A Multiscale Energetic Diagnosis of the Response of Mokpo Sea to Typhoon Bolaven

The ocean response to typhoon is usually characterized by a cooling on the sea surface. In August 2012, however, a warming (instead of cooling) event occurs in the Yellow Sea outside Mokpo, South Korea, as the typhoon Bolaven (2012) passes. This study gives a brief introduction to this abnormal sea surface warming. It also provides a multiscale energetic diagnosis of the oceanic response to Typhoon Bolaven. We used a recently developed analysis tool named “multiscale window transform” (MWT). Based on the MWT, we also expanded a localized multiscale energy and vorticity analysis (MS-EVA). The fields are reconstructed onto three scale windows: large-scale, abnormal warming-scale, and high frequency tide-scale windows. The results show that the kinetic energy (KE) in the abnormal warming-scale window of the Mokpo area is obviously enhanced during the passage of Bolaven, which can be attributed to three processes: transfer, transport process of KE and wind stress work. At the same time, the large-scale window in the Mokpo area experiences barotropic instabilities with KE transfers from large-scale window to warming-scale window. Besides, the strong wind stress bought by the passage of Bolaven not only inputs a large amount of KE into warming-scale window, but also causes the increase of KE flux convergence.

Paper media including the People’s Daily, Guangming Daily, Health news and Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine were the main media that spread the thought and policy of integrative medicine(IM) in the early stage of the integration of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) and Western medicine(WM) in china. Issues including paper media and its roles for spreading IM, from "TCM learning from WM" to "WM learning from TCM", advocating integration of TCM and WM, promoting IM through multiple channels were analyzed in this article, so as to show the propagation process of IM in china and the roles of the paper media. It was shown that strengthening the propaganda of IM through mainstream media, strengthening media convergence and the role of new media are important in spreading the thought of IM.

A CDA Approach to Understanding Chinese Basic Education Reform From Sino-US news Reports

It has been about one decade since china takes effect the basic education reform, and this study chooses 14 news reports about Chinese basic education reform in the recent years from both America and china as the research samples, and analyzes the samples from the perspective of critical discourse analysis （CDA） to show whether there are differences in the two countries＇ news reports. The samples in this study are selected from the official websites of the two countries. Among the American news reports, some reports from New York Times and others from CNN; while among the Chinese reports, some are from china Daily and others are from CCTV. Under the theoretical framework of CDA, this paper is based on Fairclough＇s three-dimensional modes, and chooses Halliday＇s systemic-functional grammar as the analytical tool. It aims to reveal the hidden relationship between news reports language and ideology as well as power through the contrastive analysis. Through the analysis it finds out that the power relations and ideologies tend to exist in news reports on the issue of Chinese basic education reform. The purposes of news reports are not only to provide the latest information to readers, but also to influence the readers ideologies and at last even to control the readers＇ ideologies through reading of the very issue

Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC) released the Working Group Ⅱ contribution to the Fifth Assessment Report(WGII AR5) IPCC Climate Change 2014: Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerability in March 2014. This paper introduces and interprets this report, making well organization of the main conclusions, analyzing the new enlightenment to china’s response to climate change. WGII AR5 focuses on the assessment and management of climate change risks. According to the latest scientific literature and evidences, this report elaborates climate change’s broader impacts on water resource, food production, and other natural and human social systems since2007 IPCC Fourth Assessment Report(AR4). Via the assessment of different areas, regions, and key risks in the future, the report indicates the risk level of climate change faced with the globe under different temperature rise; aiming at risk management, the report emphasizes the significance of promoting and establishing the sustainable development society with recovery capacity through adaptation and mitigation of climate change. As an important scientific basis for international community to recognize and cope with climate change, the publication of IPCC AR5 one after another will have a significant influence on Durban Platform negotiations on post-2020 international climate regime which have been in a difficult stage, and the 2014 United Nations climate change summit [IPCC. 2014.
