Introduction: Agriculture is the focus of sustainable development and food security in Morocco, contributing 14% to the national economy and its socio-economic impact depends on agro-climatic conditions and the availability of water resources. The objective of this work is to demonstrate that agriculture in Morocco, and especially in the Tadla region, is distributed according to the availability of underground water. Method: This work was carried out in the transition zone between the phosphate plateau and the plain of Tadla, a site of more than 124,000 ha. To achieve the objectives set, we used Landsat-8 OLI (Operational Land Imager) data sharpened to 15 m. The Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifications were applied to the 10-period Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) series. Results: It is shown that agriculture in Morocco is highly dependent on irrigation. In the classified map, it can be observed that the southern region, a zone with a semi-arid climate, which generally relies on irrigation, is very developed in agriculture, whereas in the north most of the soil is bared with cereals that mainly depend on rainfall. Conclusion: The possible water shortage in the region puts food availability in Morocco at risk of inadequacy. food security depends on the availability of water, a natural resource at risk of extinction. Therefore, strategies to reduce the risk of agricultural drought must be at the forefront of Moroccan policies.

Vertical farming systems, such as sky farms, are a potential type of agricultural system for stable and effective food production. Here, we highlight the potential of the sky farm, denoted as the ‘‘skyscraper crop factory”(SCF), for cereal crop production and discuss some nascent technologies that would be applied in this production system. SCFs are ideal crop-production systems for increasing the effective arable area for crops and ensuring food security in times of crises that cause a shock in global trade. They can also provide food in urban areas to meet producers’ and consumers’ demands for the increased nutrition,taste, and safe production of cereal crops. Moreover, as their use can reduce greenhouse gas emissions,SCFs could be a sustainable addition to conventional agricultural crop production.

Introduction: Paraquat (1,1’-dimethyl-4,4’-bipyridine-dichloride) is a herbicide used to combat weeds and improve crop productivity. Its acute toxicity can cause fatal poisoning in humans and animals and several studies have shown a strong correlation between paraquat and Parkinson’s disease. Objective: To determine the concentration of paraquat in different types of rice in Brazil. Method: Paraquat quantification is based on a complexation reaction with sodium dithionite, which generates a blueish color compound, whose absorbance was read in a spectrophotometer at the 600 nm wavelength. Results: Five samples were found to be above the maximum allowed limit, while one sample had a concentration in the upper allowed limit. The method employed did not allow quantification of black rice. Conclusion: There is a need for identification of the type of pesticide used in each examined crop as well as their respective dates of remission in order to improve the safety of agricultural practices.

Background:Economic dimensions of implementing quality improvement for diabetes care are understudied *** describe the economic evaluation protocol within a randomised controlled trial that tested a multicomponent quality improvement(QI)strategy for individuals with poorly-controlled type 2 diabetes in South ***/design:This economic evaluation of the Centre for Cardiometabolic Risk Reduction in South Asia(CARRS)randomised trial involved 1146 people with poorly-controlled type 2 diabetes receiving care at 10 diverse diabetes clinics across India and *** economic evaluation comprises both a within-trial cost-effectiveness analysis(mean 2.5 years follow up)and a microsimulation model-based cost-utility analysis(life-time horizon).Effectiveness measures include multiple risk factor control(achieving HbA1cfood,and escort/accompanying person costs,transport)and inpatient care(hospitalization,transport,and accompanying person costs)of the intervention compared to usual diabetes ***,healthcare system,and societal perspectives will be applied for *** cost and health effects will be discounted at 3%per year for within trial cost-effectiveness analysis over 2.5 years and decision modelling analysis over a lifetime *** will be reported as the incremental cost-effectiveness ratios(ICER)to achieve multiple risk factor control,avoid diabetes-related complications,or QALYs gained against varying levels of willingness to pay threshold *** analyses will be performed to assess uncertainties around ICER estimates by varying costs(95%CIs)across publ
