Introduction: Despite the progress recorded at the level of transfusion safety in Côte d’Ivoire, much remains to be done, particularly at the level of the medical selection of blood donors. The objective of the study was to make an assessment of the pre-donation capillary hemoglobin dosage for the year 2020 of the fixed collection, of the blood transfusion center of Yamoussoukro. Method: This is a retrospective study that took place at the Yamoussoukro blood transfusion center. The data collection related to all old and new blood donors were deemed suitable for the fixed collection of the year 2020. The method chosen for the pre-donation control is that of the portable hemoglobinometer of the HémoCue® type, more precisely 201+. Results: Of the 1160 blood donors in the study, the pre-donation hemoglobin level was not measured in 787 (67.8%) subjects of either sex. Of the subjects who had a pre-donation hemoglobin level performed, 97 (26%) blood donors had a sub-standard hemoglobin level, including 15 females and 82 males. Conclusion: Pre-donation hemoglobin testing of blood donors is effective in Yamoussoukro. However, efforts must still be made to improve the quality of the blood collected and to protect blood donors.

Introduction: The prevention of transmission of infections transmitted by blood transfusion depends on the correct selection of donors and the performance of adequate serological tests for the detection of pathogens, in particular viral hepatitis B and C viruses. The main objective of our study was to evaluate the seroprevalences of viral markers B and C in blood donors in the Agadir region. The secondary objectives were to evaluate these prevalences according to the socio-demographic characteristics of the donors and to evaluate the seroprevalence of other markers, in particular the human immunodeficiency virus. Methods: A retrospective analysis of files from the blood donor registers of the Agadir regional transfusion center, covering the period from 1 January to 31 December 2020, was conducted. Results: The study included 13,092 donors, the mean age was 34 ± 11, the M/F sex ratio was 2.6. The overall seroprevalences of HBsAg, anti-HCV, anti-HIV were respectively: 1.3%, 0.2% and 0.3% respectively. For HBsAg, the prevalence was higher in men (p = 0.007). The prevalence of anti-HCV was higher in rural areas than in urban areas (p Conclusion: The low prevalences of viral markers B and C in our study compared to those recorded in the general Moroccan population reflect the effectiveness of preventive measures with regard to donor selection.

Cryopreservation of red blood cells(RBCs)provides great potential benefits for providing transfusion timely in *** concentrations of glycerol(20%or 40%)are used for RBC cryopreservation in current clinical practice,which results in cytotoxicity and osmotic injuries that must be carefully ***,existing studies on the low-glycerol cryopreservation of RBCs still suffer from the bottleneck of low hematocrit levels,which require relatively large storage space and an extra concentration process before transfusion,making it inconvenient(time-consuming,and also may cause injury and sample lose)for clinical *** this end,we develop a novel method for the glycerol-free cryopreservation of human RBCs with a high final hematocrit by using trehalose as the sole cryoprotectant to dehydrate RBCs and using core–shell alginate hydrogel microfibers to enhance heat transfer during *** from previous studies,we achieve the cryopreservation of human RBCs at high hematocrit(>40%)with high recovery(up to 95%).Additionally,the washed RBCs post-cryopreserved are proved to maintain their morphology,mechanics,and functional *** may provide a nontoxic,high-efficiency,and glycerol-free approach for RBC cryopreservation,along with potential clinical transfusion benefits.

The unforeseen and uncertain life-threatening situation of the COVID-19 pandemic dramatically affected all areas of the human daily work *** study was designed to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on blood transfusion services and discuss the adopted confrontation measures for uninterrupted blood supply during the pandemic *** data on blood donation,blood component preparation,and issue from January 2019 to December 2022 were collected from the inventory registers of the RBTC,Delhi,*** to the non-pandemic year 2019,during the year 2020,all variables decreased *** observed maximum decrease in variables such as blood collection(–79.16%)in the month of October,blood issue(–71.61%)in the month of August,random donor platelets(RDP)preparation(–98.09%)in the month of October,RDP issue(–86.08%)in the month of September,fresh frozen plasma(FFP)preparation(–100%)in the month of October,and FFP issue(–96.08%)in the month of July with an annual decrease of–45.52%,–42.87%,–33.00%,–59.79%,–40.98%,and–54.48%,respectively,as compared to year *** to year 2020,in year 2021,the annual increase in blood collection,blood issue,FFP preparation,FFP issue,RDP preparation,and RDP issue was+50.20%,+21.68%,+65.31%,+78.52%,+116.23%,and+213.30%,*** study results show that the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected blood transfusion services at our blood *** adopted coping strategies to maintain the safe and uninterrupted blood transfusion chain at our blood bank gave us lessons for future preparedness if faced with a similar situation.
