Performance of RegCM4 over Major River Basins in china

A long-term simulation for the period 1990–2010 is conducted with the latest version of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics＇ Regional Climate Model（RegCM4）, driven by ERA-Interim boundary conditions at a grid spacing of 25 km. The Community Land Model（CLM） is used to describe land surface processes, with updates in the surface parameters,including the land cover and surface emissivity. The simulation is compared against observations to evaluate the model performance in reproducing the present day climatology and interannual variability over the 10 main river basins in china,with focus on surface air temperature and precipitation. Temperature and precipitation from the ERA-Interim reanalysis are also considered in the model assessment. Results show that the model reproduces the present day climatology over china and its main river basins, with better performances in June–July–August compared to December–January–February（DJF）.In DJF, we find a warm bias at high latitudes, underestimated precipitation in the south, and overestimated precipitation in the north. The model in general captures the observed interannual variability, with greater skill for temperature. We also find an underestimation of heavy precipitation events in eastern china, and an underestimation of consecutive dry days in northern china and the Tibetan Plateau. Similar biases for both mean climatology and extremes are found in the ERA-Interim reanalysis, indicating the difficulties for climate models in simulating extreme monsoon climate events over East Asia.

A SPATIAL-TEMPORAL DISTRIBUTION CHARACTERISTICS STUDY ON THE ATMOSPHERIC CARBON DIOXIDE OBSERVED BY GOSAT SATELLITE REMOTE SENSING

The variation of the atmospheric Carbon Dioxide （CO2） concentration plays an important role in global cli- mate and agriculture. We analyzed the spatial-temporal characteristics of CO2 in the china region and around the globe with the CO2 column mixing ratios observed by the Japanese GOSAT satellite （Greenhouse Gases Observing Satellite）. In order to make sure that the accuracy of the CO2 data retrieved by the satellite meets the needs of the climate charac- teristics analyses, we ran a validation on the CO2 column mixing ratios retrieved by the satellite against the ground-based TCCON （Total Carbon Column Observing Network） observation data. The result shows that the two sets of data have a correlation coefficient of higher than 0.7, and a bias of within 2.2 ppmv. Therefore, the GOSAT CO2 da- ta can be used for the climate characteristics analysis of global CO2. Our analysis on the spatial-temporal characteristics of the CO2 column mixing ratios observed during the period of June 2009 through January 2014 proved that, with the impact of the natural emission of near ground CO2 and human activities, the global CO2 concentration has a significant latitudinal characteristics with its highest level averaging 390 oomv in the 0-40？N latitudinal zone in the Northern Hemisphere, and 387 ppmv in the Southern Hemisphere. china has a relatively higher CO2 concentration with the highest level exceeding 398 ppmv, and the eastern area higher than the western area. The variation of global CO2 concentration shows a seasonal pattern, i.e. the CO2 concen- tration reaches its highest in spring in the Northern Hemisphere averaging more than 392 ppmv, second highest in win- ter, and lowest in summer averaging less than 387 ppmv. It fluctuates the most in the Northern Hemisphere with an av- erage concentration of 392.5 ppmv in April, and 385.5 ppmv in July. A PRELIMINARY STUDY ON THE 3DVAR ASSIMILATION OF THE AMSU-A DATA IN SPACE-TIME MULTISCALE ANALYSIS SYSTEM

Assimilating satellite radiances into Numerical Weather Prediction(NWP) models has become an important approach to increase the accuracy of numerical weather forecasting. In this study, the assimilation technique scheme was employed in NOAA's STMAS(Space-Time Multiscale Analysis System) to assimilate AMSU-A radiances *** selection sensitivity experiments were conducted on assimilated satellite data in the first place. Then, real case analysis of AMSU-A data assimilation was performed. The analysis results showed that, following assimilating of AMSU-A channels 5-11 in STMAS, the objective function quickly converged, and the channel vertical response was consistent with the AMSU-A weighting function distribution, which suggests that the channels can be used in the assimilation of satellite data in STMAS. With the case of the Typhoon Morakot in Taiwan Island in August 2009 as an example, experiments on assimilated and unassimilated AMSU-A radiances data were designed to analyze the impact of the assimilation of satellite data on STMAS. The results demonstrated that assimilation of AMSU-A data provided more accurate prediction of the precipitation region and intensity, and especially, it improved the 0-6h precipitation forecast significantly.

PRELIMINARY STUDY ON THE INFLUENCE OF FY-4 LIGHTNING DATA ASSIMILATION ON PRECIPITATION PREDICTIONS

Data from the lightning mapping imager on board the Fengyun-4 meteorological satellite(FY-4) were used to study the assimilation of lightning data and its influence on precipitation predictions. We first conducted a quality control check on the events observed by the first Fengyun-4 satellite(FY-4 A) lightning mapping imager, after which the noise points were removed from the lightning distribution. The subsequent distribution was more consistent with the spatial distribution and range of ground-based observations and precipitation. We selected the radar reflectivity, which was closely related to the lightning frequency, as the parameter to assimilate the lightning data and utilized a large sample of lightning frequency and radar reflectivity data from the eastern United States provided by Vaisala. Based on statistical analysis, we found the empirical relationship between the lightning frequency and radar reflectivity and established a look-up table between them. We converted the lightning event data into radar reflectivity data and found that the converted reflectivity and composite reflectivity of ground-based radar observations showed high *** further assimilated the lightning data into the model, adjusted the model cloud analysis process and adjusted the model hydrometeor field by using the lightning data. A rainstorm weather process that occurred on August 8, 2017 in south china was used for the numerical forecast experiment, and three experiments were designed for comparison and analysis: a control experiment, an experiment without the assimilation of FY-4 lightning data(NoLig), and an experiment with the assimilation of FY-4 lightning data(Lig). The results show that after assimilating the FY-4 A lightning data, the accuracies of the intensity, central location and range of the precipitation predicted by the Lig experiment were obviously superior to those predicted by the control and NoLig experiments, and the effect was especially obvious in the s

Detwmination of Blood Flow in the Lower Leg of Patients withDiabetes Mellitus and the Effects of Treatment with thePrinciple of Vitalizing Blood and Solubilizing Thrombus

Blood flow in the lower leg was determined in 50 cases of non-insulin dependent diabetesmellitus using an XLJ-2 bipolar rheoencephalometry impedance rheogram. In patients with leg pain (85legsi and diabetic foat (15 legs3, the blood flow of the lower leg was decreased as compared withhealthy legs (P<0. 01￣0. 001) . The group with diabetic foot showed a bigger decrease compared withthe leg pain group (PMO. 051 . Atter treatment with the principle of vitalizing blood and solubilizing throm-bus, 22 cases with leg pain (32 legs) showed a significant increase of blood flow in the lower leg (P<0. 001). The group with diabetic foot failed to show any significant increase, indicating the importance ofearly treatment. This method of determining blood flow in the lower leg will help early discovery of abnor-mal changes of blood supply in the lower leg. Treatment with the principle of vitalizing blood and solubiliz-ing thrombus can help improve the conditions of the patients.

During china’s rapid urbanization, cities are threatened by ever more severe meteorological disasters. Urban meteorological disasters are characterized by massive destruction, high diffusion,and extensive social impact, which further complicate prevention and control. Therefore, nonengineering countermeasures are given a more prominent role in the process. china has primarily established a system of non-engineering countermeasures against urban meteorological ***, this system does have its problems and flaws. The authors propose that disaster prevention should be technology-based and carried out in a scientific manner. A well-rounded disaster prevention institution should be established, and social participation must be *** meteorological monitoring, forecasting, and early warning abilities should be enhanced,prevention and control plans improved, relative legislation and administration completed, and social participation promoted so as to strengthen china’s non-engineering response to meteorological disasters.

Report:How many Chinese journals are included in the newly indexed 700 regional journals on Web of Science?

Based on the current news via Thomson Reuters "700 new regional journals in the world have been added to Web of Science since 2007",we conducted an investigation to find out that 43(6.1%) Chinese journals(including 6 journals from Hong Kong region) are included. The results also show that up to now a total of about 153 Chinese journals(114 from china Mainland,11 from Hong Kong and 28 from Taiwan) have been included by SCI and SSCI & AHCI.

Against the background of the current world facing an energy crisis,and human beings puzzled by the problems of environment and resources,developing clean energy sources becomes the inevitable choice to deal with a climate change and an energy shortage.A global ocean wave energy resource was reanalyzed by using ERA-40 wave reanalysis data 1957–2002 from European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts（ECMWF）.An effective significant wave height is defined in the development of wave energy resources（short as effective SWH）,and the total potential of wave energy is exploratively *** considering a wave energy density,a wave energy level probability,the frequency of the effective SWH,the stability and long-term trend of wave energy density,a swell index and a wave energy storage,global ocean wave energy resources were reanalyzed and regionalized,providing reference to the development of wave energy resources such as wave power plant location,seawater desalination,heating,pumping.
