Open data initiatives have promoted governmental agencies and scientific organizations to publish data online for *** of geoscience focuses on processing georeferenced quantitative data(e.g.,rock parameters,geochemical tests,geophysical surveys and satellite imagery)for discovering new *** knowledge is the cognitive result of human knowledge of the spatial distribution,evolution and interaction patterns of geological objects or *** graphs(KGs)can formalize unstructured knowledge into structured form and have been used in supporting decision-making *** this paper,we propose a novel framework that can extract the geological knowledge graph(GKG)from public reports relating to a modelling *** on the analysis of basic questions answered by geology,we summarize and abstract geological knowledge elements and then explore a geological knowledge representation model with three levels of“geological conceptsgeological entities-geological relations”to describe semantic units of geological knowledge and their logic ***,based on the characteristics of mineral resource reports,the geological knowledge representation model oriented to“object relationships”and the hierarchical geological knowledge representation model oriented to“process relationships”are proposed with reference to the commonly used geological knowledge graph *** research in this paper can provide some implications for the formalization and structured representation of geological knowledge graphs.

Sea ice concentration over the Antarctic Ocean from satellite pulse altimetry

Sea ice concentration (SIC) is an important parameter in characterizing sea ice. Limited by the environment and the spatial extent of observation, it is difficult for field work to meet the needs of a large-scale SIC study. However, with its many advantages, such as the ability to make large-scale, high-resolution and long-duration observations, the altimeter can be used to determine SIC on a large scale. Using the correspondence between the satellite pulse altimeter waveform and reflector property, waveform classification is employed. Moreover, this paper develops an algorithm to obtain the SIC from altimeter waveforms. In an actual computation, Pyrz Bay in the Antarctic is taken as an experimental region, and one-year and seasonal SICs are derived from ERS-1/GM waveforms over this study area. Furthermore, altimetric SICs are compared with those of SSMR SSM/I. The results show that the spatial distribution and the regions of maximum SIC determined employing these two methods are consistent. This demonstrates that altimeter data can be used to monitor sea ice.

Background:The Oriental Stork(Ciconia boyciana)breeds in southeastern Siberia and parts of northeast china,and winters mainly in southeast *** the autumn migration pattern of Oriental Storks has been previ-ously described,differences between spring and autumn migration travel speed in relation to wind assistance were ***:Using GPS/GSM transmitters,we tracked the full migrations of 18 Oriental Storks during 2015-2018 to compare differences in autumn and spring migration patterns,and combined the satellite telemetry data with the National center for Environmental Prediction Reanalysis data to explain the relationship between 850 mbar wind vec-tors and seasonal differences in travel ***:Differences in tailwinds contributed to significant differences in daily average Oriental Storks travel speed in spring(258.11±64.8 km/day)compared to autumn(172.23±49.7 km/day,pcenter of Environmental Prediction Reanalysis data archive)significantly affected daily flying speed dur-ing spring and autumn *** conditions in spring(mean 4.40±5.6 m/s)were always more favourable than in autumn when they received no net benefit(0.48±5.6 m/s,p<0.001).Despite mean spring migration dura-tion being less than autumn(27.52±15.9 versus 32.77±13.4 days,p=0.17),large individual variation meant that this duration did not differ significantly from each ***:For long distance migratory soaring birds(such as storks),relative duration of spring and autumn migration likely relates to the interaction between imperative for earliest arrival to breeding grounds and seasonal meteorological conditions experienced en route.

Survey of reefs based on Landsat 8 operational land imager(OLI)images in the Nansha Islands, South china Sea

A detailed survey of the reefs in the Nansha Islands＇ sea that are of strategic importance is conducive to their future development. In this study, a total of 50 Landsat 8 operational land imager（OLI） images were used to analyze the geological features and spectral characteristics of the Nansha reefs. The exposed islands/sandbanks,reef flats and sub-tidal reefs were identified with the near-infrared band, the red and green bands, and the blue band, respectively. Based on the relationships among various characteristics and bands illustrated in the OLI images, the maximum between-cluster variance threshold algorithm（OTSU method） and the mathematical morphology were employed to extract characteristic parameters of the spatial geometry of the reefs from top to bottom, which were subsequently operated by a series of post-processing methods such as vectorization,simplification and topological analysis. Among the 132 standalone reefs and 16 atolls that are identified in the study, four reefs have yet to be named in the Standard Names of Various Islands in the South china Sea and the website Nansha Islands Online（http：//***/）. Another 24 ones are exposed to the atmosphere even during high tides. Taiping Island with an area of 0.57 km^2 represents the largest exposed geological feature. This study demonstrated the applicability of medium-resolution satellite images to derive the coral reef information effectively and thus provided information for the related departments that are responsible to manage the *** improved resolution of multispectral bands with the panchromatic band in higher spatial resolution（15 m for OLI image） is expected to provide an optimum satellite based approach to map marine habitats.

Identifying the spatiotemporal characteristics of individual red bed landslides: a case study in Western Yunnan, china

Strata in red bed areas have typical characteristics of soft-hard interbedding and high sensitivity to water. Under the comprehensive action of internal stratigraphic structure and external hydrological factors, red bed landslides have highly complex spatiotemporal characteristics, presenting significant challenges to the prevention and control of landslide disasters in red bed areas, especially for slope and tunnel engineering projects. In this study, we applied an interdisciplinary approach combining small baseline subset interferometric synthetic aperture radar(SBAS-InSAR), deep displacement monitoring, and engineering geological surveying to identify the deformation mechanisms and spatiotemporal characteristics of the Abi landslide, an individual landslide that occurred in the red bed area of Western Yunnan, china. Surface deformation time series indicated that a basic deformation range developed by March 2020. Based on In SAR results and engineering geological analysis, the landslide surface could be divided into three zones: an upper sliding zone(US), a lower uplifted zone(LU), and a toe zone(Toe). LU was affected by the structure of the sliding bed with variable inclination. Using deep displacement curves combined with the geological profile, a set of sliding surfaces were identified between different lithology. The groundwater level standardization index(GLSI) and deformation normalization index(DNI) showed different quadratic relationships between US and LU. Verification using the Pearson correlation analysis shows that the correlation coefficients between model calculated results and measured data are 0.7933 and 0.7577, respectively, indicating that the DNI-GLSI models are applicable. A fast and short-lived deformation sub stage(ID-Fast) in the initial deformation stage was observed, and ID-Fast was driven by concentrated rainfall.

Rapid industrialization and urbanization along with a growing population are contributing significantly to air pollution in *** of long-term aerosol optical depth(AOD)data from models and reanalysis,can greatly promote understanding of spatiotemporal variations in air pollution in *** do this,AOD(550 nm)values from 2000 to 2014 were obtained from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project(CIMP6),the second version of Modern-Era Retrospective analysis for Research,and Applications(MERRA-2),and the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS;flying on the Terra satellite)combined Dark Target and Deep Blue(DTB)aerosol *** used the TerraMODIS DTB AOD(hereafter MODIS DTB AOD)as a standard to evaluate CMIP6 Ensemble AOD(hereafter CMIP6 AOD)and MERRA-2 reanalysis AOD(hereafter MERRA-2 AOD).Results show better correlations and smaller errors between MERRA-2 and MODIS DTB AOD,than between CMIP6 and MODIS DTB AOD,in most regions of china,at both annual and seasonal ***,significant under-and over-estimations in the MERRA-2 and CMIP6 AOD were also observed relative to MODIS DTB *** long-term(2000-2014)MODIS DTB AOD distributions show the highest AOD over the North china Plain(0.71)followed by Central china(0.69),Yangtse River Delta(0.67),Sichuan Basin(0.64),and Pearl River Delta(0.54)*** lowest AOD values were recorded over the Tibetan Plateau(0.13±0.01)followed by Qinghai(0.19±0.03)and the Gobi Desert(0.21±0.03).Large amounts of sand and dust particles emitted from natural sources(the Taklamakan and Gobi Deserts)may result in higher AOD in spring compared to summer,autumn,and *** were also calculated for 2000-2005,for2006-2010(when china introduced strict air pollution control policies during the 11 th Five Year Plan or FYP),and for 2011-2014(during the 12 th FYP).An increasing trend in MODIS DTB AOD was observed throughout the country during *** uncontrolled industrialization,urbanization,and rapid eco

A satellite clock error correction method in the wide area differential system

Based on the deep analysis of the wide area differential principle on the separation of satellite ephemeris errors and clock errors, the similarities and differences between the absolute separation of satellite ephemeris errors under time synchronization among the differential stations and relative separation of them under no time synchronization among them are analyzed. A one-station correction method of satellite clock errors including the 1st and the 2nd step correction is given under no time synchronization among these secondary stations, and the backward inference algorithm of the second correction of satellite clock errors is proposed. Through simulation analysis, satellite time service accuracy with code phase measurement can reach 5―7 ns, and that with carrier phase smoothing pseudo-range can reach 1―3 ns.

A new Doppler frequency anomaly algorithm for surface current measurement with SAR

Values for Doppler center frequency are calculated from the echo signal at the satellite using the Doppler centroid method and so include the predicted Doppler frequency caused by the relative motion of the satellite and the Earth,which is the main component of Doppler center frequency and must be removed to obtain the Doppler frequency anomaly for ocean current *** this paper,a new Doppler frequency anomaly algorithm was proposed when measuring surface currents with synthetic aperture radar(SAR).The key of the proposed algorithm involved mean filtering method in the range direction and linear fitting in the azimuth direction to remove the radial and the azimuthal component of predicted Doppler frequency from the Doppler center frequency,*** basis is that the theoretical Doppler center frequency model of SAR exhibits an approximately linear characteristic in both the range direction and in the azimuth *** the help of the new algorithm for predicted Doppler frequency removal,the estimation error of Doppler frequency anomaly can be reduced by avoiding employing the theoretical antenna pattern and imperfect satellite attitude parameters in the conventional Doppler frequency *** measurement results demonstrated that,compared to the conventional Doppler frequency with/without error correction method,the proposed algorithm allows for a pronounced improvement in the current measuring accuracy in comparison with the global ocean multi-observation(MOB)*** addition,the eff ectiveness and robustness of the proposed Doppler algorithm has been demonstrated by its application in the high velocity current in the Kuroshio region.

Subtropical sea surface salinity maxima in the South Indian Ocean

Subtropical sea surface salinity(SSS)maximum is formed in the subtropical South Indian Ocean(SIO)by excessive evaporation over precipitation and serves as the primary salt source of the *** SSS measurements by Aquarius satellite during September 2011-May 2015 detect three disconnected SSS maximum regions(>35.6)in the eastern(105°E-115°E,38°S-28°S),central(60°E-100°E,35°S-25°S),and western(25°E-40°E,38°S-20°S)parts of the subtropical SIO,*** structure is however not seen in gridded Argo *** of Argo profile data confirms the existence of the eastern maximum patch and also reveals SSS overestimations of Aquarius near the western and eastern *** subjected to large uncertainties,a mixed-layer budget analysis is employed to explain the seasonal cycle of *** eastern and central regions reach the highest salinity in February-March and lowest salinity in August-September,which can be well explained by surface freshwater forcing(SFF)*** is however not controlled by evaporation(E)or precipitation(P).Instead,the large seasonal undulations of mixed layer depth(MLD)is the key *** shallow(deep)MLD in austral summer(winter)amplifies(attenuates)the forcing effect of local positive E-P and causes SSS rising(decreasing).Ocean dynamics also play a ***,activity of mesoscale eddies is a critical factor regulating SSS variability in the eastern and western regions.
