In this paper, compounds identified in the essential oils obtained by hydrodistillation of the leaves of Cinnamomum glaucescens (Nees) Hand.-Mazz and Cinnamomum verum J.S. Presl (Lauraceae family) of Vietnam origin are reported. The chemical analyses were performed using gas chromatography-flame ionisation detector (GC-FID) and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The significant compounds of C. glaucescens were geraniol (36.2%) and terpinen-4-ol (19.7%). On the other hand, C. verum comprised of linalool (22.0%) and bicyclogermacrene (11.2%). The present results may represent new chemotypes of the essential oils of C. verum and C. glaucescens.

In Jordan,Salvia ceratophylla *** traditionally used in the treatment of cancer,microbial infections,and urinary *** study aimed:(1)to chemically characterize *** essential oil(EO)from South Jordan,by gas chromatography(GC)and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS);and(2)to evaluate in vitro the cytotoxic,anti-inflammatory,and antiprotozoal activities of the EO,it’s predominant components,and the hexane(A),ethyl acetate(B),methanol(C)and crude-methanol extracts(D).The analysis revealed that the EO has 71 compounds,with linalool(54.8%)as main *** the hexane extract(A)showed some cytotoxic activity against SK-MEL,KB,BT-549,SK-OV-3,LLC-PK1 and VERO cells lines with IC50 between 60 and>100μg/*** EO inhibited NO production(IC5090μg/mL)and NF-κB activity(IC5038μg/mL).The extracts A,B,and D inhibited NO production and NF-κB activity with IC50 between 32 and 150μg/*** considerably inhibited NO production(IC5018μg/mL).The extracts tested did not exhibit antileish-manial *** antitrypanosomal activity,the EO exhibited significant results with IC502.65μg/*** conclu-sion,Jordan *** EO represents a rich source of linalool and bears a promising therapeutic potential for further antitrypanosomal drug development.

This paper reviews recent progress in the structural modification and activities on Panax notoginseng saponins(PNS).PNS can not only improve the function of cardio-cerebral system,central nervous system and immune system,but also reveal anticancer,anti-aging and anti-oxidation *** order to solve the problem of low bioavailability and poor absorbability of PNS in vivo,usually,the researchers modified the structure of PNS with three methods:glycoside cleavage(including acid hydrolysis,sulfation,etc.),biotransformation method(including enzyme hydrolysis,microbial transformation)and combinatorial chemical *** was found that the structural modification sites of PNS were single,mainly aimed at C-3,C-6 and C-20,which provided a new perspective for the structural modification of ***,structural modification on PNS with high yield and ready availability are significant in the discovery of new active ingredients and *** of PNS are applied to research of structure-activity relationship,which is beneficial to the development of new medicines.

Marine organisms have attracted special attention in the last three decades for their ability to produce interesting pharmacological active *** though all marine organisms have the potential to produce antimicrobial secondary metabolites,the gastropod has the vital sources of secondary metabolites particularly their egg capsule which has the promising antimicrobial secondary *** the present review,we intend to focus on marine secondary metabolites from marine gastropod egg *** following compounds *** C,Aplysianin E, Aplysianin A,Thisaplysianin E and Tyrian purple have been documented in egg capsule of various gastropod and most of the antimicrobial secondary metabolites have not been isolated from the egg capsule because of the odious,and complex chemical *** of the compounds is unknown.

Unfavorable fishy odour is an inevitable problem in aquatic products. In the present study, headspace solid-phase mi- croextraction gas chromatography mass spectrometry （HS-SPME-GC-MS） analysis of volatiles from untreated samples and three deodorized samples （under the optimal conditions） ofPaphia undulata enzymatic hydrolysate revealed that the compounds contrib- uting to the distinctive odor were 1-octen-3-ol, n-hexanal, n-heptanal, 2,4-heptadienal, and 2,4-decadienal, whereas n-pentanal, n-octanal, n-octanol, benzaldehyde, 2-ethylfuran and 2-pentylfuran were the main contributors to the aromatic flavor. The deodoriz- ing effects of activated carbon （AC） adsorption, yeast extract （YE） masking and tea polyphenol （TP） treatment on a P. undulata en- zymatic hydrolysate were investigated using orthogonal experiments with sensory evaluation as the index. The following optimized deodorization conditions were obtained： AC adsorption （35 mg mL-1, 80℃, 40 rain）, YE masking （7 mgmL l, 45 ℃, 30 min） and TP treatment （0.4mgmL-l, 40℃, 50min）. AC adsorption effectively removed off-flavor volatile aldehydes and ketones. YE masking modified the odor profile by increasing the relative contents of aromatic compounds and decreasing the relative contents of aldehydes and ketones. The TP treatment was not effective in reducing the odor score, but it significantly reduced the relative content of alde- hydes while increasing that of alkanes. It is also notable that TP effectively suppressed trimethylamine （TMA） formation in a P. un- dulate hydrolysate solution for a period of 72 h.

Microplastics provide a new ecological niche for microorganisms,and the accumulation levels of microplastics(MPs)in terrestrial ecosystems are higher than those in marine ***,we applied the zymography to investigate how MPs–polyethylene[PE],and polyvinyl chloride[PVC])at two levels(0.01%and 1%soil weight)impacted the spatial distribution of soil hydrolases,nutrient availability,and rice growth in paddy *** increased the above-ground biomass by 13.0%–15.5%and decreased the below-ground biomass by 8.0%–15.1%.Addition of 0.01%and 1%MPs reduced soil NH4+content by 18.3%–63.2%and 52.2%–80.2%,*** average activities of N-and P-hydrolases increased by 0.8%–4.8%and 1.9%–6.3%with addition of MPs,*** nutrient uptake by rice plants and the enzyme activities in hotspots increased with MP content in *** accumulation of MPs in paddy soil could provide an ecological niche that facilitates microbial survival,alters the spatial distribution of soil hydrolases,and decreases nutrient availability.

The essential oil composition of Thymus vulgaris L. and Rosmarinus officinalis L. endemic to France were determined by GC and GC-MS. Oils were assessed for their cytotoxic, antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. 31 and 37 different compounds were identified representing 99.64% and 99.38% of the thyme and rosemary oils respectively, where oxygenated monoterpenes constituted the main chemical class. Thymol (41.33%) and 1.8-cineole (24.10%) were identified as the main constituents of T. vulgaris L. and R. officinalis L., respectively. Essential oils (EOs) of selected plant species were evaluated for their in vitro cytotoxicity against the human lung adenocarcinoma epithelial cell line (A549). Cytotoxicity was measured using MTT [3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphynyltetra-zolium bromide] colorimetric assay. Dose-dependent studies revealed IC50 of 8.50 ± 0.01 μg/mL and 10.50 ± 0.01 μg/mL after 72 h on the A549 cells for R. officinalis L. and T. vulgaris L., respectively. Antioxidant activity was determined using a quantitative DPPH (1,1-diphenyl- 2-picryl hydrazyl) assay. Thymus and rosemary EOs exhibited effective radical scavenging capacity with 50% inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 437 ± 5.46 μg/mL and 189 ± 2.38 μg/mL respectively and therefore acts as a natural antioxidant agent. The antimicrobial activity of these species has also been studied against several foodborne pathogens and food isolated Salmonella spp. including S. enteritidis of significant importance. According to the results, T. vulgaris L. showed higher bactericidal effect than those from R. officinalis L. These results suggest that the essential oil from T. vulgaris L. and R. officinalis L. have potential to be used as a natural cytotoxic, antioxidant and antimicrobial agent in food processing.

Multistep conversion of cresols by phenol hydroxylase and 2,3-dihydroxy-biphenyl 1,2-dioxygenase

A mulfistep conversion system composed of phenol hydroxylase （PHrND） and 2,3-dihydroxy-biphenyl 1,2-dioxygenase （BphCLA_4） was used to synthesize methylcatechols and semialdehydes from o- and m-cresol for the first time. Docking studies displayed by PyMOL predicted that cresols and methylcatechols could be theoretically transformed by this multistep conversion system~ High performance liquid chromatography mass spectrometry （HPLC-MS） analysis also indicated that the products formed from multistep conversion were the corresponding 3-methylcatechol, 4-methylcatechol, 2- hydroxy-3-methyl-6-oxohexa-2,4-dienoic acid （2- hydroxy-3-methyl-ODA） and 2-hydroxy-5-methyl-6-oxo- hexa-2,4-dienoic acid （2-hydroxy-5-methyl-ODA）. The optimal cell concentrations of the recombinant E. coli strain BL21 （DE3） expressing phenol hydroxylase （PHrND） and 2,3-dihydroxy-biphenyl 1,2-dioxygenase （BphCLA_4） and pH for the multistep conversion of o- and m-cresol were 4.0 （g-L-1 cell dry weight） and pH 8.0, respectively. For the first step conversion, the formation rate of 3- methylcatechol （0.29μmol·L-1·min-1·mg-1cell dry weight） from o-cresol was similarly with that ofmethylca- techols （0.28 μmol·L-1·min-1·mg-1 cell dry weight） from m-cresol by strain PHrND. For the second step conversion, strain BphCLA_4 showed higher formation rate （0.83 μmol·L-1·min-1·mg-1 cell dry weight） for 2-hydroxy-3-methyl- ODA and 2-hydroxy-5-methyl-ODA from m-cresol, which was 1.1-fold higher than that for 2-hydroxy-3-methyl- ODA （0.77 μmol·L-1·min-1·mg-1. mglcell dry weight） from ocresol. The present study suggested the potential application of the multistep conversion system for the production of chemical synthons and high-value products.
