Objective:To investigate the mental health states of the general public during the COVID-19 epidemic in ***:This cross-sectional,survey-based study collected responses from 2435 subjects from February 23,2020 to March 1,2020,in *** degree of symptoms of insomnia,stress and social function was assessed by the Self-Report Questionnaire-20(SRQ-20),the Athens Insomnia Scale(AIS),the chinese version of the Perceived Stress Scale(CPSS),*** Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test,Spearman’s correlation analysis and multivariate logistic regression analysis were employed to assess factors associated with mental ***:Of all participants,784 were males(32.2%) and 1651 were females(67.8%).The perceived stress(CPSS score) is higher in the male(mean(SD)=27.26(10.09)) than the female(mean(SD)=27.03(8.03)).People under 20 years had the lowest AIS scores(mean(SD)=2.85(3.31)) and CPSS scores(mean(SD)=26.47(9.48)).Those above60 years old presented the highest score on AIS scores(mean(SD)=4.02(4.80)) and CPSS scores(mean(SD)=30.09(10.8)).The divorced group presented the highest score on AIS scores(mean(SD)=3.57(4.51)) and CPSS scores(mean(SD)=27.62(8.93)).The farmer reported the highest score on AIS scores(mean(SD)=6.56(7.99)) and the civil servants had the highest score on CPSS scores(mean(SD)=30.59(8.54)).Illiterate people had the highest AIS scores(mean(SD)=10.67(12.22)) and CPSS scores(mean(SD)=31.00(28.48)).Hubei province presented the highest AIS scores(mean(SD)=4.63(8.05)) and CPSS scores(mean(SD)=32.63(12.27)).Spearman’ s correlation analysis showed that there were significant correlations between SRQ-20,AIS and CPSS scales with age,marital status and geographical location.A binary logistic regression analysis showed the risk of insomnia in the general population were independently associated with four variables:age,occupation,marital status and geographical location(p<0.01 or 0.05).The risk of stress in the general popula

Translating amniotic fluid-derived stem cells for transplantation in stroke

This article discusses possible applications of cells derived from human amniotic fluid in regenerative medicine, specifically in stroke therapy. Recent studies have evaluated amniotic fluid as a viable source for mesenchymal stem cells in the expansion of cell-based transplantation. Laboratory data have demonstrated the ability of amniotic fluid stem cells (AFSC) to act as biobridges or subdural patch-like networks when treating traumatic brain injury (TBI). Also AFSCs have been shown to differentiate along the neuronal lineage following transplantation in animal models of brain disorders. In addition to the cells’ many clinical applications, AFSCs can be harvested without raising any ethical concern. This paper evaluates the characteristics of AFSCs, along with the functional benefits of using the cells in animal stroke models, reinforcing the potential advantages of deriving stem cells from amniotic fluid, for stroke treatment.

Recent progress on magnetic-field studies on quantum-spin-liquid candidates

Quantum spin liquids（QSLs） represent a novel state of matter in which quantum fluctuations prevent the conventional magnetic order from being established, and the spins remain disordered even at zero temperature. There have been many theoretical developments proposing various QSL states. On the other hand, experimental movement was relatively slow largely due to limitations on the candidate materials and difficulties in the measurements. In recent years, the experimental progress has been accelerated. In this topical review, we give a brief summary of experiments on the QSL candidates under magnetic fields. We arrange our discussions by two categories： i） Geometrically-frustrated systems, including triangularlattice compounds YbMgGaO4 and YbZnGaO4, κ-（BEDT-TTF）2 Cu2（CN）3, and EtMe3 Sb[Pd（dmit）2]2, and the kagom′e system ZnCu3（OH）6 Cl2; ii） the Kitaev material α-RuCl3. Among these, we will pay special attention to α-RuCl3, which has been intensively studied by ours and other groups recently. We will present evidence that both supports and rejects the QSL ground state for these materials, based on which we give several perspectives to stimulate further research activities.

New understanding on the pathogenesis of acute arterial thrombosis

Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is a typical arterial thrombotic event. Acute arterial thrombosis is a common disease with high morbidity worldwide. The sites at which the thrombus forms tend to be abnormal and patients with arterial thrombosis tend to be younger.[1] Thus, arterial thrombosis has been a social burden and the consequent high morbidity and disability have been a worldwide health problem.[2] The typical pathology of acute arterial thrombosis is the rupture of soft plaque cap in the arterial endarterium, aggregation of platelets at the site of rupture and subsequent thrombosis.[3] Acute rupture of soft plaque cap has been regarded as an initiator of arterial thrombosis.[4] Some investigators speculate that soft plaques are landmines, while what events may trigger the landmine and when the landmine would be triggered are still unclear.[5] The pathogenesis is generally ascribed to the damage of vascular endothelial cells, change in blood flow and increase in the blood coagulability.[6] The rupture of unstable atherosclerotic plaques and the subsequent adhesion and aggregation of platelets at the sites of rupture may trigger the thrombosis. evidence-based medicine shows atherosclerosis is closely related to multiple risk factors such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, hyperglycemia, obesity and smoking. However, the clinical phenomenon that acute arterial thrombosis also occurs in population which are not exposed to these risk factors is difficult to explain. Thus, there might be mechanisms other than the above mentioned factors involved in the pathogenesis of arterial thrombosis.

Comment on“A neuroanatomical basis for electroacupuncture to drive the vagal-adrenal axis”

A breakthrough article by Ma et al.(2021),published in Nature,revealed the neuroanatomical mechanism of the systemic anti-inflammatory effect mediated by the“vagal-adrenal axis”induced by electroacupuncture[1].based on previous research,they demonstrated that prokineticin receptor 2(PROKR2)Cre-marked sensory neurons in the dorsal root ganglia are indispensable for the activation of the vagal-adrenal anti-inflammatory pathway induced by low-intensity electroacupuncture stimulation(ES)at Zusanli(ST36)or Shousanli(LI10)acupoints[2].They found that peripheral fibers of PROKR2Cre-marked neurons were abundantly distributed in the deep fascia of the ST36 and LI10 regions but sparsely in the superficial tissue of the corresponding sites,as well as other acupoints such as Chengjin(BL56)and the abdominal Tianshu(ST25).This differential distribution of PROKR2Cre nerve fibers provides tangible neuroanatomical evidence for the relative specificity of the local tissue structure at different acupoints,thereby facilitating the prediction of anti-inflammatory effects induced by low-intensity ES at different *** crucial research finding allows us to explore its impact on the development of traditional chinese medicine(TCM)as a whole instead of being limited to the acupuncture field.

Risk calculators for hepatocellular carcinoma in patients affected with chronic hepatitis B in Asia
