The United Nations Secretary-General Mechanism(UNSGM)for investigation of the alleged use of chemical and biological weapons is the only established international mechanism of this type under the *** UNGSM may launch an international investigation,relying on a roster of expert consultants,qualified experts,and analytical laboratories nominated by the member *** the framework of the UNSGM,we organized an external quality assurance exercise for nominated laboratories,named the disease X Test,to improve the ability to discover and identify new pathogens that may cause possible epidemics and to determine their animal ***“what-if”scenario was to identify the etiological agent responsible for an outbreak that has tested negative for many known pathogens,including viruses and *** microbes were added to the samples,Dabie bandavirus,Mammarenavirus,and Gemella spp.,of which the last two have not been taxonomically named or *** animal samples were from Rattus norvegicus,Marmota himalayana,New Zealand white rabbit,and the tick Haemaphysalis *** the 11 international laboratories that participated in this activity,six accurately identified pathogen X as a new Mammarenavirus,and five correctly identified the animal origin as *** results showed that many laboratories under the UNSGM have the capacity and ability to identify a new virus during a possible international investigation of a suspected biological *** technical details are discussed in this report.

Metabolic syndrome （MetS） is a serious threat to public health worldwide with an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and all-cause morbidity and mortality. In this study, a urinary metabolomic approach was performed on high performance liquid chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry to discriminate 36 male MetS patients and 36 sex and age matched healthy controls. Pattern recognition analyses （principal component analysis and orthogonal projections to latent structures discriminate analysis） commonly demonstrated the difference between MetS patients and no-MetS subjects. This study found 8 metabolites that showed significant changes in patients with MetS, including branch-chain and aromatic amino acids （leucine, tyrosine, phenylalanine and tryptophan）, short-chain acylcanitine （tiglylcamitine）, tricarboxylic acid （TCA） cycle intermediate （cis-aconitic acid） and glucuronidated products （cortolone-3-glucuronide and tetrahydroaldoster- one-3-glucuronide）. The candidate biomarkers revealed in this study could be useful in providing clues for further research focusing on the in-depth investigation of the cause of and cure for MetS.

Indoor particle release from toner printing equipment (TPE) is a major health concern and has received wide *** this study,nine printing centers were randomly selected and three working phases were simulated,namely,non-working,normal printing/copying,and heavy printing/*** dynamics of the ozone (O_(3)),volatile organic compound (VOC),and particle emissions from TPE were determined by portable *** showed that particles,VOCs,and O_(3)were indeed discharged,and particles and VOCs concentrations remained at high *** them,44%of the rooms represented high-level particle ***-sized particles,especially nanoparticles,were positively correlated with VOCs,but were inversely proportional to the O_(3)*** elements,Ca,Al,Mg and Ni,were usually present in nanoparticles because of the discharge of ***,Al,K,Ni and Pb were found in the submicrometer-sized particles and were consistent with the toner *** potential particle precursors were identified,which suggested that styrene was the most likely secondary organic aerosol (SOA) ***,the use of the toner formulation and the discharge of paper attribute to the TPE-emitted particles,in which styrene is a specific monitoring indicator for the formation of SOA.

Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase(Td T) has been characterized as template-independent polymerase using single-stranded DNA(ss DNA) as primers to generate random oligonucleotides. However, the extension performance of Td T to single-stranded RNA(ss RNA) is vague. By systematically comparing and contrasting the performance of Td T-catalyzed ss DNA and ss RNA extension, it is indicated that the catalytic efficiency of ss RNA as primers was about 3 times lower than ss DNA as primers. Collectively, it is believed that understanding the catalytic performance of Td T will help to design the strategy to synthesize chimeric DNA on 3-OH of ss RNA, which becomes invaluable.

In 2014, China experienced the worst outbreak of dengue fever in the last decade with over 40,000 dengue cases including six deaths by the end of October. As one of the ＂neglected＂ tropical diseases, dengue is affecting substantially increasing number of people and proportion of global population due to factors including globalization, human settlement, and possibly climate change. Here, the authors summarized the most recent data about dengue outbreaks in China and reviewed the global trend of dengue epidemiology. Future directions for dengue surveillance, control and prevention are also introduced.

AIM： TO evaluate the accuracy of two non-invasive tests in a population of Alaska Native persons. High rates of Helicobacter pylori （H. pylon] infection, H. pyIori treatment failure, and gastric cancer in this population necessitate documentation of infection status at multiple time points over a patient＇s *** test, 13C urea breath test （UBT）, and immunoglobulin G antibodies to H. pylori in serum. The performances of 13C-UBT and antibody test were compared to a gold standard defined by a positive H. pylori test by culture or, in case of a negative culture result, by positive histology and a positive rapid urease test.RESULTS： The sensitivity and specificity of the 13C- UBT were 93% and 88%, respectively, relative to the gold standard. The antibody test had an equivalent sensitivity of 93% with a reduced specificity of 68%. The false positive results for the antibody test were associated with previous treatment for an H. pylorlinfection [relative risk （RR） = 2.8]. High levels of antibodies to H. py/or/were associated with chronic gastritis and male gender, while high scores in the 13C-UBT test were associated with older age and with theH. pylori bacteria load on histological examination （RR = 4.4）. CONCLUSION： The 13C-UBT outperformed the antibody test for H. pylori and could be used when a noninvasive test is clinically necessary to document treatment outcome or when monitoring for reinfection.
