The teleconnection impact of the boreal winter Antarctic Oscillation（AAO） on the Somali Jet（SMJ） intensity in the following spring and summer is examined in this *** variability of the boreal winter AAO is positively related to the SMJ intensity in both spring and *** analyses show that the SST in southern high and middle latitudes seems to serve as a bridge linking these two *** the AAO is in strong positive phase,SST over the Southern Ocean cools in the high latitudes and warms in the middle latitudes,which persists into summer;however,the variability of SST in southern high and middle latitudes is also closely correlated to SMJ intensity.A possible mechanism that links SST variability with the AAO-SMJ relationship is also *** AAO in boreal winter produces an SST anomaly pattern in southern high and middle latitudes through the air-sea *** AAOrelated SST anomaly pattern modulates the local Ferrel cell anomaly in summer,followed by the regional Hadley cell anomaly in *** anomalous vertical motion in tropics then changes the land-sea thermal contrast between the tropical Indian Ocean and the Asian continent through the variability of low cloud cover and downward surface longwave radiation ***,the land-sea thermal contrast anomaly between the tropical Indian Ocean and the Asian continent changes the SMJ *** results from Community Atmosphere Model experiments forced by the SST anomaly in southern high and middle latitudes also confirm this diagnostic physical process to some extent.

Continuum robots with their inherent compliance provide the potential for crossing narrow unstructured workspace and safely grasping various ***,the display gripper increases the size of the robots,and therefore,it tends to get stuck in constrained *** paper proposes a versatile continuum grasping robot(CGR)with a concealable *** CGR can capture large objects with respect to the robot’s scale using the continuum manipulator and can grasp various objects using the end concealable gripper especially in narrow and unstructured *** perform the cooperative operation of the concealable gripper and the continuum manipulator,a global kinematic model based on screw theory and a motion planning approach referred to as“multi-node synergy method”for the CGR are *** simulation and experimental results show that objects of different shapes and sizes can be captured by the same CGR even in complex and narrow ***,in the future,the CGR is expected to serve for satellite capture in harsh space environments such as high vacuum,strong radiation,and extreme temperatures.

A virtual reference satellite differential method for relative correction of satellite ephemeris errors

In order to solve the problems that the novel wide area differential method on the satellite clock and ephemeris relative correction (CERC) in the non-geostationary orbit satellite constellation, a virtual reference satellite (VRS) differential principle using relative correction of satellite ephemeris errors is proposed. It is referred to be as the VRS differential principle, and the elaboration is focused on the construction of pseudo-range errors of VRS. Through qualitative analysis, it can be found that the impact of the satellite’s clock and ephemeris errors on positioning can basically be removed and the users’ positioning errors are near zero. Through simulation analysis of the differential performance, it is verified that the differential method is universal in all kinds of satellite navigation systems with geostationary orbit (GEO) constellation, Medium orbit (MEO) constellation or hybrid orbit constellation, and it has insensitivity to abnormal aspects of a satellite ephemeris and clock. Moreover, the real time positioning accuracy of differential users can be maintained within several decimeters after the pseudo-range measurement noise is effectively weakened or eliminated.

Characteristics of Atmospheric Rivers over the East Asia in Middle Summers from 2001 to 2016

Atmospheric Rivers(ARs) are narrow and elongated water vapor belts in troposphere with meridional transport across the mid-latitudes towards high-latitudes. Compared with ARs occurred over the northeastern Pacific, the western coast of North America and Europe, the ARs over the East Asia have received less attention. In this paper, the characteristics of ARs which affected china in the area 20?–60?N, 95?–165?E in the middle summer season from 2001 to 2016 were investigated by using European center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts(ECMWF) ERA-Interim reanalysis data and Multi-functional Transport satellites-1 R(MTSAT-1 R) infrared data. Totally, 134 ARs occurred during that period, and averagely 8.4 ARs occurred per year. Statistically, 101 ARs were in east-west orientation, and 33 ARs were in north-south orientation, which accounts for about 75% and 25%, respectively. Herein we report the occurrence number, duration time, intensity, length, width, ratio of length to width, and extension orientation of these ARs, which provide the basic information for those who have interest in ARs over the East Asia.

Air pollution characteristics and their relationship with emissions and meteorology in the Yangtze River Delta region during 2014–2016

With rapid economic growth and urbanization, the Yangtze River Delta(YRD) region in china has experienced serious air pollution challenges. In this study, we analyzed the air pollution characteristics and their relationship with emissions and meteorology in the YRD region during 2014–2016. In recent years, the concentrations of all air pollutants, except O3,decreased. Spatially, the PM2.5, PM10, SO2, and CO concentrations were higher in the northern YRD region, and NO2 and O3 were higher in the central YRD region. Based on the number of non-attainment days(i.e., days with air quality index greater than 100), PM2.5 was the largest contributor to air pollution in the YRD region, followed by O3, PM10, and ***, particulate matter pollution has declined gradually, while O3 pollution *** conditions mainly influenced day-to-day variations in pollutant concentrations. PM2.5 concentration was inversely related to wind speed, while O3 concentration was positively correlated with temperature and negatively correlated with relative *** air quality improvement in recent years was mainly attributed to emission *** 2014–2016, PM2.5, PM10, SO2, NOx, CO, NH3, and volatile organic compound(VOC)emissions in the YRD region were reduced by 26.3%, 29.2%, 32.4%, 8.1%, 15.9%, 4.5%, and0.3%, respectively. Regional transport also contributed to the air pollution. During regional haze periods, pollutants from North china and East china aggravated the pollution in the YRD region. Our findings suggest that emission reduction and regional joint prevention and control helped to improve the air quality in the YRD region.

Ambient air pollution has been shown to be associated with the pathogenesis of dementia and mild cognitive impairment(MCI).However,few studies have examined these associations in well-characterized populations with low residential mobility,similar living habits,and a standardized assessment of both air pollution exposure and clinical *** study examined the associations of long-term exposure to particulate matter(PM)air pollution with dementia and MCI,using data from the Chinese Veteran Clinical Research *** cognitive function of elderly veterans from 277 communities in 18 Chinese cities was ***’daily exposures to aerodynamic diameters%2.5 mm(PM2.5)and%10 mm(PM10)during the 3 years prior to the survey were estimated using a satellite-based *** adjusted odds ratios(ORs)and 95%confidence intervals of MCI associated with each 10 mg/m^(3) increase in PM2.5 and PM10 were 1.52(1.39,1.67)and 1.04(1.00,1.08),and those of dementia associated with PM2.5 and PM10 were 1.27(1.11,1.46)and 1.13(1.05,1.21),*** demonstrates that long-term exposure to PM2.5 and PM10 can increase the prevalence of dementia/MCI among veterans in *** ORs were observed for those with%9 years of educational attainment,those who actively attended physical activities,those who never smoked,former drinkers,and those who did not suffer from cerebral *** of ambient air quality,especially decreasing levels of PM2.5,may help to decrease the risk of dementia/*** the statistically significant association between PM and cognitive impairment demonstrated here,future studies should focus on examining the causal effect of PM pollution on dementia and MCI.
