Functional foods,namely as natural or processed foods containing bioactive compounds,can provide health-promoting effects beyond basic nutrition,or offer the prevention or supplementary treatment of chronic *** bioactive components in functional foods usually have pleiotropic effects,including antioxidant,anti-inflammatory,hypolipidemic,glycemic-regulating,cytoprotective,and neuroprotective *** is one of the highly conserved cellular processes for the clearance of aberrant components in eukaryotic cells,and plays an essential role in health promotion and prevention and treatment of a series of chronic *** the cells are in the stress environment,the induced autophagy will accelerate the clearance of cellular damaged or toxic protein aggregates or dysfunctional cellular organelles to maintain homeostasis in *** this article,we summarize several widely investigated bioactive components used as functional foods,such as resveratrol,epigallocatechin-3-gallate,curcumin and trehalose,with the regulatory function for autophagy during the intervention of chronic diseases,which will provide the references or novel thoughts for the development of functional foods with the modulation of autophagy.

BACKGROUND Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH) has become one of the leading causes of liver disease in the western world. In obese patients weight reduction is recommended. Up to now there are no specific guidelines for weight loss in order to reduce hepatic fat *** To investigate the effects of a 24-wk guided lifestyle intervention program compared to a meal replacement regimen based on soy *** Twenty-six subjects with NASH participated in a randomized single-center study. They were randomly assigned to either meal replacement group(MR-G)with soy-yogurt-honey preparation or to guided lifestyle change group(LC-G)with endurance activity and nutrition counselling. Serum alanine transaminase(ALT), aspartate transaminase(AST), lipid parameters, and adipokines were measured. Liver fat content and lipid composition were determined by magnetic resonance imaging and magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Body fat mass and lean body mass were assessed using Bod Pod? device. Pre-and post-intervention monitoring of parameters was performed. Statistical analyses were conducted with SPSS software, results were expressed as median(interquartile range).RESULTS Twenty-two subjects(MR-G, n = 11 and LC-G, n = 11) completed the study(9 women, 13 men; age 52.1(15.0) years, body mass index(BMI) 32.3(3.3) kg/m^2).In both groups a significant weight loss was achieved(MR-G:-6.4(3.6) kg, P <0.01; LC-G:-9.1(10.4) kg, P < 0.01). BMI dropped in both groups(MR-G:-2.3(1.5)kg/m^2, P = 0.003; LC-G:-3.0(3.4) kg/m^2, P = 0.006). Internal fat and hepatic lipid content were markedly reduced in both groups in comparable amount. Competitive diving is a popular sport that attracts numerous participants worldwide;unfortunately,competitive divers experience a notable frequency of injuries during training and *** this,injuries in diving often received less attention compared to those in other aquatic *** purpose of this study was to conduct a systematic review to update the scientific evidence on injury incidence in competitive divers to offer insights into the prevalent injury patterns and help develop injury prevention *** involved analyzing injury data collected from the Injury Surveillance Programme(ISP)across various levels of competition events and assessing case reports involving a wide spectrum of diving *** online bibliographical databases were consulted:Google Scholar,PubMed,Scops,and Web of Science from their inception until December 6,2023.819 studies were initially identified,and 15 studies were finally included in this *** Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses(PRISM)guidelines and PRISMA in exercise,Rehabilitation,Sport medicine,and Sport Science(PERSiST)were *** independent reviewers evaluated the methodological quality of the *** majority of diving injuries are concentrated on the upper body/trunk,including the shoulder,spine,hand/wrist,head/face,and neck,with overuse injury being a main *** diving incidence,the actual injury rate in competitive athletes could be even higher than currently reported,primarily due to limitations in implementing injury surveillance protocol for diving *** latest injury data for diving in big competition events is absent,and there is a strong expectation for more new injury surveillance data to be published in the ***,the specific injury pattern,prevention strategy,and rehabilitation training plan for diving injury are severely deficient in the current literature.

To investigate the effect of a low-FODMAP diet on irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)-like symptoms in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).METHODSThis was a randomised controlled open-label trial of patients with IBD in remission or with mild-to-moderate disease and coexisting IBS-like symptoms (Rome III) randomly assigned to a Low-FODMAP diet (LFD) or a normal diet (ND) for 6 wk between June 2012 and December 2013. Patients completed the IBS symptom severity system (IBS-SSS) and short IBD quality of life questionnaire (SIBDQ) at weeks 0 and 6. The primary end-point was response rates (at least 50-point reduction) in IBS-SSS at week 6 between groups; secondary end-point was the impact on quality of ***-nine patients, 67 (75%) women, median age 40, range 20-70 years were randomised: 44 to LFD group and 45 to ND, from which 78 patients completed the study period and were included in the final analysis (37 LFD and 41 ND). There was a significantly larger proportion of responders in the LFD group (n = 30, 81%) than in the ND group (n = 19, 46%); (OR = 5.30; 95%CI: 1.81-15.55, P < 0.01). At week 6, the LFD group showed a significantly lower median IBS-SSS (median 115; inter-quartile range [IQR] 33-169) than ND group (median 170, IQR 91-288), P = 0.02. Furthermore, the LFD group had a significantly greater increase in SIBDQ (median 60, IQR 51-65) than the ND group (median 50, IQR 39-60), P < *** a prospective study, a low-FODMAP diet reduced IBS-like symptoms and increased quality of life in patients with IBD in remission.

AIM To examine the effect of combined exercise on colonic transit time(CTT) in admitted psychiatric patients. METHODS Over a 6-mo period, consecutive in patients with mental illness were recruited from the Somang Hospital Psychiatry Unit. A combined exercise program that included 60 min per day of exercise 3 d per week for 12 wk was performed. Physical fitness and CTT of the patients were measured twice before and twice after the exercise program. CTT was measured using a multiple marker technique with a radio-opaque marker. Changes in the exercising patients' CTT and weight-,cardiovascular-and fitness-related parameters were statistically *** After the 12-wk combined exercise intervention, decreased intestinal transit time was observed in all CTTs of the exercise group, including the right CTT(exercise: 15.6 ± 15.2 vs 9.2 ± 11.9, control: 13.1 ± 10.4 vs 10.9 ± 18.7), left CTT(exercise: 19.7 ± 23.5 vs 10.4 ± 13.2, control: 19.2 ± 19.0 vs 16.9 ± 19.8), recto-sigmoid CTT(exercise: 14.3 ± 16.7 vs 6.7 ± 7.9, control: 15.0 ± 14.4 vs 19.3 ± 30.3), and total colonic transit time(TCTT)(exercise: 50.2 ± 38.1 vs 27.1 ± 28.0, control: 47.4 ± 34.6 vs 47.3 ± 47.3). After the 12-wk combined exercise period, TCTT was significantly shortened in the exercise group compared with that in the control group. In addition to eating habits, water intake, and fiber intake, the increased physical activity level as a result of the 12-wk combined exercise program reduced the CTT.
