Assessing the range of blasting-induced cracks in the surrounding rock of deeply buried tunnels based on the unified strength theory

Blasting-induced cracks in the rock surrounding deeply buried tunnels can result in water gushing and rock mass collapse,posing significant safety ***,previous theoretical studies on the range of blasting-induced cracks often ignore the impact of the in-situ stress,especially that of the intermediate principal *** particle displacement−crack radius relationship was established in this paper by utilizing the blasthole cavity expansion equation,and theoretical analytical formulas of the stress−displacement relationship and the crack radius were derived with unified strength theory to accurately assess the range of cracks in deep surrounding rock under a blasting *** analysis showed that the crushing zone size was positively correlated with in-situ stress,intermediate principal stress,and detonation pressure,whereas negatively correlated with Poisson ratio and decoupling *** dilatancy angle-crushing zone size relationship exhibited nonmonotonic *** relationships in the crushing zone and the fracture zone exhibited opposite trends under the influence of only in-situ stress or intermediate principal *** the in-situ stress increased from 0 to 70 MPa,the rate of change in the crack range and the attenuation rate of the peak vibration velocity gradually slowed.

Wettability regulation from superhydrophilic to superhydrophobic via nanosecond laser ablation

Metal surfaces play a crucial role in numerous applications,from self-cleaning and anti-icing to anti-fogging and oil-water *** regulation of their wettability is essential to enhance their performance in these *** paper proposes a multi-state regulation method for metal surface wettability,leveraging nanosecond laser *** creating non-uniform microstructures on a metal surface,the contact area between the solid and liquid phases can be increased,resulting in the attainment of superhydrophilic properties(contact angle(CA),ranging from 4.6°to 8.5°).Conversely,the construction of uniform microstructures leads to a decreased solid-liquid contact area,thereby rendering the metal surface hydrophilic(CA=12.2°–53°).Furthermore,through heat treatment on a surface with uniform microstructures,organic matter adsorption can be promoted while simultaneously reducing surface *** process results in the metal surface acquiring hydrophobic properties(CA=92.1°–133.5°),facilitated by the“air cushion effect.”Building on the hydrophobic surface,stearic acid modification can further reduce surface energy,ultimately bestowing the metal surface with superhydrophobic properties(CA=150.1°–152.7°,and sliding angle=3.8°).Performance testing has validated the durability and self-cleaning effectiveness of the fabricated superhydrophobic surface while also highlighting the excellent anti-fog performance of the superhydrophilic *** findings strongly indicate the immense potential of these surfaces in various engineering applications.

Reactive scheduling of multiple EOSs under cloud uncertainties:model and algorithms

Most earth observation satellites(EOSs)are low-orbit satellites equipped with optical sensors that cannot see through ***,cloud coverage,high dynamics,and cloud uncertainties are important issues in the scheduling of *** proactive-reactive scheduling framework has been proven to be effective and efficient for the uncertain scheduling problem and has been extensively *** studies have been conducted on methods for the proactive scheduling of EOSs,including expectation,chance-constrained,and robust optimization models and the relevant solution *** study focuses on the reactive scheduling of EOSs under cloud ***,using an example,we describe the reactive scheduling problem in detail,clarifying its significance and key *** the two key objectives of observation profits and scheduling stability,we construct a multi-objective optimization mathematical ***,we obtain the possible disruptions of EOS scheduling during execution under cloud uncertainties,adopting an event-driven policy for the reactive *** the different disruptions,different reactive scheduling algorithms are ***,numerous simulation experiments are conducted to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed reactive scheduling *** experimental results show that the reactive scheduling algorithms can both improve observation profits and reduce system perturbations.

New analytical model of elastic-plastic contact for three-dimensional rough surfaces considering interaction of asperities

The contact calculation of three-dimensional real rough surfaces is the frontier field of tribology and surface *** this study,we consider the interaction and elastic-plastic deformation characteristics of asperities and further,propose an analytical contact calculation method for rough surfaces considering the interaction of *** on the watershed algorithm,the rough surface is segmented and the asperities are reconstructed into *** to the height relationship between the asperities,the definition of the deformation reference height of the matrix between each couple of asperities is ***,the calculation formula of the substrate deformation is provided according to the local contact pressure considering the elastic-plastic deformation of the asperity,and the contact state under a specific load is determined using the iterative correction *** results correspond with those of finite element numerical calculation and the study reveals the following:(1)compared with the results obtained without considering the asperity interaction,contact area,distance,and stiffness will be reduced by 6.6%,19.6%,and 49.5%,respectively,when the influence of asperity interaction is considered;(2)the interaction of the asperities has the greatest influence on the surface contact distance and *** the same load,the existence of asperity interaction will reduce the contact distance,area,and stiffness;(3)considering the interaction of the asperities,the higher asperity will bear more load,but it will simultaneously reduce the contact of the surrounding area and increase that of the distant *** calculation method proposed in this study has the advantages of high calculation efficiency and accuracy,thus,providing the calculation basis and method for subsequent studies on service performance of rough surfaces,such as the calculation of contact stiffness and fatigue performance analysis of rough surfaces.

Effects of a Dry-Mass Conserving Dynamical Core on the Simulation of Tropical Cyclones

The accurate forecasting of tropical cyclones(TCs)is a challenging *** purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a dry-mass conserving(DMC)hydrostatic global spectral dynamical core on TC *** were conducted with DMC and total(moist)mass conserving(TMC)dynamical *** TC forecast performance was first evaluated considering 20 TCs in the West Pacific region observed during the 2020 typhoon *** impacts of the DMC dynamical core on forecasts of individual TCs were then *** DMC dynamical core improved both the track and intensity forecasts,and the TC intensity forecast improvement was much greater than the TC track forecast *** simulations indicated that the DMC dynamical core-simulated TC intensity was stronger regardless of the forecast lead *** the DMC dynamical core experiments,three-dimensional winds and warm and moist cores were consistently enhanced with the TC *** air in the boundary inflow layer was found in the DMC dynamical core experiments at the early simulation *** vapor mixing ratio budget analysis indicated that this mainly depended on the simulated vertical *** updraft above the boundary layer yielded a drier boundary layer,resulting in surface latent heat flux(SLHF)enhancement,the major energy source of TC *** higher DMC dynamical core-simulated updraft in the inner core caused a higher net surface rain rate,producing higher net internal atmospheric diabatic heating and increasing the TC *** results indicate that the stronger DMC dynamical coresimulated TCs are mainly related to the higher DMC vertical velocity.

Oxygen vacancy boosting Fenton reaction in bone scaffold towards fighting bacterial infection

Bacterial infection is a major issue after artificial bone transplantation due to the absence of antibacterial function of bone scaffold,which seriously causes the transplant failure and even amputation in severe *** this study,oxygen vacancy(OV)defects Fe-doped Ti O2(OV-FeTiO2)nanoparticles were synthesized by nano TiO2and Fe3O4via high-energy ball milling,which was then incorporated into polycaprolactone/polyglycolic acid(PCLGA)biodegradable polymer matrix to construct composite bone scaffold with good antibacterial activities by selective laser *** results indicated that OV defects were introduced into the core/shell-structured OV-FeTiO2nanoparticles through multiple welding and breaking during the high-energy ball milling,which facilitated the adsorption of hydrogen peroxide(H2O2)in the bacterial infection microenvironment at the bone transplant *** accumulated H2O2could amplify the Fenton reaction efficiency to induce more hydroxyl radicals(·OH),thereby resulting in more bacterial deaths through·OH-mediated oxidative *** antibacterial strategy had more effective broad-spectrum antibacterial properties against Gram-negative Escherichia coli(***)and Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus(***).In addition,the PCLGA/OV-FeTiO2scaffold possessed mechanical properties that match those of human cancellous bone and good biocompatibility including cell attachment,proliferation and osteogenic differentiation.

Interaction-induced topological transition in spin-orbit coupled ultracold bosons

Recent experiments in ultracold atoms have reported the realization of quantum anomalous Hall phases in spin-orbit coupled *** by such advances,we investigate spin-orbit coupled Bose-Bose mixtures in a two-dimensional square optical Raman *** phase diagrams are obtained via a nonperturbative real-space bosonic dynamical mean-field *** quantum phases are predicted,including Mott phases with z-ferromagnetic,xy-antiferromagnetic and vortex textures,and superfluid phases with the exotic spin orders,induced by the competition between the lattice hopping and spin-orbit *** explain the underlying physics in the Mott regime,an efective Hamiltonian is derived based on second-order perturbation theory,where pseudospin order stems from the interplay of efective Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya superexchange and Heisenberg *** the presence of the Zeeman field,the competition of strong interaction and Zeeman energy facilitates a topological phase,which is confirmed both by the nontrivial topological Bott index and spectral function with topological edge *** work indicates that spin-orbit coupling can induce rich non-Abelian topological physics in strongly correlated ultracold atomic systems.

In this paper, the method of relaxed boundary conditions is applied to rectangular plates with edges which are a sort of the mixture of simply supported portions and clamped portions, so that the lower limit of fundamental frequency of such plates is evaluated. A kind of polynomial satisfying the displacement boundary conditions is designed, os that it is enabled to evaluate the upper limit of fundamental frequency by Ritz' method. The practical calculation examples solved by these methods have given satisfactory results. At the end of this paper, it is pointed out that the socalled exact solution of such plates usually evaluated by the force superposition method is essentially a kind of lower limit of solution, if the truncated error of series which occurs in actual calculation is considered.
