A novel electro-Fenton hybrid system for enhancing the interception of volatile organic compounds in membrane distillation desalination

Membrane distillation(MD)is a promising alternative desalination technology,but the hydrophobic membrane cannot intercept volatile organic compounds(VOCs),resulting in aggravation in the quality of permeate.In term of this,electro-Fenton(EF)was coupled with sweeping gas membrane distillation(SGMD)in a more efficient way to construct an advanced oxidation barrier at the gas-liquid interface,so that the VOCs could be trapped in this layer to guarantee the water quality of the distillate.During the so-called EF-MD process,an interfacial interception barrier containing hydroxyl radical formed on the hydrophobic membrane surface.It contributed to the high phenol rejection of 90.2% with the permeate phenol concentration lower than 1.50 mg/L.Effective interceptions can be achieved in a wide temperature range,even though the permeate flux of phenol was also intensified.The EF-MD system was robust to high salinity and could electrochemically regenerate ferrous ions,which endowed the long-term stability of the system.This novel EF-MD configuration proposed a valuable strategy to intercept VOCs in MD and will broaden the application of MD in hypersaline wastewater treatment.

Information and communication technologies enable the transformation of traditional energy systems into cyber-physical energy systems(CPESs),but such systems have also become popular targets of cyberattacks.Currently,available methods for evaluating the impacts of cyberattacks suffer from limited resilience,efficacy,and practical value.To mitigate their potentially disastrous consequences,this study suggests a two-stage,discrepancy-based optimization approach that considers both preparatory actions and response measures,integrating concepts from social computing.The proposed Kullback-Leibler divergence-based,distributionally robust optimization(KDR)method has a hierarchical,two-stage objective function that incorporates the operating costs of both system infrastructures(e.g.,energy resources,reserve capacity)and real-time response measures(e.g.,load shedding,demand-side management,electric vehicle charging station management).By incorporating social computing principles,the optimization framework can also capture the social behavior and interactions of energy consumers in response to cyberattacks.The preparatory stage entails day-ahead operational decisions,leveraging insights from social computing to model and predict the behaviors of individuals and communities affected by potential cyberattacks.The mitigation stage generates responses designed to contain the consequences of the attack by directing and optimizing energy use from the demand side,taking into account the social context and preferences of energy consumers,to ensure resilient,economically efficient CPES operations.Our method can determine optimal schemes in both stages,accounting for the social dimensions of the problem.An original disaster mitigation model uses an abstract formulation to develop a risk-neutral model that characterizes cyberattacks through KDR,incorporating social computing techniques to enhance the understanding and response to cyber threats.This approach can mitigate the impacts more effectively than several existing methods,even

Effect of austenitizing condition on mechanical properties,microstructure and precipitation behavior of AISI H13 steel

The effects of austenitizing temperature(1223,1303,and 1373 K)and holding time(1-1500 s)on the microstructure,mechanical properties,and precipitation behavior of the H13 hot work die steel were investigated.The results indicate a softening phenomenon when H13 steel is austenitized at 1303 K beyond 900 s and 1373 K beyond 600 s,respectively.For the sample held for 1200 s,the tensile strength is found capable of reaching up to 2.2 GPa when quenched from a temperature above 1303 K.Meanwhile,prior-austenite grain size increases with the increase in austenitizing temperature.The kinetic behavior of the precipitates(mainly MC-type carbides)in H13 steel could be elaborated through the principles set forth by the Arrhenius and Avrami equations.Finally,the comprehensive strengthening of the H13 steel was discussed in detail.The results show that the activation energy of the transformed fraction of carbides is higher than that of the diffusion process for common alloying elements(Cr,V,Mo,and Ni)found in the austenite.This suggests that it would be difficult for precipitates to dissolve into the matrix when H13 steel is austenitized at high temperatures.With the increasing austenitizing temperature,the precipitation fraction decreases,and the dislocation density increases.The dislocation strengthening is regarded as the dominant strengthening contributed to yield strength in as-quenched H13 steel.

Research on shell-side heat and mass transfer with multi-component in LNG spiral-wound heat exchanger under sloshing conditions

The spiral-wound heat exchanger(SWHE) is the primary low-temperature heat exchanger for large-scale LNG plants due to its high-pressure resistance, compact structure, and high heat exchange efficiency. This paper studied the shell-side heat and mass transfer characteristics of vapor-liquid two-phase mixed refrigerants in an SWHE by combining a multi-component model in FLUENT software with a customized multicomponent mass transfer model. Besides, the mathematical model under the sloshing condition was obtained through mathematical derivation, and the corresponding UDF code was loaded into FLUENT as the momentum source term. The results under the sloshing conditions were compared with the relevant parameters under the steady-state condition. The shell-side heat and mass transfer characteristics of the SWHE were investigated by adjusting the component ratio and other working conditions. It was found that the sloshing conditions enhance the heat transfer performance and sometimes have insignificant effects. The sloshing condition is beneficial to reduce the flow resistance. The comprehensive performance of multi-component refrigerants has been improved and the improvement is more significant under sloshing conditions, considering both the heat transfer and pressure drop.These results will provide theoretical support for the research and design of multi-component heat and mass transfer enhancement of LNG SWHE under ocean sloshing conditions.

Thermodynamic Performance Analysis of E/F/H-Class Gas Turbine Combined Cycle with Exhaust Gas Recirculation and Inlet/Variable Guide Vane Adjustment under Part-Load Conditions

Exhaust gas recirculation control(EGRC),an inlet air heating technology,can be utilized in combination with inlet/variable guide vane control(IGV/VGVC) and fuel flow control(FFC) to regulate the load,thereby effectively improving the part-load(i.e.,off-design) performance of the gas turbine combined cycle(GTCC).In this study,the E-,F-,and H-Class EGR-GTCC design and off-design system models were established and validated to perform a comparative analysis of the part-load performance under the EGR-IGV-FFC and conventional IGV-FFC strategies in the E/F/H-Class GTCC.Results show that EGR-IGV-FFC has considerable potential for the part-load performance enhancement and can show a higher combined cycle efficiency than IGV-FFC in the E-,F-,and H-Class GTCCs.However,the part-load performance improvement in the corresponding GTCC was weakened for the higher class of the gas turbine because of the narrower load range of EGR action and the deterioration of the gas turbine performance.Furthermore,EGR-IGV-FFC was inferior to IGV-FFC in improving the performance at loads below 50% for the H-Class GTCC.The results obtained in this paper could help guide the application of EGR-IGV-FFC to enhance the part-load performance of various classes of GTCC systems.

An underwater vest containing an antioxidant MXene hydrogel for sensitive recognition of fish locomotion

The perception of fish locomotion is important for understanding their adaptive behaviors and ethological characteristics.However,the main strategy used for extracting fish attitudes involves the use of a vision-based monitoring system,which is limited in its range of observation and cannot perform tracking for long times.Here,we report the use of a wearable tagging electronic device,referred to as an underwater vest,to capture the surrounding flow field disturbances triggered by swimming or momentary postural changes.All of these goals were achieved by integrating a pair of pseudocapacitive pressure-sensing units and a flexible circuit board.Notably,additional conditions,such as variable hydraulic pressures and minimal changes in fish posture,require high stability and sensitivity of the sensing units.Thus,hybrid hydrogel electrodes were developed through cross-linking MXene with holey-reduced graphene oxide nanosheets and further modification with 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium dicyanamide ionic liquids,which increased the interfacial capacitance and long-term interfacial activity of the MXene.Consequently,the sensing unit exhibited ultrahigh sensitivity(S_(max)~136,207 kPa^(−1))in an aquatic environment for 60 days and superior high-pressure resolution(10 Pa)within a wide working range of 1 MPa.Ultimately,an underwater vest integrated with such sensing units clearly distinguished and recorded fish locomotion.We believe that the designed device may open avenues in flow field monitoring and ocean current detection and provide new insights into the development of sensitive underwater tagging.

Integration of Multiple Spectral Data via a Logistic Regression Algorithm for Detection of Crop Residue Burned Areas:A Case Study of Songnen Plain,Northeast china

The burning of crop residues in fields is a significant global biomass burning activity which is a key element of the terrestrial carbon cycle,and an important source of atmospheric trace gasses and aerosols.Accurate estimation of cropland burned area is both crucial and challenging,especially for the small and fragmented burned scars in china.Here we developed an automated burned area mapping algorithm that was implemented using Sentinel-2 Multi Spectral Instrument(MSI)data and its effectiveness was tested taking Songnen Plain,Northeast china as a case using satellite image of 2020.We employed a logistic regression method for integrating multiple spectral data into a synthetic indicator,and compared the results with manually interpreted burned area reference maps and the Moderate-Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS)MCD64A1 burned area product.The overall accuracy of the single variable logistic regression was 77.38%to 86.90%and 73.47%to 97.14%for the 52TCQ and 51TYM cases,respectively.In comparison,the accuracy of the burned area map was improved to 87.14%and 98.33%for the 52TCQ and 51TYM cases,respectively by multiple variable logistic regression of Sentind-2 images.The balance of omission error and commission error was also improved.The integration of multiple spectral data combined with a logistic regression method proves to be effective for burned area detection,offering a highly automated process with an automatic threshold determination mechanism.This method exhibits excellent extensibility and flexibility taking the image tile as the operating unit.It is suitable for burned area detection at a regional scale and can also be implemented with other satellite data.

A robust indium-organic framework with open tubular channels for efficient separation of acetylene

Considering the tremendous applications and purification requirement of acetylene(C_(2)H_(2)),seeking appropriate adsorbents with high capacity and selectivity is a vital task and remains an enduring challenge.Herein,we designed and synthesized a robust three-dimensional(3D)indium-organic framework([(Me)_(2)NH_(2)][In(L6)_(0.5)(IPA)_(0.5)]·DMA·2H_(2)O(In-L6-IPA,DMA=dimethylammonium,IPA=isopropyl alcohol))featuring two types of one-dimensional(1D)tubular channels.The activated In-L6-IPA displayed high loading for C_(2)H_(2)(104.4 cm^(3)·g^(-1),the second highest value among all reported indium-based metal-organic frameworks(MOFs))and simultaneously selective adsorption for C_(2)H_(2) over CO_(2),C_(2)H_(6),and ethylene(C_(2)H_(4))at 298 K under 100 kPa.Molecular modelling revealed that the porous wall of In-L6-IPA provides more and stronger multiple interactions for C_(2)H_(2) than CO_(2),C_(2)H_(6),and C_(2)H_(4) containing C–H···π,C–H···O,and O···πinteractions.Breakthrough experiments validated the actual separation ability for various ratios of binary C_(2)H_(2)/C_(2)H_(4) and C_(2)H_(2)/CO_(2) mixtures as well as equimolar ternary C_(2)H_(2)/C_(2)H_(4)/CO_(2) and C_(2)H_(2)/C_(2)H_(4)/C_(2)H_(6) mixtures with excellent reusability.

High power tunable Raman fiber laser at 1.2μm waveband

Development of a high power fiber laser at special waveband,which is difficult to achieve by conventional rare-earth-doped fibers,is a significant challenge.One of the most common methods for achieving lasing at special wavelength is Raman conversion.Phosphorus-doped fiber(PDF),due to the phosphorus-related large frequency shift Raman peak at 40 THz,is a great choice for large frequency shift Raman conversion.Here,by adopting 150 m large mode area triple-clad PDF as Raman gain medium,and a novel wavelength-selective feedback mechanism to suppress the silica-related Raman emission,we build a high power cladding-pumped Raman fiber laser at 1.2μm waveband.A Raman signal with power up to 735.8 W at 1252.7 nm is obtained.To the best of our knowledge,this is the highest output power ever reported for fiber lasers at 1.2μm waveband.Moreover,by tuning the wavelength of the pump source,a tunable Raman output of more than 450 W over a wavelength range of 1240.6–1252.7 nm is demonstrated.This work proves PDF’s advantage in high power large frequency shift Raman conversion with a cladding pump scheme,thus providing a good solution for a high power laser source at special waveband.

Enhancing XRF sensor-based sorting of porphyritic copper ore using particle swarm optimization-support vector machine(PSO-SVM)algorithm

X-ray fluorescence(XRF)sensor-based ore sorting enables efficient beneficiation of heterogeneous ores,while intraparticle heterogeneity can cause significant grade detection errors,leading to misclassifications and hindering widespread technology adoption.Accurate classification models are crucial to determine if actual grade exceeds the sorting threshold using localized XRF signals.Previous studies mainly used linear regression(LR)algorithms including simple linear regression(SLR),multivariable linear regression(MLR),and multivariable linear regression with interaction(MLRI)but often fell short attaining satisfactory results.This study employed the particle swarm optimization support vector machine(PSO-SVM)algorithm for sorting porphyritic copper ore pebble.Lab-scale results showed PSO-SVM out-performed LR and raw data(RD)models and the significant interaction effects among input features was observed.Despite poor input data quality,PSO-SVM demonstrated exceptional capabilities.Lab-scale sorting achieved 93.0%accuracy,0.24%grade increase,84.94%recovery rate,57.02%discard rate,and a remarkable 39.62 yuan/t net smelter return(NSR)increase compared to no sorting.These improvements were achieved by the PSO-SVM model with optimized input combinations and highest data quality(T=10,T is XRF testing times).The unsuitability of LR methods for XRF sensor-based sorting of investigated sample is illustrated.Input element selection and mineral association analysis elucidate element importance and influence mechanisms.
