Determining homogeneous domains statistically is helpful for engineering geological modeling and rock mass stability *** this text,a technique that can integrate lithology,geotechnical and structural information is proposed to delineate homogeneous *** technique is then applied to a high and steep slope along a ***,geological and geotechnical domains were described based on lithology,faults,and shear ***,topological manifolds were used to eliminate the incompatibility between orientations and other parameters(*** length and roughness)so that the data concerning various properties of each discontinuity can be matched and characterized in the same Euclidean ***,the influence of implicit combined effect in between parameter sequences on the homogeneous domains could be *** learning technique was employed to quantify abstract features of the characterization images of discontinuity properties,and to assess the similarity of rock mass *** results show that the technique can effectively distinguish structural variations and outperform conventional *** can handle multisource engineering geological information and multiple discontinuity *** technique can also minimize the interference of human factors and delineate homogeneous domains based on orientations or multi-parameter with arbitrary distributions to satisfy different engineering requirements.

Rock slope with horizontal-layered fractured structure(HLFS)has high stability in its natural ***,a strong earthquake can induce rock fissure expansion,ultimately leading to slope *** this study,the dynamic response,failure mode,and spectral characteristics of rock slope with HLFS under strong earthquake conditions were investigated based on the large-scale shaking table model *** this basis,multiple sets of numerical calculation models were further established by UDEC discrete element *** influencing factors were considered in the parametric study of numerical simulations,including slope height,slope angle,bedding-plane spacing and secondary joint spacing as well as bedrock dip *** results showed that the failure process of rock slope with HLFS under earthquake action is mainly divided into four phases,i.e.,the tensile crack of the slope shoulder joints and shear dislocation at the top bedding plane,the extension of vertical joint cracks and increase of shear displacement,the formation of step-through sliding surfaces and the instability,and finally collapse of fractured rock *** acceleration response of slopes exhibits elevation amplification effect and surface *** simulations indicate that the seismic stability of slopes with HLFS exhibits a negative correlation with slope height and angle,but a positive correlation with bedding-plane spacing,joint spacing,and bedrock dip *** results of this study can provide a reference for seismic stability evaluation of weathered rock slopes.

Initiation and Kinematic Process of Debris Flow with the Existence of Terraced Fields at the Sources

A debris flow, with terraced fields as the source area, broke out on June 25th, 2018 in the Xiaotuga area of Yunnan Province, china, and this kind of debris flow is rarely recorded. Two purposes in this study:(1) the influence of flow drag force on slope stability;(2) back-analyze the movement process of debris flow. first, the geological background and movement of this debris flow were described based on a field investigation. Then, drag force, calculated by the laminar flow theory, is added to the slope stability calculation model, which elaborates the initiation process of this disaster. Moreover, dynamic simulation software(DAN3D) was used to simulate the kinematic process of the debris flow with a variety of combination models. The study shows that the terrace area can quickly produce surface runoff and create a drag force under rainfall conditions, which is the essential reason for the initiation of debris flow. In addition, the use of the FVV(Frictional-Voellmy-Voellmy) model is found to provide the best performance in simulating this type of debris flow, which reveals that it lasts approximately 200 s and that the maximum velocity is 12 m/s.

The stick-slip action of strike-slip faults poses a significant threat to the safety and stability of underground *** this study,the north-east area of the Longmenshan fault,Sichuan,provides the geological background;the rheological characteristics of the crustal lithosphere and the nonlinear interactions between plates are described by Burger’s viscoelastic constitutive model and the friction constitutive model,respectively.A large-scale global numerical model for plate squeezing analysis is established,and the seemingly periodic stick-slip action of faults at different crust depths is *** a second model at a smaller scale,a local finite element model(sub-model),the time history of displacement at a ground level location on the Longmenshan fault plane in a stick-slip action is considered as the displacement *** integration of these models,creating a multi-scale modeling method,is used to evaluate the crack propagation and mechanical response of a tunnel subjected to strike-slip *** determinations of the recurrence interval of stick-slip action and the cracking characteristics of the tunnel are in substantial agreement with the previous field investigation and experimental results,validating the multi-scale modeling *** can be concluded that,regardless of stratum stiffness,initial cracks first occur at the inverted arch of the tunnel in the footwall,on the squeezed side under strike-slip *** smaller the stratum stiffness is,the smaller the included angle between the crack expansion and longitudinal direction of the tunnel,and the more extensive the crack expansion *** the tunnel in a high stiffness stratum,both shear and bending failures occur on the lining under strike-slip faulting,while for that in the low stiffness stratum,only bending failure occurs on the lining.

Damaged structures on coral islands have been spalling and cracking due to the dual corrosion of tides and *** ensure easy access to aggregate materials,magnesium potassium phosphate cement(MKPC)and coral sand(CS)are mixed to repair damaged structures on coral ***,CS is significantly different from land-sourced sand in mineral composition,particle morphology,and *** has a substantial impact on the hydration characteristics and macroscopic properties of MKPC ***,in this study we investigated the compressive strength,interfacial mechanical properties,and corrosion resistance of MKPC CS *** in the morphology,microstructure,and relative contents of hydration products were revealed by scanning electron microscope-energy dispersive spectrometer(SEM-EDS)and X-ray diffraction(XRD).The results indicated that the compressive strength increased linearly with the interfacial micro-hardness,and then stabilized after long-term immersion in pure water and Na2SO4 solution,showing excellent corrosion *** with MKPC river sand(RS)mortar,the hydration products of CS mortar were an intermediate product 6KPO2·8H2O with a relative content of 3.9%at 1 h and 4.1%at 12 *** hydration product MgKPO_(4)·6H_(2)O increased rapidly after 7-d curing,with an increased growth rate of 1100%.Our results showed that CS promoted the nucleation and formation of hydration products of MKPC,resulting in better crystallinity,tighter overlapping,and a denser interfacial transition *** results of this study provide technical support for applying MKPC mortar as a rapid repair material for damaged structures on coral islands.

The deformation monitoring of long-span railway bridges is significant to ensure the safety of human life and *** interferometric synthetic aperture radar(In SAR)technology has the advantage of high accuracy in bridge deformation *** study monitored the deformation of the Ganjiang Super Bridge based on the small baseline subsets(SBAS)In SAR technology and Sentinel-1A *** analyzed the deformation results combined with bridge structure,temperature,and riverbed sediment *** results are as follows:(1)The Ganjiang Super Bridge area is stable overall,with deformation rates ranging from-15.6 mm/yr to 10.7 mm/yr(2)The settlement of the Ganjiang Super Bridge deck gradually increases from the bridge tower toward the main span,which conforms to the typical deformation pattern of a cable-stayed bridge.(3)The sediment scouring from the riverbed cause the serious settlement on the bridge’s east side compared with that on the west side.(4)The bridge deformation negatively correlates with temperature,with a faster settlement at a higher temperature and a slow rebound trend at a lower *** study findings can provide scientific data support for the health monitoring of long-span railway bridges.

Local failure mechanism of sand-blocking fence in latticed dune along desert roads

The latticed dunes in the Tengger Desert are widely distributed,and the sand-blocking fence placed here are highly susceptible to local failure due to complex wind-sand activities,posing a serious threat to the safe operation of the *** explore the local failure mechanism of sand-blocking fence in the latticed dune area,the local failure of sand-blocking fence in the latticed dune areas along the Wuhai-Maqin Highway in china was *** the first main ridge of the latticed dune as the placement location,the structure of the wind-sand flow field of sand-blocking fence placed at top,the bottom and the middle of windward slope was analyzed by Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD).The results show that when placed at top of the first main ridge,the wind speed near the sand-blocking fence is the highest,up to 15.23 m/***,the wind load strength on the sand barrier is correspondingly larger,up to 232.61 N∙*** the strength of material continues to decrease,the nylon net is prone to *** roots of the angle steel posts are susceptible to hollowing by vortex action,which can cause sand-blocking fence to fall over in strong wind *** placed at the bottom of windward slope,wind speed drop near sand-blocking fence is greatest,with the decrease of 12.48-14.32 m/s compared to the original wind *** is highly likely to lead to large-scale deposition of sand particles and burial of the sand-blocking *** placed in the middle of windward slope,sand-blocking fence is subjected to less wind load strength(168.61N∙m-2)and sand particles are mostly deposited at the bottom of windward slope,with only a small amount of sand accumulating at the root of sand-blocking *** on field observations and numerical modelling results,when the sand-blocking fence is placed in latticed dune area,it should be placed in the middle of the windward slope of the first main ridge as a matter of *** the sand-blocking fence should be placed

Evaluation of Compatibilizers for Improving Compatibility between Waste Vegetable Oil and Aged Asphalt

Modifying agents 2,2-Bis(4-glycidyloxyphenyl)propane(2BPE)and dibutyl phthalate(DBP)were selected to enhance the *** using molecular simulation software(Materials Studio,MS),nine systems were constructed,including molecular models of aged asphalt and WVO monomers with 2BPE and/or *** solubility parameters,Flory-Huggins parameters,and interaction energies of these systems were calculated to determine the impact of 2BPE and DBP on the compatibility of WVO and aged *** showed that the addition of 2BPE and DBP reduced the difference in the solubility parameters between WVO and aged asphalt,thus improving the compatibility between WVO and aged ***,using a combination of 2BPE and DBP in both aged asphalt and rejuvenator was found to be more effective than using either 2BPE or DBP ***,it was determined that evaluating the compatibility of WVO and aged asphalt using Van der Waals potential and non-bonding energy as evaluation indicators was more accurate than using electrostatic potential energy.

Understanding the effects of microwave irradiation and thermal treatment on the dynamic compression and fragmentation properties of rocks is essential to quantify energy consumption in rock *** this study,Fangshan granite(FG)specimens were exposed to microwave irradiation and heat *** damage of FG specimens induced by these two methods was compared using X-ray CT scanning and ultrasonic wave *** temperatures of FG after microwave irradiation and thermal treatment were effectively evaluated using a newly proposed technique.A novelty method for precisely determining the geometric features of fragments is developed to estimate the fragmentation ***,the dynamic uniaxial compressive strength(UCS),the dynamic fragmentation characteristics,and the fragmentation energy of FG after these two pretreatment methods can be reasonably *** noticeable distinction of loading rate effect on the dynamic UCS of FG between these two pretreatment methods is first observed.A relationship is established between the dynamic UCS and the damage induced by microwave irradiation and heat ***,fragmentation energy fan analysis is introduced to accurately compare the fragmentation properties of FG after two pretreatment methods in dynamic compression tests.
