Economic effect of China's carbon neutrality target under shared socioeconomic pathways

Economic feasibility is crucial for achieving the carbon neutrality target. However, current integrated assessments often underestimate the economic impacts of mitigation policies due to the lack of consideration of their economic benefits. This study integrates a warming-labour productivity model with a typical integrated assessment model using shared socioeconomic pathways. It simulates China’s economic development and carbon emission levels under both baseline and carbon-neutral policy scenarios, evaluating the economic costs and benefits of emission reduction policies aimed at achieving carbon neutrality. These findings reveal the following:(1) The economic costs of emission reduction policies are projected to peak between 2050 and2060, ranging from 0.41%to 9.37%of total GDP in the baseline scenario, primarily due to increased energy prices and R&D investments. These costs are expected to decline rapidly after 2070.(2) China’s carbon-neutral policies will mitigate global warming, with the economic benefits of mitigation projected to reach 5.65%to 17.24%of China’s total GDP by 2100.(3) Lowcarbon scenarios SSP1 and SSP4 could significantly reduce initial economic costs and advance the onset of net economic gains to2060. This integrated assessment confirms that China’s carbon neutrality target offers substantial net economic benefits in the long term. To minimize initial economic costs, efforts should focus on enhancing consumption-side transitions, upgrading lowcarbon technologies, and adopting new energy sources.

The search efficiency of differential evolution （DE） algorithm is greatly impacted by its control parameters. Although many adaptation/self-adaptation techniques can automatically find suitable control parameters for the DE, most techniques are based on pop- ulation information which may be misleading in solving complex optimization problems. Therefore, a self-adaptive DE （i.e., JADE） using two-phase parameter control scheme （TPC-JADE） is proposed to enhance the performance of DE in the current study. In the TPC-JADE, an adaptation technique is utilized to generate the control parameters in the early population evolution, and a well-known empirical guideline is used to update the control parameters in the later evolution stages. The TPC-JADE is compared with four state-of-the-art DE variants on two famous test suites （i.e., IEEE CEC2005 and IEEE CEC2015）. Results indicate that the overall performance of the TPC-JADE is better than that of the other compared algorithms. In addition, the proposed algorithm is utilized to obtain optimal nutrient and inducer feeding for the Lee-Ramirez bioreactor. Experimental results show that the TPC-JADE can perform well on an actual dynamic optimization problem.

Objective To investigate the role of oxidative stress in itch-indicative scratching behavior in mice, and further- more, to define the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying oxidative stress-mediated itch. Methods Scratching behavior was induced by intradermal injection of the oxidants hydrogen peroxide （H202） or tert-butylhydroperoxide （tBHP） into the nape of the neck in mice. The mice were observed for 30 rain. Results Intradermal H202 （0.03%-1%） or tBHP （1-30 pmol） elicited robust scratching behavior, displaying an inverted U-shaped dose-response curve. Naloxone, an opioid receptor antagonist, but not morphine, largely suppressed the oxidant-induced scratching. Chlorpheniramine, a histamine H1 receptor antagonist, blocked histamine- but not oxidant-induced scratching, indicating the involvement of a histamine-independent mechanism in oxidant-evoked itch. Further, resiniferatoxin treatment abolished oxidant-induced scratching, suggesting an essential role of C-fibers. Notably, blockade of transient receptor potential subtype ankyrin 1 （TRPA1） with the selective TRPA1 antagonist HC-030031, or genetic deletion of Trpal but not Trpvl （subfamily V, mem- ber 1） resulted in a profound reduction in H202-evoked scratching. Finally, systemic administration of the antioxidant N- acetyl-L-cysteine or trolox （a water-soluble vitamin E analog） attenuated scratching induced by the oxidants. Conclusion Oxidative stress by different oxidants induces profound scratching behavior, which is largely histamine- and TRPV1- independent but TRPAl-dependent. Antioxidants and TRPA1 antagonists may be used to treat human itch conditions as- sociated with oxidative stress.

Phenothiazine vs 5HT3 Antagonist Prophylactic Regimens to Prevent Post‐Anesthesia Care Unit Rescue Antiemetic: An Observational Study

Purpose: Our practitioners are asked to consider a patient’s postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) risk profile when developing their prophylactic antiemetic strategy. There is wide variation in employed strategies, and we have yet to determine the most effective PONV prophylactic regimen. The objective of this study is to compare prophylactic antiemetic regimens containing: phenothiazines to 5HT3 antagonists for effectiveness at reducing the incidence of Post‐Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) rescue antiemetic administration. Methods: This is an observational study of 4392 nonsmoking, women who underwent general anesthesia for breast surgery from 1/1/2009 through 6/30/2012. Previous history of PONV or motion sickness (HxPONV/MS) and the use of PACU opioids were recorded. Prophylactic antiemetic therapy was left to the discretion of the anesthesia care team. We compared phenothiazines and 5HT3 antagonists alone and with a glucocorticoid to determine the most effective treatment regimen in our practice for the prevention of the administration of PACU rescue antiemetics. Results: Patients who received a phenothiazine regimen compared to a 5HT3 antagonist regimen were less likely to have an antiemetic administered in the PACU (p = 0.0100) and this significant difference in rates holds in a logistic regression model adjusted for HxPONV/MS and PACU Opioid use (p = 0.0103). Conclusions: Based on our findings our clinicians are encouraged to administer a combination of a phenothiazine and a glucocorticoid in female, nonsmoking surgical breast patients for the prevention of PACU rescue antiemetic administration.
