection,mitochondrial membrane potential(MMP)and reactive oxygen species(ROs)assessment,mitochondrial morphology analysis,electrophysiological studies,Western blotting,and molecular *** results revealed changes in synaptic currents,mitophagy,and mitochondrial dynamics in the AD ***,intervention with Dengzhan shengmai(DZsM)capsules emerged as a pivotal element in this investigation.Aβ42-induced synaptic dysfunction was significantly mitigated by DZsM intervention,which notably amplified the frequency and amplitude of synaptic *** cognitive impairment observed in AD rats was ameliorated and accompanied by robust protection against structural damage in key brain regions,including the hippocampal CA3,primary cingular cortex,prelimbic system,and dysgranular insular *** intervention led to increased IDE levels,augmented long-term potential(LtP)amplitude,and enhanced dendritic spine density and ***,DZsM intervention led to favourable changes in mitochondrial parameters,including ROs expression,MMP and AtP contents,and mitochondrial *** conclusion,our findings delved into the realm of altered synaptic currents,mitophagy,and mitochondrial dynamics in AD,concurrently highlighting the therapeutic potential of DZsM intervention.
