Quambalaria species associated with eucalypt diseases in southern china

The genus Quambalaria includes several important pathogens of species of eucalyptus and Corymbia, mainly causing leaf and shoot blight. Recently,extensive shoot and leaf dieback and stem cankers suspected to be Quambalaria diseases have been found on young eucalyptus urophylla ? E. grandis trees in Guangdong and Hainan Provinces. The occurrence of Quambalaria species and their association with eucalypt hosts within china needs to be investigated for tree diseases management. The isolates from the diseased samples were identified based on their morphological structures and phylogenetic analyses with DNA sequence data for the internal transcribed spacer region and large ribosome subunit RNA of the nuclear r DNA. This work revealed that three species of Quambalaria were present: Quambalaria pitereka from Corymbia citriodora,Q. eucalypti from E. urophylla ? E. grandis, both isolated from young eucalypt leaves and shoots in Guangdong Province, and Quambalaria simpsonii, which was isolated from stem cankers of E. urophylla ? E. grandis at four different sites across Guangdong and Hainan *** results confirmed that Quambalaria agents were associated with the diseases occurring on eucalypt hosts in South china. This is the first report of Q. eucalypti in Asia and the first report of Q. simpsonii in china on eucalyptus trees.

In this study,28,691 genome sequences and16,566 expressed sequence tags(ESTs) of eucalyptus were derived from the Gen Bank database.A total of 2292 SSR loci were sought out from 1785 effective *** analyses of SSR loci information,the SSR motif length was negatively correlated with the abundance of the *** the EST sequences of eucalyptus,triplet repeat motifs were the most abundant,and dinucleotide repeats motifs had the highest ***,395 pairs of primers were designed based on the SSR *** optimized SSR-PCR conditions,340 pairs of primers were successfully screened,with a success rate of 86.1%.By construction of a maximum likelihood phylogenetic tree of six eucalypt species,represented by five species of the genus eucalyptus and one of the genus Corymbia,the genetic relationships of eucalyptus urophylla and *** suggested by this tree was found to differ from that suggested by traditional morphological *** results provide insights for evaluating geneticdiversity of eucalyptus and analysis of eucalyptus phylogenetics using SSR markers.

Botryosphaeria panicle and shoot blight was considered as one of the single greatest threats to the California pistachio industry in the last two decades.A large number of fungi with typical morphological characteristics of Botryosphaeriaceae and Diaporthe were collected from pistachios in 18 counties in California and deposited in our culture *** aims of this study were to identify these isolates,recognize the distribution of these fungal species and test their pathogenicity to pistachio cultivars.A total of 304 California isolates were identified based on comparisons of DNA sequence data of the ITS,TEF-1α and β-tubulin gene regions,and combined with the morphological features of the cultures and *** results showed that California isolates represent eight species of Botryosphaeriaceae and one species of *** species include Botryosphaeria dothidea,Diplodia seriata,Dothiorella iberica,***,Lasiodiplodia citricola,***,Neofusicoccum mediterraneum,*** and Diaporthe *** the Botryosphaeriaceae,86% of the isolates were identified as ***,which distributed in all the sampled *** pistachio trees,in addition to isolates from California,*** from Arizona,*** from Australia,***,*** and *** from Greece were also *** of the California fungi on pistachio cultivars,Kerman(female)and Peters(male),using a mycelium plug and conidial suspension inoculation methods showed that all these species are pathogenic to the two tested pistachio cultivars,with ***,*** being the most pathogenic species,followed by *** study represents the first comprehensive work on the species identification,distribution and pathogenicity of Botryosphaeriaceae and Diaporthe on pistachio in California.

Multi-generational planting of eucalyptus species degrades soil quality but the introduction of legumes can improve soil fertility and microbial ***,the effects of introducing non-legume native tree species on soil nutrients and bacterial community structure remain poorly *** study investigated the impacts of the conversion of third generation monoculture eucalyptus plantations to mixed systems including eucalyptus urograndis with Cinnamomum camphora(EC)and *** with Castanopsis hystrix(EH),on soil chemical and biochemical properties and bacterial community structure,diversity and *** generation *** plantations were the *** show that planting the third generation eucalyptus led to a significant decrease in p H,organic matter,nutrient content,enzyme activities(invertin,acid phosphataes,and urease),and bacterialα-diversity compare to the ***,the mixed planting showed significant improvement in soil chemical and biochemical attributes and bacterialα-diversity,although the *** and *** planting had no ***(oligotrophic bacteria)were significantly enriched in third generation eucalyptus and eucalyptus+***,while proteobacteria increased significantly in the *** with *** *** relative abundance of multiple metabolic pathways increased significantly in the third generation eucalyptus plantations whereas membrane transportrelated genes were enriched in soils of the mixed *** changes in bacterial community structures in the two mixed systems were driven by diversity,organic matter and acid phosphatase,while bacterial functions were affected by invertase,NO_(3)^(-)-N,diversity and *** results suggest that the transformation of successive monoculture eucalyptus plantations into mixed plantations reduces the depletion of soil nutrients and enhances the ecological function of soil microorganisms.

Effects of Applying New-style Growth Hormone on eucalypt Cuttage

Diethyl aminoethyl hexanoate AC is a new-style growth hormone that induces cuttings to root by molecule signal. With Eucalptus urophylla and E. urophyllaxE, grandis as testing varieties, effects of applying different growth hormones on eucalypt cuttage were compared through experiments, and the result showed that diethyl aminoethyl hexanoate AC made cuttings root 4 days earlier than other common growth hormones did. The average rooting rate and the mean root quantity of diethyl aminoethyl hexanoate AC treated cuttings were 11%-26.5% higher than and 1.8-8.5 pieces per cutting more than those in other treatments. Besides, the seedlings were excellent. The new-style growth hormone improves cuttage of eucalypt to a higher level.

The species in the genus are commonly associated with conifer-infesting bark *** can also result in sapstain on wood,and several species are important tree ***, around 60 species of Leptographium have been reported from different parts of the world, especially from ***,very limited knowledge is known on this important fungal group in *** this review,we updated the current status of the reported Leptographium species from china such as:***,***,and ***. These three fungal species are associated with three economically important bark beetles in china, Tomicus yunnanensis,Dendroctonus armandii,and ***,*** the course of 2001-2003,we conducted the survey on Leptographium from china,and we also discuss our findings here.A number of new taxa have emerged from our study,and certainly this will enrich our understanding on this important fungal group globally.

Commercial plantations of eucalyptus species have been established in South china,especially during the past 20 years,to meet the needs of a rapidly growing national *** part of a survey of fungal diseases affecting eucalyptus species in South china,Ceratocystis species were collected from eucalyptus plantations in the GuangDong *** aims of this study were to identify these Ceratocystis isolates and to test their pathogenicity to *** most aggressive isolates were also used to screen different species and clones of eucalyptus for susceptibility to infection under field *** fungi were identified based on morphology and through comparisons of DNA sequence data of the ITS,partialβ-tubulin and TEF-1αgene *** and DNA sequence comparisons showed that isolates collected from Chinese eucalyptus plantations represent two species,*** in the *** *** complex and a previously undescribed species belonging to the *** *** complex,for which the name *** *** *** pathogenicity trials,both *** and *** gave rise to lesions on wounded eucalyptus trees,and the former fungus was most *** were also observed in the responses of different eucalyptus clones to inoculation and this could be useful in reducing disease,if *** should emerge as a pathogen in the future.
