Large-scale permafrost degradation as a primary factor in Larix sibirica forest dieback in the Khentii massif,northern Mongolia

The objective of this study is to investigate the potential causes of widespread Larix sibirica *** observed in the Khentii massif of northern *** ratio of deadwood to living trees in affected stands in the Goricho region,the southernmost study site situated close to the Gobi Desert,was as high as 3.6:*** fluctuations monitored over 2 years using electrical impedance spectrometry revealed that the Goricho study site had higher soil moisture levels than the two less affected sites Barun Bayan and Dzun *** soil moisture was recorded in an area characterized by highly skeletal soils,ones with more than 35%by volume of rock fragments,and comparatively shallow soil horizons,from valley to *** layer of permafrost influencing hydrogeological processes is much deeper in the Goricho region compared to the undisturbed study *** analysis confirmed a significant number of dead *** on sites with developed *** forest stands,however damaged,grow in this region on well-drained scree slopes or on rocky *** mass mortality observed for *** may be directly linked to accelerated permafrost thaw in the area bordered by the Tuul and the Terelj *** assumption is that *** root system necrosis occurred as a result of long-term waterlogging of developed soils with high spatial heterogeneity,normally able to absorb high quantities of *** areas unaffected were scree fields and rocky bastions characterized by adequate *** of our findings support the primary stages of large-scale permafrost thaw,i.e.,correlating increases in soil moisture with increasing permafrost active layer thickness.

Comparison of the effects of different protocols on the particle size distribution of TiO_2 dispersions

There is a need to standardize methods associated with the dispersion of nanomaterials in nano（eco）toxicological investigations. The first step toward this goal is to understand the degree of variability that exists in nanomaterial dispersions prepared by using different protocols. Using two case studies, the degree of variability in TiO2 nanomaterial dispersions was assessed by differential centrifugal sedimentation （DCS） methods. Case study 1 addresses the variability that arises from variations within one protocol, investigating the effects of dispersion aging, sonication exposure time, sonication in the presence/absence of an ice bath, material subsampling, particle concentration and having a pre-wetting step. Case study 2 addresses the variability between four different protocols developed through past research activities and projects. The results indicate that there is a large degree of variability （relative standard deviation （RSD） of mean particle diameter = 26%） in the dispersion ofTiO2 nanornaterials between the four different protocols studied and that several steps in a dispersion protocol are potential sources of variation, with final particle concentration being the most significant. The implication of this study is clear： for the purpose of data comparability, there is a need to provide the exact details of all steps involved in a dispersion protocol.

Lanthanide-doped upconversion nanocrystals(UCNCs)have recently become an attractive nonlinear fluorescence material for use in bioimaging because of their tunable spectral characteristics and exceptional *** materials are often introduced into the vicinity of UCNCs to increase their emission intensity by means of enlarging the absorption cross-section and accelerating the radiative decay ***,plasmonic nanostructures(e.g.,gold nanorods,GNRs)can also influence the polarization state of the UC fluorescence—an effect that is of fundamental importance for fluorescence polarization-based imaging methods yet has not been discussed *** study this effect,we synthesized GNR@SiO_(2)@CaF2:Yb^(3+),Er^(3+)hybrid core–shell–satellite nanostructures with precise control over the thickness of the SiO_(2) *** evaluated the shell thicknessdependent plasmonic enhancement of the emission intensity in ensemble and studied the plasmonic modulation of the emission polarization at the single-particle *** hybrid plasmonic UC nanostructures with an optimal shell thickness exhibit an improved bioimaging performance compared with bare UCNCs,and we observed a polarized nature of the light at both UC emission bands,which stems from the relationship between the excitation polarization and GNR *** used electrodynamic simulations combined with Förster resonance energy transfer theory to fully explain the observed *** results provide extensive insights into how the coherent interaction between the emission dipoles of UCNCs and the plasmonic dipoles of the GNR determines the emission polarization state in various situations and thus open the way to the accurate control of the UC emission anisotropy for a wide range of bioimaging and biosensing applications.

Availability-based simulation and optimization modeling framework for open-pit mine truck allocation under dynamic constraints

We present a novel system productivity simulation and optimization modeling framework in which equipment availability is a variable in the expected productivity function of the system. The framework is used for allocating trucks by route according to their operating performances in a truck-shovel system of an open-pit mine, so as to maximize the overall productivity of the fleet. We implement the framework in an originally designed and specifically developed simulator-optimizer software tool. We make an application on a real open-pit mine case study taking into account the stochasticity of the equipment behavior and environment. The total system production values obtained with and without considering the equipment reliability, availability and maintainability (RAM) characteristics are compared. We show that by taking into account the truck and shovel RAM aspects, we can maximize the total production of the system and obtain specific information on the production availability and productivity of its components.

Chrononutrition in traditional european medicine-Ideal meal timing for cardiometabolic health promotion

Meal timing plays a crucial role for cardiometabolic health,given the circadian regulation of cardiometabolic ***,to the best of our knowledge,no concept of meal timing exists in traditional european medicine(TEM).Therefore,in this narrative review,we aim to define the optimal time slot for energy intake and optimal energy distribution throughout the day in a context of TEM and explore further *** reviewing literature published between 2002 and 2022,we found that optimal timing for energy intake may be between 06:00 and 09:00,12:00 and 14:00,and between 15:00 and18:00,with high energy breakfast,medium energy lunch and low energy dinner and possibly further adjustments according to one’s chronotype and ***,timing and distribution of energy intake may serve as a novel therapeutic strategy to optimize coction,a concept describing digestion and metabolism in TEM.

The Grammaticalization and Lexicalization of Space Deixis:A cross-linguistic analysis

Space deixis is concerned with the specification of location in space relative to that of the participants at coding time in a speech event. Cross-linguistically, it is commonly expressed by the use of (i) demonstratives including both demonstrative pronouns and demonstrative adjectives, (ii) deictic adverbs of space, (iii) deictically marked third-person pronouns, and (iv) deictic directionals including both motion affixes, morphemes and particles, and motion verbs. In this article, I shall provide a descriptive analysis of the grammaticalization and lexicalization of space deixis. Data is drawn from a wide variety of genetically unrelated and structurally distinct languages to show the diversity and richness of spatial deictic systems in the world’s languages.

Anti-angiogenic drugs in cancer therapeutics:a review of the latest preclinical and clinical studies of anti-angiogenic agents with anticancer potential

Cancer is a group of diseases with significant morbidity and *** cancer cells,where energy requirements are exceptionally high,angiogenesis,which is the sprouting of new blood vessels from pre-existing ones,is an important process for tumour survival and ***,extensive research in recent years focuses on the discovery of new anticancer drugs that target *** methodologies have been developed preclinically,including the inhibition of pro-angiogenic factors and their receptors via micromolecular agents or monoclonal antibodies and the inhibition of other compensatory pathways beyond the traditional angiogenic *** purpose of the literature review is to present new anticancer drugs that target the process of angiogenesis and have been under preclinical or clinical investigation during the last five *** new anticancer drugs targeting angiogenesis are identified in the *** results of the in vitro and in vivo evaluation of these drugs show that,apart from inhibiting angiogenesis,they also affect cancer cell proliferation and tumour *** clinical studies show that these drugs increase the overall or disease-free survival of patients,even those with persistent,chemotherapy-resistant and metastatic types of cancer,although treatment-related side effects are not *** that target the process of angiogenesis are likely to be the future of anticancer therapy,especially in cases where more traditional treatments do not produce the desired results and where combination regimens of anti-angiogenic agents with standard chemotherapeutics increase patient survival.
