Satellite remote sensing reveals overwhelming recovery of forest from disturbances in Asia

Forest ecosystems play key roles in mitigating human-induced climate change through enhanced carbon uptake;however,frequently occurring climate extremes and human activities have considerably threatened the stability of *** the same time,detailed accounts of disturbances and forest responses are not yet well quantified in *** study employed the Breaks For Additive Seasonal and Trend method-an abrupt-change detection method-to analyze the Enhanced Vegetation Index time series in East Asia,South Asia,and Southeast *** approach allowed us to detect forest disturbance and quantify the resilience after *** showed that 20%of forests experienced disturbance with an increasing trend from 2000 to 2022,and Southeast Asian countries were more severely affected by ***,95%of forests had robust resilience and could recover from disturbance within a few *** resilience of forests suffering from greater magnitude of disturbance tended to be stronger than forests with lower disturbance *** summary,this study investigated the resilience of forests across the low and middle latitudes of Asia over the past two *** authors found that most forests exhibited good resilience after disturbance and about two-thirds had recovered to a better state in *** findings of this study underscore the complex relationship between disturbance and resilience,contributing to comprehension of forest resilience through satellite remote sensing.

Part-load Performance Characteristics of a Lean Burn Catalytic Combustion Gas Turbine System

The purpose of this study is to compare the part-load performance of a lean burn catalytic combustion gas turbine (LBCCGT) system in three different control modes: varying fuel, bleeding off the fuel mixture flow after the compressor and varying rotational speed. The conversions of methane species for chemical process are considered. A 1D heterogeneous plug flow model was utilized to analyze the system performance. The actual turbomachinery components were designed and predicted performance maps were applied to system performance research. The part-load characteristics under three control strategies were numerically investigated. The main results show that: the combustor inlet temperature is a significant factor that can significantly affect the part-load characteristics of the LBCCGT system; the rotational speed control mode can provide the best performance characteristics for part-load operations; the operation range of the bleed off mode is narrower than that of the speed control mode and wider than that of the fuel only mode; with reduced power, methane does not achieve full conversion over the reactor at the fuel only control mode, which will not warrant stable operation of the turbine system; the thermal efficiency of the LBCCGT system at fuel only control strategy is higher than that at bleed off control strategy within the operation range.

Recycling of industrial waste and performance of steel slag green concrete

Workability and mechanical properties of steel slag green concrete with different types of steel slag and different dosages of admixtures were investigated. The effectiveness of steel slag powder on suppressing alkali aggregate reaction(AAR) expansion was assessed using the method of ASTM C441 and accelerated test method. Experimental results show that mechanical properties can be improved further due to the synergistic effect and mutual activation when compound mineral admixtures with steel slag powder and blast-furnace slag powder are mixed into concrete. In addition,about 50% decrease in expansion rate of mortar bars with mineral admixtures can be achieved in AAR tests. Mineral admixtures with steel slag powder as partial replacement for Portland cement in concrete is an effective means for controlling expansion due to AAR.

building thermal climatic zoning is a key issue in building energy *** degree days(HDD) and cooling degree days(CDD) are often employed as indexes to represent the heating and cooling energy demand in climatic ***,only using degree days may oversimplify the climatic zoning in regions with complex climatic *** the present study,the application of degree days to current building thermal climatic zoning in china was assessed based on performance *** investigate the key indexes for thermal climatic zoning,the climate characteristics of typical cities were analyzed and the relationships between the climate indexes and heating/cooling demand were *** results reveal that the annual cumulative heating load had a linear correlation with HDD 18 only in regions with small differences in ***,HDD is unsuitable for representing the heating demand in regions with large differences in altitude.A comprehensive index(winter climatic severity index) should be employed instead of HDD,or complementary indexes(daily global solar radiation or altitude) could be used to further divide climate *** the current official climatic zoning,the base temperature of 26℃ for CDD is excessively *** appropriate base temperature range is 18℃ to 22℃.This study provides a reference for selecting indexes to improve thermal climatic zoning in regions with similar climates.

Energy efficiency improvement in Chinese construction has progressed rapidly over the past two *** zero energy buildings(NZEBs),as an integrated solution for energy-efficient construction,have gained significant attention during china's 13th Five-Year Plan period,with continuous maturation of the technical *** this study,a research framework built upon the accomplishments of china's National Key Research and Development Program is developed,and an in-depth analysis of the most cutting-edge research is provided by thoroughly reviewing the work conducted *** NZEB in china has been categorized into three stages based on the characteristics of technological development:(1)definition and standards,(2)demonstration and promotion,and(3)cross-domain *** study discerns four noteworthy development trends by examining comprehensive data spanning the last decade from 100 NZEB and zero energy ***,a comprehensive analysis of essential technology advancements in line with these identified trends is *** issues and challenges arising from the increased application of renewable energy in the context of china's carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals have also been ***,based on this analysis,the challenges and corresponding suggestions for future research directions were proposed to help guide future studies exploring emerging trends in the NZEB field.

Crystallization and Conductivity Mechanism of ITO Films on Different Substrates Deposited with Different Substrate Temperatures

ITO thin films were grown on PC（polycarbonate）, PMMA（polymethyl methacrylate） and glass substrates by r.f. magnetron sputtering. The electrical, structural and chemical characteristics of ITO films were analyzed by the Hall Technique, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. XPS studies suggest that all the ITO films consist of crystalline and amorphous phases. The degree of crystallinity increases from less than 45% to more than 90% when the substrate temperature increases from 80 to 300 ℃. The In and Sn exist in the chemical state of In^3＋ and Sn^4＋, respectively, independent of substrate type and temperature. The enrichment of Sn on surface and In in body of ITO films are also revealed. And, the oxygen deficient regions exist both in surface layer and film body. For ITO films deposited under 180 ℃ , the carrier concentration are mainly provided by oxygen vacancies, and the dominant electron carrier scattering mechanism is grain boundary scattering between the crystal and the amorphous grain. For ITO films deposited over 180 ℃, the carrier concentration are provided by tin doping, and the dominant scattering mechanism transforms from grain boundary scattering between the crystal grains to ionized impurity scattering with increasing deposition temperature.

The Influence of Two Natural Reinforcement Fibers on the Hygrothermal Properties of Earthen Plasters in Mogao Grottoes of china

Murals in Mogao Grottoes consist of three parts:support layer,earthen plasters and paint *** earthen plasters play a key role in the preservation of *** is a mixture of Dengban soil,sand,and plant *** different natural fibers,hemp fiber and cotton fiber,were reinforced to earthen plasters in the same percentage to evaluate the influence on hygrothermal *** two types of earthen plasters were studied:one containing hemp fiber in the fine plaster(HFP)and the other containing cotton fiber in the fine plaster(CFP).Specific heat capacity,dry thermal conductivity,water vapor permeability,and sorption isotherms were *** results showed that the difference between two natural fibers has much more impact on the hygric properties(water vapor permeability and sorption isotherms)of earthen plasters than on their thermal performance(specific heat capacity and dry thermal conductivity).The CFP with higher density has higher thermal conductivity than the HFP with lower *** no significant differences of specific heat capacity were *** with HFP,CFP used in murals can reduce the rate of water transfer and prevent salt from transferring water to the mural *** overall findings highlight that all these features of CFP are beneficial to the long-term preservation of mur*** study of the earthen plasters in Mogao Grottoes is of general significance,and the measured properties can be used to obtain coupled heat and moisture analysis of the earthen plasters and to dissect the degradation mechanism of murals.

Luminescence Characteristics of Ce^(3+) Doped Ca-Al-Ba Glass

The Al-Ca-Ba glass system with good chemical durability was firstly investigated as the scintillators host. Luminescence properties of Ce3＋ ions in this glass were studied, and obvious red shift and larger stokes shift with respect to others system were investigared. The excellent physical property such as high density and large refractive index implies this glass as an important material for the high quality scintillating fiber.

Clean-energy utilization technology in the transformation of existing urban residences in china

Clean-energy substitution technology for existing residential buildings in cities is an inevitable choice for sustainable development and low-carbon ecological city *** this paper,the current status of energy-saving renovation and renewable-energy applications for existing residential buildings in various cities in china was summarized by using statistical *** geographical distribution of clean-energy power generation in primary energy production in china was explored in *** to different climatic divisions for existing urban residences,clean-energy production and consumption were analyzed and predicted based on the STIRPAT *** results show that the energy consumption of urban residential buildings in 2016 increased by 43.6%compared with 2009,and the percentage of clean energy also increased from 7.9%to 13.4%.Different climatic regions have different advantages regarding clean energy:nuclear power generation leads in the region that experiences hot summers and warm winters,whereas wind and solar power generation lead in the cold and severely cold *** present results provide basic data support for the planning and implementation of clean-energy upgrading and transformation systems in existing urban residences in china.

Effect of Coal Gangue with Different Kaolin Contents on Compressive Strength and Pore Size of Blended Cement Paste

The effects of activated coal gangue on compressive strength, porosity and pore size distribution of hardened cement pastes were investigated. Activated coal gangue with two different kaolin contents, one higher and one lower, were used to partially replace Portland cement at 0%, 10%, and 30% by weight. The water to binder ratio（w/b） of 0.5 was used for all the blended cement paste mixes. Experimental results indicate that the blended cement of activated coal gangue mortar with higher kaolin mineral content has a higher compressive strength than that with lower kaolin mineral content. The porosity and pore size of blended cement mortar were significantly affected by the replacement of activated coal gangue.
