Quality assessment of systematic reviews assessing the effects of traditional Chinese exercises in the control of diabetes mellitus

Objective:To assess the quality of systematic reviews assessing the effects of traditional Chinese exercises on controlling blood indices,anthropometric indices,psychological indices,and quality of life in patients with ***:Systematic studies/meta-analyses of intervention with traditional Chinese exercises on diabetes mellitus were searched in the Pub Med,Web of Science,the China National Knowledge Infrastructure Databases(CNKI),Wan Fang Database,and Chinese Scientific Journal Database(VIP).Two researchers independently screened the studies and extracted the *** methodology and quality of evidence of the included studies were assessed using A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews2(AMSTAR-2)and Grading of Recommendations Assessment,Development and Evaluation(GRADE)criteria,***:A total of 32 systematic reviews/meta-analyses were included in the present *** them,the methodological quality of 4 studies was graded as low,while that of the other 28 was graded as extremely *** most common quality flaws in key items included a lack of preliminary proposals for systematic reviews,failure to explain the reasons for the inclusion criteria,failure to provide a list of excluded studies and reasons for exclusion,failure to report potential conflicts of interest,and inadequate assessment of publication *** quality of evidence for most of the 18 outcomes was subsequently graded as medium or ***,the results of these studies indicated that Tai Chi,health qigong,and other traditional Chinese exercises lowered fasting blood glucose(FBG),2-h postprandial blood glucose(2hPBG),hemoglobin A_(1c)(HbA_(1c)),and body mass index,and relieved anxiety and depression in patients with ***:Our findings indicate that the methodological quality of systematic reviews related to traditional Chinese exercises in the diabetic population is generally low,and the quality of evidence is also relatively ***,we suggest

Validation of the functional rating index for the assessment of athletes with neck pain

AIM: To validate the culturally-adapted Persian Functional Rating Index(PFRI) for assessing neck pain(NP) in athletes. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 100 athletes with NP and 50 healthy athletes participated and responded to the PFRI. Fifty athletes with NP completed the PFRI for at least 7 d later to establish test-retest reliability. RESULTS: The athletes with NP responded to all items, indicating excellent clinical utility. No floor and ceiling effects were found, indicating content validity and responsiveness. The PFRI revealed capability to discriminate between the athletes with NP and healthy athletes. The PFRI demonstrated strong correlation with the Numerical Rating Scale(Spearman's rho = 0.94), and the Persian Neck Disability Index(Pearson r = 0.995), supporting criterion and construct validity. Internal consistency reliability was high(Cronbach's α coefficient: 0.97). The test-retest reliability was excellent(ICCagreement = 0.96). The absolute reliability values of standard error of measurement and smallest detectable change were 3.2 and 8.84, respectively. An exploratory factor analysis yielded one factor explaining 78.03% of the total variance. CONCLUSION: The PFRI is a valid and reliable measure of functional status in athletes with NP.

BACKGROUND Conventional Billroth Ⅱ(BⅡ) anastomosis after laparoscopic distal gastrectomy(LDG) for gastric cancer(GC) is associated with bile reflux gastritis, and Roux-enY anastomosis is associated with Roux-Y stasis syndrome(RSS). The uncut Rouxen-Y(URY) gastrojejunostomy reduces these complications by blocking the entry of bile and pancreatic juice into the residual stomach and preserving the impulse originating from the duodenum, while BⅡ with Braun(BB) anastomosis reduces the postoperative biliary reflux without RSS. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy and safety of laparoscopic URY with BB anastomosis in patients with GC who underwent radical distal *** To evaluate the value of URY in patients with *** PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang, Chinese Biomedical Database, and VIP Database for Chinese Technical Periodicals(VIP) were used to search relevant studies published from January 1994 to August 18, 2021. The following databases were also used in our search: ***, Data Archiving and Networked Services, the World Health Organization International Clinical Trials Registry Platform Search Portal(https://***/clinical-trials-registry-platform/the-ictrp-search-portal), the reference lists of articles and relevant conference proceedings in August 2021. Effects of Tai Chi and Qigong on health indicators in people with lumbar disc herniation: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Objective: To evaluate the effect of Tai Chi and Qigong on patients with lumbar disc herniation (LDH). Methods: Relevant data were retrieved from nine English and Chinese databases, including Cochrane Library, PubMed, and Wanfang Data, from inception to June 2024. All published randomized controlled trials assessing the effect of Tai Chi and Qigong on visual analog scale (VAS) pain, Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) score, and other health indicators in participants with LDH compared to usual medical care or other treatments were included. Grey literature, trials involving the pushing of hands (Tui Shou) or Tai Chi with weapons, and trials with co-interventions (Tai Chi/Qigong plus another treatment) were excluded. Methodological quality was analyzed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool, and evidence quality was assessed using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluations (GRADE) tool. Meta-analyses were conducted using Stata 16.0 software. Results: Fourteen trials (954 patients) were included in this study. Tai Chi and Qigong were associated with lower VAS pain scores (standardized mean difference −0.55, 95% confidence interval [CI] −0.95 to −0.15, P =.01), higher JOA scores (mean difference [MD] 4.40, 95% CI 2.62 to 6.18, P evidence, the results of current study should be interpreted cautiously. © 2024 Beijing University of Chinese medicine

Background:The burden of kidney,bladder,and prostate cancers has changed in recent *** study aims to investigate the global and regional burden of,and attributable risk factors for genitourinary cancers during the past 30 ***:We extracted data of kidney,bladder,and prostate cancers from the Global Burden of Disease 2019 database,including incidence,mortality,disability-adjusted life-years(DALYs),and attributable risk factors from 1990 to *** annual percentage changes(EAPC)were calculated to assess the changes in age-standardized incidence rate,age-standardized mortality rate(ASMR),and age-standardized DALYs rate(ASDR).The associations between cancers burden and socio-demographic index(SDI)were also ***:Compared with 1990,the global incident cases in 2019 were higher by 154.78%,123.34%,and 169.11%for kidney,bladder,and prostate cancers,*** the 30-year study period,there was a downward trend in ASMR and ASDR for bladder cancer(EAPC=–0.68 and–0.83,respectively)and prostate cancer(EAPC=–0.75 and–0.71,respectively),but an upward trend for kidney cancer(EAPC=0.35 and 0.12,respectively).Regions and countries with higher SDI had higher incidence,mortality,and DALYs for all three types of *** burden of bladder and prostate cancers was mainly distributed among older men,whereas the burden of kidney cancer increased among middle-aged *** related mortality and DALYs decreased,but high body mass index(BMI)and high fasting plasma glucose(FPG)related mortality and DALYs increased among kidney,bladder,and prostate cancers during the study ***:Kidney,bladder,and prostate cancers remain major global public health challenges,but with distinct trend for different disease entity across different regions and socioeconomic *** proactive intervention strategies,at both the administrative and academic levels,based on the dynamic changes,are needed.

Objective: To identify and synthesize the most recent available evidence of effectiveness of acupuncture on pain, physical function and health-related quality of life(HRQoL) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis(RA). Methods: A comprehensive search of 12 Western and Chinese databases was undertaken from their inception up to end of 2016. Randomized controlled trials(RCTs), concerning patients with RA treated with needle acupuncture, written in English, Portuguese, German or Chinese were included. Primary outcomes included pain, physical function and HRQoL. Secondary outcomes included morning stiffness, functional impairment, number of tender and swollen joints and serum concentrations of inflamatory markers. Methodological quality was assessed by three independent reviewers using the standardized critical appraisal instrument from the Joanna Briggs Institute Meta-Analysis of Statistics Assessment and Review Instrument. Results: Twenty-two studies met the inclusion criteria. Of those, 9 studies were excluded after assessment of their methodological quality. The remaining 13 original RCTs included 974 patients. Ten of these studies published in China, showed favorable statistical significant effects of acupuncture in relieving symptoms of RA compared with controls. Conclusions: evidence suggests that acupuncture interventions may have a positive effect in pain relief, physical function and HRQo L in RA patients. However, due to the heterogeneity and methodologic limitations of the studies included in this systematic review, evidence is not strong enough to produce a best practice guideline.

Effect of Health Education based on Integrative Therapy of Chinese and Western medicine for Adult Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus： A Randomized Controlled Study

Objective： To investigate the effects of health education based on integrative therapy of Chinese and Western medicine for type 2 diabetes mellitus（T2DM） from the aspects of knowledge, attitude and practice（KAP）, health-related quality of life（HRQo L）, body mass index（BMI） and glucose control. Methods： Patients were individually randomized into intervention group（receiving integrative education, n=120） and control group（receiving usual education, n=120）. The primary outcome was the changes in glycosylated hemoglobin A1c（HbA1c） levels after 3, 6, 9 and 12 months from baseline. Hierarchical linear models（HLMs） were used to assess within-group changes in outcomes over time and between-group differences in patterns of change. Secondary outcomes were KAP scores, HRQo L scores and BMI after 6 and 12 months, paired-sample t test was used to assess within-group changes in outcomes in 6 and 12 months, independent-sample t test was used to assess between-group differences in patterns of change. Results： HbA1c decreased statistically from baseline to 3 months, from 3 to 6 months, from 6 to 9 months and from 9 to 12 months in the intervention group（all P〈0.01）; and decreased significantly from baseline to 3 months, and from 3 to 6 months in the control group（P〈0.01）. There were significant between-group differences from baseline to 3 months（P=0.044）, from 6 to 9 months（P〈0.01） and from 9 to 12 months（P〈0.01）. Significant improvements in the intervention group along with significant between-group differences were found in KAP and HRQo L scores respectively（all P〈0.05）. The number in the intervention group of normal weight increased from 56 at baseline to 81（6 months）, 94（12 months）, the number in the control group were 63（baseline）, 69（6 months）, 70（12 months）, the χ~2 of hierarchical analysis of BMI were 6.93（P=0.075）, 10.31（P=0.016）, 15.53（P〈0.01）, respectively. Objective: To summarize clinical evidence of traditional Chinese medicine for the prevention and treatment of chronic heart failure systematically and comprehensively. Method:By retrieving in the database of VIP, WanFang, CNKI, PubMed, Cochrane Library, the qualifying results obtained in the databases above are summarized into the grading evidence including systematic reviews, randomized controlled trials, observational studies, case studies, basic research these five levels. Results: The numbers of the articles included are 12 systematic reviews, 413 randomized controlled trials, 68 observational studies, 15 case reports and 187 fundamental researches. Conclusion: It is concluded that basing on the clinical evidence of different levels, traditional Chinese medicine has prominent ability of preventing and treatment chronic heart failure.

Effect of Aidi injection plus chemotherapy on gastric carcinoma:a Meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

OBJECTIVE: To conduct a Meta-analysis of studies on the effect of Aidi injectioncombined with chemotherapy versus chemotherapy alone in the treatment of gastric cancer(GC).METHODS: Nine electronic databases and six gray literature databases were comprehensively searcheduntil April 20,2013. Two reviewers independently selected and assessed included trialsaccording to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The risk of bias tool from the Cochrane Handbook version 5.1.0was used to assess trial quality. All calculations were performed using Review Manager ***: Thirty-two studies including 1927 participants met the inclusion criteria,most of which were low quality. Compared with chemotherapy alone,Aidi injection plusthe same chemotherapy significantly improved the effective rate [OR = 1.52,95% CI(1.24,1.86),P < 0.0001],clinical beneficial rate [OR = 1.77,95% CI(1.33,2.36),P < 0.0001],and quality of life [OR = 3.02,95% CI(2.39,3.82),P <0.000 01]. There was a significant improvement in nausea and vomiting incidence [OR = 0.34,95%CI(0.24,0.47),P < 0.000 01],diarrhea [OR = 0.47,95%CI(0.33,0.69),P < 0.000 01],leukopenia( 3,0.51),P = 0.05],hemⅢ-ogⅣ)[OR = 0.34,95%CI(0.2lobin decrease(thromⅢ-boⅣ) [OR = 0.42,95%CI(0.18-1.00),P = 0.05],cytopenia(4],and Ⅲ-damⅣ) [OR = 0.46,95%CI(0.22,0.96),P = 0.0age to liver function [OR = 0.36,95%CI(0.24,0.54),P < 0.000 01].CONCLUSION: Aidi injection combined with chemotherapy significantly improved the clinical effect of chemotherapy,reducing the incidence of adverse events. Use of the CONSORT statement for randomized controlled trials is recommended for stricter reporting.
