The decrease in species richness toward higher latitudes is an expected biogeographical *** pattern could be related to particular envi-ronmental constraints and the evolutionary history of ***,species richness does not fully represent the evolutionary history of the clades behind their *** diversity better clarifies the role of historical factors in biogeographical *** analyzed envi-ronmental and historical drivers related to latitudinal variation in species richness and phylogenetic diversity of Atlantic Forest endemic *** implemented species distribution models,from voucherbased locality points,to map the snake ranges and *** used generalized additive mixed models to evaluate the relationships among the diversity metrics and area,topographical roughness,and past climate change velocity since the Last Maximum Glacial in the Atlantic Forest latitudinal *** to the expected general pattern,species richness was higher toward higher latitudes,being positively related to past climatic *** richness also increased with total area and higher topographical *** diversity,on the other hand,showed opposite relationships related to the same *** diversity increased with lower climatic stability in lower ***,dimensions of diversity were affected in different ways by historical and environmental constraints in this unique and threatened biodiversity hotspot.

Host preference of the bean weevil Zabrotes subfasciatus

It is largely known that the range of an insect diet is mostly determined by oviposition behavior, mainly in species with endophytic larvae such as Zabrotes subfasciatus. However, the proximate factors determining host choice and the subsequent steps leading to the expansion or reduction of the host number and occasional host shifts are largely unknown. We analyzed various factors determining host preference of Z. subfasciatus through the evaluation of：（i） oviposition preference of a wild population of Z. subfasciatus on the usual host （bean） and unusual hosts （lentil, chickpea and soy）, and the performance of the offspring; （ii） artificial selection for increasing preference for hosts initially less frequently chosen; （iii） comparison of oviposition behavior between two different populations （reared for -30 generations in beans or chickpeas, respectively）; （iv） oviposition timing on usual and unusual hosts; and （v） identification of preference hierarchies. We found that when using unusual hosts, there is no correlation between performance and preference and that the preference hierarchy changes only slightly when the population passes through several generations on the less frequently accepted host. We also found a positive response to artificial selection for increasing oviposition on the less preferred host; however, when the host-choice experiment involved two varieties of the usual host, the response was faster than when the choice involved usual and unusual hosts. Finally, beetles reared on an unusual host （chickpea） for 26 generations showed similar good fitness on both usual and unusual hosts, indicating that the use of a new host does not necessarily result in the loss of performance on the original host. Nevertheless, this population showed lower fitness on the usual host than that of the original population, suggesting an underlying partial trade-off phenomenon which may contribute to a broadening of diet of this insect species.

Termite colonies are usully headed by primary reproductives,which estab-listh nests during the swar ming ***,secondary reproductives may develop in some specics and become supplementary or replacement breeders,extending colony *** we investigate the developmental origin,fecundity and genetic characterizaion of ergatoid reproductives in the Neotropical termite Nasuitermes aquilinus(Holmgren),using morphometrical and histological techniques,five micosiallitle loci and the COI mitochondrial *** measurements performed on 208 apterous individuals of Nuauidius revealed 10 groups,including ergatoid females,which developed from major workers through two successive *** were characterized by the presence of imaginal features such as eyes andl wing *** difentiation of these features was correlated to physogastric development in these ergatoids,Histology revealed ooeytes in all matu-ration sages in worker-derived reproductives of N aquidinus,presence of nonflagellate spermatozoa inside the spermatheea,and royal fa ***,ergatoid reproduwetives were reproductively *** to the genotypes of 221 individuals from 11 nests,and mitochondrial haplotypes of 43 ergatoids,73%of the colomies were simple families,whereas 27%were extendbed *** the oecurenee of related reproductives,low inbreeding rates were detected within and among *** values could be explained given that sib mating itself cannot result in a higher inbreeding rate but depend on several factors discussed in *** is the first study to investigate the genetic structure of termite colonies influenced by the development of ergatoids and further investigations are encouraged 10 understand the inflwence of these reproductives on colony lifespan.

We aim to evaluate the quality of the Guanabara Bay sediments and the ecological changes due to the PeTROBRAS crude oil leak in January 2000. Twenty-six sediment samples collected in July 2000 and in February 2001 were analyzed for pH, dissolved oxygen, and foraminiferal composition. In the northwest and central parts of the bay, low oxygen dissolved values are related to waste discharges with the dominance of Buliminella elegantissima. In winter, near Iguaçu River, the pH of the sediment is low, therefore highly acidic. The acidity is responsible for the foraminiferal low diversity limiting the occurrence of species with fragile tests. On the other hand, thicker tests of elphidium spp. disappeared last, therefore increasing its relative dominance in winter. In summer, this is a barren zone. The explanation lies in the continuous dissolution of tests that culminated with the total disappearance of these microorganisms one year after the accident.

Tuning the defects in AgO Nanoparticles/Graphene Bilayers System by Laser Power density

The silver oxide nanoparticles （AgONps） used in this study was obtained by laser ablation technique. On the other hand, graphene bilayers were obtained through micro mechanic exfoliation. Both techniques are considered clean, simple and they have economic viability. The analyses have showed a positive charge in nanoparticles and alteration in Raman spectra caused by doping in the bilayer observing the appearing of D band. The alterations in the Raman spectrums are related with the introduced defects in the crystalline chain after the nanoparticles incorporation on bilayers. However, we have been doing a systematic study about the Raman laser output in only graphene bilayer and in graphene bilayer doped with nanoparticles. These measurements have shown a clear difference to both cases. The distance between defects has been showing to be inversely proportional to the ratio ID/I6 in the analyzed cases, increasing （up power） or lowering （down power） the incident laser output, with this it was possible to handle the defect distances in the case of AgO nanoparticles/graphene bilayers. Finally, we analyzed the ratio of the integrated area of D and G band, from these parameters are determined the defect density （ND） and the defects density （LD）. Thus, we clearly find a tuning between the ND and LD as a function of laser power density Raman using to λ = 532 nm.

Antarctic corals are known from the Upper Cretaceous Santa Marta Formation(Santonian–early Campanian)and Gamma Member(late Campanian)of Snow Hill Island Formation(late Campanian–early Maastrichtian)but they have not so far been taxonomically *** describe three corals taxa based on 29 specimens collected in 2007 and 2016 on James Ross Island(northeast of the Antarctic Peninsula).They represent the first formal record of scleractinian corals from the Santa Marta Formation,identified as Caryophylliidae *** Gamma Member of Snow Hill Island Formation,identified as Astreopora *** Fungiacyathus *** family Caryophylliidae and the genus Astreopora were not restricted to the Weddellian Biogeographic Province but the species Fungiacyathus deltoidophorus was endemic to Antarctica during the *** genus Fungiacyathus and the family Caryophylliidae thrive in Antarctica until the present *** occurred in shallower environments during the late Campanian than *** specimens related to Astreopora have yet to be found in Antarctica after the late *** can be explained by the capacity of Fungiacyathus and Caryophyllidae to endure cold waters,since they are asymbiotic *** symbiotic Astreopora sp.,due to its sensitivity to low temperatures,became extinct in this continent as soon as the Antarctic waters began to cool,around the Campanian/*** presence of Astreopora *** Gamma Member of Snow Hill Island Formation may represents the first occurrence of this genus in Antarctica and the oldest record of this genus in the Southern Hemisphere.

Quantifying Isotibolone in Raw Materials of Tibolone

Tibolone, a synthetic steroid, is used in the treatment of natural or surgical menopause disturbs resultant of estrogenic deficiency. Isotibolone (Δ4-tibolone) is one of the three active metabolic degradation products of tibolone that displays progestagenic effects on carcinoma cell growth and gene regulation. Isotibolone can be present in raw material of tibolone due to some inadequate synthesis or storage. Its presence is necessary to be identified and quantified in active pharmaceutical ingredients (API), before its use in the manufacturing of medicines. After a recent study on the crystal structure determination of isotibolone, quantitative phase analyses of both tibolone and isotibolone in raw materials and tablets became possible to be conducted. X-ray powder diffraction is one recommended tool for this purpose, but it can be highly frustrating due to the extreme peak overlap when conventional laboratory equipments are used. In this work we show that the use of Brazilian Synchrotron Light Source X-ray powder diffraction data and the Rietveld method can be successfully applied to identify and quantify the isotibolone in two samples of tibolone raw materials.

Background:With the rising global prevalence of fatty liver disease related to metabolic dysfunction,the association of this common liver condition with chronic kidney disease(CKD)has become increasingly *** 2020,the more inclusive term metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease(MAFLD)was proposed to replace the term non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD).The observed association between MAFLD and CKD and our understanding that CKD can be a consequence of underlying metabolic dysfunction support the notion that individuals with MAFLD are at higher risk of having and developing CKD compared with those without ***,to date,there is no appropriate guidance on CKD in individuals with ***,there has been little attention paid to the link between MAFLD and CKD in the Nephrology *** and Results:Using a delphi-based approach,a multidisciplinary panel of 50 international experts from 26 countries reached a consensus on some of the open research questions regarding the link between MAFLD and ***:This delphi-based consensus statement provided guidance on the epidemiology,mechanisms,management and treatment of MAFLD and CKD,as well as the relationship between the severity of MAFLD and risk of CKD,which establish a framework for the early prevention and management of these two common and interconnected diseases.
