Effect of Clostridium butyricum on fecal flora in Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy

AIM： To investigate the effect of probiotic bacterium, Clostridium butyricum MIYAIRI 588 strain （CBM） on the changes of the fecal flora in Helicobacter pylori （H pylon） treatment. METHODS： Thirty-five patients with gastric or duodenal ulcers positive for H pylori were randomized either to 1 wk amoxicillin, clarithromycin, lansoprazole （Group 1） or to the same regimen supplemented with CBM 7 d ahead of the triple therapy （Group 2）. Stool samples were collected before and 2, 4, 7, 15, and 22 d after the starting eradication therapy, and were examined intestinal flora. Patients were required to keep a diary record of their condition. RESULTS： Obligate anaerobes decreased significantly on d 2, 4, 8 and 15 in Group 1. On the other hand, they did not decrease significantly in Group 2. The Escherichia coli was dominant bacterium in Enterobacteriaceae, but that was replaced by other species such as Klebsiella and Enterobacter after eradication in Group 1. The change was suppressed in Group 2. Abdominal symptoms were less frequent in Group 2 than in Group 1. CONCLUSION： The combined use of CBM reduced the changes in the intestinal flora and decreased the incidence of gastrointestinal side effects.

AIM:Hepatitis C virus(HCV)infection is very common among end-stage kidney disease patients on hemodialysis,but its natural history is not known. METHODS:In this study,189 dialysis patients(case) positive for HCV antibodies who were followed up for more than 4 years were compared with twice as many sex/age matched controls with chronic hepatitis C who were diagnosed in the same month as the case and followed up for comparable *** longest follow-up was 23 years in dialysis cases. The disease activities were graded into'asymptomatic'if ALT was less than 40(35 in cases)IU/L,'low activities'if ALT was 40(35)-79 IU/L,and'high activities'if ALT was above 80 IU/L during the last or latest 4 year period. RESULTS:All 25 dialysis cases who were followed up for more than 15 years were asymptomatic and 15 of them were negative for HCV *** the 50 controls followed up for more than 15 years,34 had high activities,and none deared HCV *** were 60 controls who were asymptomatic, but they were all positive for HCV RNA,while 22.3% of asymptomatic dialysis cases were RNA *** dialysis patients with chronic hepatitis C progressed to cirrhosis, whereas the disease progressed to cirrhosis in more than one quarter of the *** differences were highly significant(P<0.0001). CONCLUSION:Chronic hepatitic C among hemodialysis patients is mild in disease activity,and is not progressive, perhaps due to immunological abnormalities in these patients. Hepatic C virus is frequently cleared in asymptomatic dialysis patients during a long course.A possible mechanism for viral clearance is viral particle destruction on the surface of the dialyzer membrane.

*** Numerous types of antennas have been developed,tested,and utilized for medical applications such as diagnosis,treatment,data transmission,and wireless power transfer(WPT).Recently,compact and robust antennas are needed to realize implantable and wearable wireless devices for medical applications such as delivering drugs from implanted capsules,stimulating nerve systems,and monitoring physiological data[1].Because antennas for medical applications are used close to or in a human body,their effects on the human body should be included in their development and evaluation[2].However,it is rather difficult due to ethical and practical reasons to employ a real human body when experimentally evaluating the characteristics of antennas or wireless devices for medical ***,numerical simulations are generally conducted as an alternative,using elaborate digital human models[3].Many different types of software are now commercially available for this purpose,along with digital human-body models.

Photoautotrophic Growth and Net Photosynthetic Rate of Sweet Potato Plantlets In Vitro as Affected by the Number of Air Exchanges of the Vessel and Type of Supporting Material

To produce high-quality sweet potato plantlets rapidly at low production costs, single nodal leafy cuttings of sweet potato （Ipomoea batatas （L.） Lam.） plantlets were cultured in vitro for 14 days on sugarand phytohormone-free Murashige and Skoog （MS） liquid medium, at a photosynthetic photon flux （PPF） of 200 μmol.m^-2.s^-1 and a CO2 concentration （v/v） of 1.8×10^-3. A factorial experiment was conducted with two levels of the number of air exchanges of the vessel （NAE）, 8.7-12.2 h^-1 and 〉12.2 h^-1, and two types of supporting material, vermiculite and Florialite （a porous material）. The control treatment consisted of a pho- tomixotrophic culture using a sugar- and NAA-containing agar MS medium with an NAE of 2.4 h^-1. PPF and CO2 concentrations were the same as the photoautotrophic treatments. In comparison with the control treatment, the photoautotrophic treatments with NAE of 8.7-12.2 h^-1 （MF treatment） and ≥12.2 h^-1 （HF treatment） were, respectively, 2.2 and 2.8 times in dry weight, and 3.7 and 4.2 times in net photosynthetic rate, when Florialite was used. The survival percentages of the plantlets in the field were, respectively, 86% and 97% in the MF and HF treatments, and 35% and 46% higher than that in the control treatment. The plantlets cultured with Florialite showed greater growth, compared with those cultured with vermiculite. Photoautotrophic micropropagation system with high NAE and the use of porous supporting material can produce high-quality plantlets and make it possible to reduce production costs.

Lenvatinib is an oral molecular target agent that blocks vascular endothelial growth factor receptors 1-3,fibroblast growth factor receptors 1-4,platelet-derived growth factor receptorα,RET,and *** is noninferior,but not statistically superior,to sorafenib with regard to overall survival,according to the findings of a phase 3 trial of lenvatinib versus sorafenib as first-line therapy for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)(the REFLECT trial)(1).Nowadays,lenvatinib has been approved all over the world and has become the second front-line tyrosine kinase inhibitor in patients with advanced *** recommendations for starting lenvatinib therapy for advanced HCC are different from those for other molecular target agents in patient with advanced HCC in that dose is based on body weight(≥60 kg:12 mg once daily;<60 kg:8 mg once daily).The aim of this article is to discuss the weight-based dosing of lenvatinib for advanced HCC.

In this paper, the portfolio selection problem under Cumulative Prospect Theory （CPT） is investigated and a model of portfolio optimization is presented. This model is solved by coupling scenario generation techniques with a genetic algorithm. Moreover, an Adaptive Real-Coded Genetic Algorithm （ARCGA） is developed to find the optimal solution for the proposed model. Computational results show that the proposed method solves the portfolio selection model and that ARCGA is an effective and stable algorithm. We compare the portfolio choices of CPT investors based on various bootstrap techniques for scenario generation and empirically examine the effect of reference points on investment behavior.
