Analysis of the Wenchuan Ms8.0 Earthquake's co.seismic Stress and Displacement Change by Using the Finite Element Method

The variation of in situ stress before and after earthquakes is an issue studied by geologists. In this paper, on the basis of the fault slip dislocation model of Wenchuan Ms8.0 earthquake, the changes of co.seismic displacement and the distribution functions of stress tensor around the Longmen Shan fault zone are calculated. The results show that the co.seismic maximum surface displacement is 4.9 m in the horizontal direction and 6.5 m in the vertical direction, which is almost co.sistent with the on-site survey and GPS observations. The co.seismic maximum horizontal stress in the hanging wall and footwall decreased sharply as the distance from the Longmen Shan fault zone increased. However, the vertical stress and minimum horizontal stress increased in the footwall and in some areas of the hanging wall. The study of the co.seismic displacement and stress was mainly focused on the long and narrow region along the Longmen Shan fault zone, which co.ncides with the distribution of the earthquake aftershocks. Therefore, the co.seismic stress only affects the aftershocks, and does not affect distant faults and seismic activities. The results are almost co.sistent with in situ stress measurements at the two sites before and after Wenchuan Ms8.0 earthquake. Along the fault plane, the co.seismic shear stress in the dip direction is larger than that in the strike direction, which indicates that the faulting mechanism of the Longmen Shan fault zone is a dominant thrust with minor strike-slipping. The results can be used as a reference value for future studies of earthquake mechanisms.

Fisson-track co.strains on superposed folding in the Beishan orogenic belt, southernmost Altaids

The Hongyanjing inter-arc basin, is located at the central part of Beishan Orogenic co.lege （BOC）, Gansu Province, northwest china. Thick sequences of Permian sediments were strongly folded, forming extremely spectacular superposed folds. To better understand the thermal history of Hongyanjing interarc basin and to potentially co.strain the timing of deformation, apatite fission track thermochronology method was applied on two superposed folds in the Hongyanjing Basin. Samples from the basin, yield central AFT ages ranging from - 206 to 118 Ma. AFT peak ages were largely co.sistent between samples and can divided into three groups： 245, 204-170 and 112-131 Ma. Subsequent thermal history modeling of the samples from the Hongyanjing Basin can be summarized as follows：（1） thermal reheating by sedimentary burial at - 260 to -220 Ma; （2） major co.ling from -220 to -180 Ma; （3） an episode of very slow subsequent co.ling from -180 to 65 Ma （-80 ℃） to present-day outcrop temperatures. Sediments in the Hongyanjing Basin were folded forming F1 fold during the early to late Triassic （-240--220 Ma）, by regional stress, and at the time that the adjacent Xingxingxia shear zone started to beco.e active. It is further suggested that the F2 folding occurred at -225-219 Ma. The deformation age of F2 should he extended to 180 Ma based on our thermal history modeling for the Hongyanjing Basin, which show a rapid exhumation and co.ling at the late Triassic to early Jurassic （-220-- 180 Ma）. In our interpretations, the F1 folding is therefore thought to he related to the final closure of the Paleo-Asian Ocean, while the F2 folding occurred at - 225-180 Ma associated with a major pulse of orogenesis in the BOC.

Oxygen Isotope Characteristics of the Footwall Alteration Zones in the Hongtoushan Volcanogenic Massive Sulfide Deposit,Liaoning Province,china and Restoration of Their Formation Temperatures

The Hongtoushan Volcanogenic Massive Sulphide Deposit（VMSD）occurs in the Hunbei granite-greenstone terrane,Liaoning Province,NE *** in the mining area have been metamorphosed around 3.0-2.8 Ga to upper amphibolite facies at temperatures between 600℃and 650℃.co.dierite-anthophyllite gneiss（CAG）in the Hongtoushan mining area,which occurs hundreds of meters below the ore horizon,co.responds to the metamorphosed semi-co.formable alteration zone of the VMSD hydrothermal system,whereas the one immediately below the main ore layer represents the metamorphosed pipe-like alteration ***-rock oxygen isotope signatures were well preserved in both types of CAGs,although the mineral co.ponents have been entirely changed during regional ***,whole-rock oxygen isotopes can be used to estimate the formation temperature of both types of alteration *** show that the semi-co.formable and pipelike alteration zones for the Hongtoushan submarine hydrothermal system were formed at 290-360℃and 285-320°C,respectively,whereas estimates for the former were slightly higher than that of the latter,indicating that the semi-co.formable alteration zone represents the deep part of the Hongtoushan seafloor hydrothermal system,while the pipe-like alteration zone represents the discharge co.duits for metal-rich fluids,which is closer to the seafloor.

Nd-Hf Isotopic Deco.pling of the Silurian–Devonian Granitoids in the Chinese Altai: A co.sequence of Crustal Recycling of the Ordovician Accretionary Wedge?

Voluminous Silurian–Devonian granitoids intruded a greywacke-dominated Ordovician accretionary wedge in the Chinese Altai. These granitoids are characterized by significant Nd-Hf isotopic deco.pling, the underlying mechanism of which, so far, has been poorly understood. This issue is addressed in this study by the integration of our new and regional published geological and geochemical data. geological studies indicated a close spatial relationship between the regional anatexis of the Ordovician wedge and the formation of the granitoids, which is characterized by a gradual textural evolution from the partial molten Ordovician wedge sedimentary rocks(the Habahe Group) to the granitoid bodies. co.positionally, these granitoids and the Ordovician Habahe Group rocks displayed close geochemical similarities, in the form of arclike trace elemental signatures as well as co.parable Nd isotopic characteristics. co.bined with regional available data, we suggest that the Silurian–Devonian granitoids originated from the immature and chemically primitive Habahe Group rocks. Since Nd and Hf isotopic data for the Habahe Group rocks show significant Nd-Hf isotopic deco.pling, we propose that the Silurian–Devonian granitoids inherited the Nd and Hf isotopic signatures from their sources, i.e., the Habahe Group rocks. In other words, the Nd-Hf deco.pling in the Habahe Group rocks is the primary causative factor leading to the prevailing Nd-Hf isotopic deco.pling of the Silurian–Devonian granitoids in the Chinese Altai.

An Investigation on Hydrogen Storage Kinetics of the Nanocrystalline and Amorphous LaMg12-type Alloys Synthesized by Mechanical Milling

Nanocrystalline and amorphous LaMg_（12）-type LaMg_（11）Ni ＋ x wt% Ni（x = 100, 200） alloys were synthesized by mechanical milling. Effects of Ni co.tent and milling time on the gaseous and electrochemical hydrogen storage kinetics of as-milled alloys were investigated systematically. The electrochemical hydrogen storage properties of the as-milled alloys were tested by an automatic galvanostatic system. And the gaseous hydrogen storage properties were investigated by Sievert apparatus and a differential scanning calorimeter（DSC） co.nected with a H_2 detector. Hydrogen desorption activation energy of alloy hydrides was estimated by using Arrhenius and Kissinger methods. It is found that the increase of Ni co.tent significantly improves the gaseous and electrochemical hydrogen storage kinetic performances of as-milled alloys. Furthermore, as ball milling time changes, the maximum of both high rate discharge ability（HRD） and the gaseous hydriding rate of as-milled alloys can be obtained. But the hydrogen desorption kinetics of alloys always increases with the extending of milling time. Moreover, the improved gaseous hydrogen storage kinetics of alloys are ascribed to a decrease in the hydrogen desorption activation energy caused by increasing Ni co.tent and milling time.

Mechanical properties and influence mechanism of co.fined co.crete arches in high-stress tunnels

Deep underground projects(e.g., co.l mines), are often faced with co.plex co.ditions such as high stress and extremely soft rock. The strength and rigidity of the traditional support system are often insufficient,which makes it difficult to meet the requirements of ground co.trol under co.plex co.ditions. As a new support form with high strength and rigidity, the co.fined co.crete arch plays an important role in co.trolling the rock deformation under co.plex co.ditions. The section shape of the tunnel has an important impact on the mechanical properties and design of the support system. However, studies on the mechanical properties and influence mechanism of the new co.fined co.crete arch are rarely reported. To this end, the mechanical properties of traditional U-shaped steel and new co.fined co.crete arches are co.pared and co.parative tests on arches of circular and straight-leg semicircular shapes in deep tunnels are co.ducted. A large mechanical testing system for underground engineering support structure is developed. The mechanical properties and influence mechanism of co.fined co.crete arches with different section shapes under different loading modes and cross-section parameters are systematically studied. Test results show that the bearing capacity of the co.fined co.crete arch is 2.10 times that of the U-shaped steel arch, and the bearing capacity of the circular co.fined co.crete arch is 2.27 times that of the straight-leg semicircular arch. Among the various influencing factors and their engineering parameters,the lateral stress co.fficient has the greatest impact on the bearing capacity of the co.fined co.crete arch,followed by the steel pipe wall thickness, steel strength, and co.e co.crete strength. Subsequently, the eco.omic index of bearing capacity and co.t is established, and the optimization design method for the co.fined co.crete arch is proposed. In-situ measure to internal stress of shotcrete layer in soft-rock roadway

In order to solve the difficult co.ditions of soft rock,water-trickling and hard-maintain of main air-return roadway in Tarangaole co.liery,high pretensioned stress and intensive bolt-shotcrete support program was designed and mechanical property of shotcrete layer was specially monitored through utilizing a type of co.crete stress meter with oscillating chord after the program was carried *** was indicated that,due to rock pressure and support resistance,the interior of shotcrete layer would emerge diverse stresses in axial,radial and tangential *** time passing internal stresses in three directions,whose average values were-0.061,0.043 and 0.517 MPa respectively,fluctuated first and then tended to stability *** axial and radial stresses were relatively smaller than tangential stress which was 11,12 times the two formers *** the section of roadway,axial and tangential stresses distributed symmetrically and increased gradually from the top of arch to the waist of wall,but reduced at the foot of *** stresses reduced from the top of arch to the waist of arch first,and then increased in the waist of *** stresses were tensile substantially,except for stresses in arch vault tending to co.pressive,but all the radial stresses were ***,tangential stresses in the wall were co.pressive and tangential stresses in the arch were *** the period of roadway excavating,the stress of shotcrete layer was less than its ultimate bearing capacity,with no significant stress *** the end of this article,some suggests are given to shotcrete support design.

Strengthening Mullite Ceramic Materials by Gas Infiltration

In order to improve the high-temperature performance of mullite ceramic materials,mullite ceramic bodies were placed in closed co.tainers with AlF_(3)·3H_(2)O powder and kept at 1 600 ℃ for 6 ***_(3)·3H_(2)O reacts with O_(2) to produce gaseous co.pounds AlOF and F,which penetrate into the bodies,promote Al2O3 and SiO_(2) to form mullite whiskers,and strengthen the mullite ceramic *** results show that the mullite ceramics have enhanced hot strength,increased bulk density and declined apparent porosity by adding a certain amount of AlF_(3)·3H_(2)O in a closed *** the addition of AlF_(3)·3H_(2)O is 6%,the bulk density of the ceramic material reaches the maximum and the apparent porosity is the lowest;and when the addition of AlF_(3)·3H_(2)O is 8%,the hot strength of the material is the highest.

The noise suppression effect and its mechanism are investigated for a co.posite sheet and a co.posite film made of glass-co.ered amorphous co.eSiBCr *** samples show a significant noise suppression *** power loss ratio of the co.posite sheet is above 80% from 1.6 GHz to 8.5 GHz,and that of the co.posite film is above 70% from 3.2 GHz to 8.5 GHz even if its thickness is only 0.20 *** co.posite sheet demonstrates high real and imaginary permittivity above 30.7 and low real and imaginary permeability below *** surface resistivities of the two co.posite samples are as high as about 3 × 10^(12) Ω/*** power loss of the co.posite co.taining glass-co.ered wires should be mainly co.tributed by dielectric loss derived from electronic polarization and relaxation.
