Chinese Assam tea(Camellia sinensis ***)is an important tea crop with a long history of cultivation in Yunnan,*** its potential value as a genetic resource,its genetic diversity and domestication/breeding history remain *** address this issue,we genotyped 469 ancient tea plant trees representing 26 *** *** populations,plus two of its wild relatives(six and three populations of *** and ***,respectively)using 16 nuclear microsatellite *** showed that Chinese Assam tea has a relatively high,but comparatively lower gene diversity(H_(S)=0.638)than the wild relative ***(H_S=0.658).Clustering in STRUCTURE indicated that Chinese Assam tea and its two wild relatives formed distinct genetic groups,with considerable interspecific *** Chinese Assam tea accessions clustered into three gene pools,corresponding well with their geographic ***,New Hybrids analysis indicated that 68.48%of ancient Chinese Assam tea plants from Xishuangbanna were genetic intermediates between the Puer and Lincang gene *** addition,10%of the ancient Chinese Assam tea individuals were found to be hybrids between Chinese Assam tea and *** results suggest that Chinese Assam tea was domesticated separately in three gene pools(Puer,Lincang and Xishuangbanna)in the Mekong River valley and that the hybrids were subsequently selected during the domestication *** the domestication history of Chinese Assam tea in southwestern Yunnan remains complex,our results will help to identify valuable genetic resources that may be useful in future tea breeding programs.

In this paper,we assess the role of investment in research and development(R&D)and economic policy uncertainty(EPU)in sri lanka’s economic growth *** do this by first determining which endogenous growth theories best explain the evolution of total factor productivity(TFP)in the *** historical time series data(1980–2018),we find that semi-endogenous growth theories best explain the evolution of TFP in sri *** evidence suggests that R&D is critical to the country’s TFP *** find that,through R&D,EPU has a crucial detrimental impact on TFP growth,although it is *** findings are robust and have important implications for R&D investment and for moderating EPU.

Background Cystatin C(Cys-C)is an emerging biomarker of renal diseases and its clinical use,particularly for screening the communities affected by chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology(CKDu),is hindered due to the lack of reference intervals(RIs)for diverse ethnic and age *** present study aimed to define RIs for urinary Cys-C(uCys-C)for a healthy pediatric population in sri lanka and in turn compare the renal function of the residential children in CKDu endemic and non-endemic regions in sri *** A cross-sectional study was conducted with 850 healthy children(10-17 years)from selected locations for reference interval establishment,while a total of 892 children were recruited for the comparative *** samples were collected and analyzed for Cys-C,creatinine(Cr)and ***-adjusted uCys-C levels were partitioned by age,and RIs were determined with quantile regression(2.5th,50th and 97.5th quantiles)at 90%confidence *** The range of median RIs for uCys-C in healthy children was 45.94-64.44 ng/mg Cr for boys and 53.58-69.97 ng/mg Cr for *** median(interquartile range)uCys-C levels of children in the CKDu endemic and non-endemic regions were 58.18(21.8-141.9)and 58.31(23.9-155.3)ng/mg Cr with no significant difference(P=0.781).A significant variation of uCys-C was noted in the children across *** Notably high uCys-C levels were observed in children with elevated ***,uCys-C could be a potential biomarker in identifying communities at high risk of CKDu susceptibility.

Long Term Salinity Stress Reveals Variety Specific Differences in Root Oxidative Stress Response

Salinity stress induces oxidative stress caused by reactive oxygen species （ROS）： superoxide radicals, hydrogen peroxide （H2O2） and hydroxyl radicals. Activities of both enzymatic and non-enzymatic components of the antioxidant system and related growth parameters were studied in the roots of the salt tolerant rice variety FL478 and the sensitive variety IR29 in response to long term stress （12 d）induced by 50 mmol/L NaCI. The comparative study showed that FL478 maintained higher relative growth rate and lower Na＋/K＋ in the roots than IR29 due to a higher membrane stability index that effectively exclude Na＋. Lower TBARS （thiobarbituric acid reactive substance） content in FL478 roots indicated that its membrane was relatively unaffected by ROS despite high H2O2 content recorded under the salinity stress. Relatively higher superoxide dismutase activity along with a parallel increase in transcript level of superoxide dismutase （Os07g46990） in FL478 indicated that this protein might make a vital contribution to salt stress tolerance. Although the content of ascorbic acid remained unchanged in FL478, the activity of ascorbic peroxidases （APOXs） was reduced comparably in the both varieties. Transcriptomic data showed that a larger number of peroxidase genes were upregulated in FL478 compared to IR29 and several of which might provide engineering targets to improve rice salt tolerance.

Sex ratio in animals has profound impacts on the fitness of mothers and their *** the local competition intensity is sex-specific,selection favors the sex that may mitigate such negative impacts(West 2009).This may occur under 1)local mate competition(LMC)-in a discrete population established by one or a few foundresses,they tend to produce female-biased offspring sex ratio to reduce the LMC between related males(Hamilton 1967);2)local resource competition(LRC)-in a dense population where related individuals compete for resources,mothers are selected to produce more off spring of dispersive sex to decrease resource competition(Clark 1978;Wild and Taylor 2004;Iritani et al.2021),and 3)local resource enhancement(LRE)-when one sex helps one another rather than compete with one another,selection favors an excess production of the more helpful sex(Taylor 1981).

Irrational irrigation practices in the Arys Turkestan Canal command area in the southern part of Kazakhstan have led to the formation of soils with poor physical and chemical properties. To study whether irrigation and leaching practices and/or groundwater rise have contributed to the accumulation of Mg2+ on the cation exchange complex of these soils, historical changes in soil and groundwater quality were used as source data and the Visual MINTEQ model was applied to analyze the chemical composition of water and soils in the study area. The imposed irrigation regime and the leaching of light sierosem soils led to the dissolution and subsequent leaching of inherent gypsum and organic matter from the soil profile. Further, the domination of bicarbonate in the irrigation water promoted weathering of the carbonate minerals present as calcite. The higher concentrations of Mg2+ in comparison to Ca2+ in the irrigation water resulted in the replacement of Na+ by Mg2+ on the cation exchange complex. In the lower part of the command area, shallow groundwater has contributed to the accumulation of Na+ and to a large extent of Mg2+ on the cation exchange sites.

Microfinance and Shelter: An Impact Assessment of Microfinance on Improving Housing Conditions of Rural sri lanka

This paper examines the impact of microfinance(MF)programmes on improving the shelter conditions of beneficiary households of Southern Province in sri *** ownership of conditional house is one of key indicators measure fulfilling the basic needs of a household on the one hand and healthiness of it on the *** study is based on the data and information gathered from a sample survey of 405 microfinance recipients of four national level leading Microfinance Institutions(MFIs)in sri lanka for *** include:Thrift and Credit Cooperative Societies(TCCSs),Samurdhi banking Societies(SBSs),Ruhuna Development bank(RDB),and Sarvodaya Economic Enterprise Development Societies(SEEDS).For analysis purpose,a comparison group has been selected from the existing MF recipients whose membership duration with microfinance(MF)is not longer than one year to compare their shelter status with that of existing MF recipients whose membership duration with MF programmes is longer than one *** indicators:size of living space,conditions of the house,and current market value of a dwelling house are used for assessing the *** on the data analysis,the study found that Microfinance has benefited the Borrowing Households(BHHs)to improve their shelter status in terms of all the indicators of housing conditions(except roof condition),size of living space,and market value of a dwelling house.
