C-arm Lipiodol CT in transcatheter arterial chemoembolization for small hepatocellular carcinoma

AIM:To investigate the value of C-arm Lipiodol computed tomography(CT) for intra-procedural hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) lesion detection during transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE).METHODS:Forty patients(37 male,3 female;mean age,52.6 ± 12.5 years,age range:25-82 years) diagnosed with HCC were enrolled in this *** patients underwent 64-slice CT 1-2 wk before *** the procedure,hepatic angiography was performed *** diagnostic embolization with Lipiodol injected into the hepatic artery,a C-arm CT scan was immediately conducted(C-arm Lipiodol CT).If new HCC lesions were confirmed,gelfoam particles were super-selectively injected into the tumor-nourishing blood vessel.A Lipiodol CT scan was performed 7-14 d after *** images acquired from 64-slice CT,digital subtraction angiography(DSA),C-arm Lipiodol CT and Lipiodol CT were retrospectively reviewed by four radiologists and the number of detected lesions in each examination was counted,*** results of Lipiodol CT were taken as the diagnostic ***-fetoprotein values were examined both before and after *** study only takes into account the lesions that were not found or were considered suspicious on 64-slice CT before ***:Preprocedural 64-slice CT detected a total of 13 suspicious lesions in the 40 *** detected ten definite and four suspicious lesions.C-arm Lipiodol CT detected 71 lesions in total and Lipiodol CT confirmed 67 lesions with a diameter range of 3-12 *** false-positive lesions,which were detected by C-arm Lipiodol CT,were considered to be hepatic artery-portal vein *** average alpha-fetoprotein values before and after TACE were significantly different(452.3 ± 192.6 ng/m L vs 223.8 ± 93.2 ng/m L;P = 0.039).CONCLUSION:C-arm Lipiodol CT has a higher diagnostic sensitivity for small HCC *** technique may help physicians make intraproceduraldecisions to provide patients with earlier treatment.

There is a worldwide epidemic of skeletal diseases causing not only a public health issue but also accounting for a sizable portion of healthcare expenditures. The vertebrate skeleton is known to be formed by mesenchymal cells condensing into tissue elements(patterning phase) followed by their differentiation into cartilage(chondrocytes) or bone(osteoblasts) cells within the condensations. During the growth and remodeling phase, bone is formed directly via intramembranous ossification or through a cartilage to bone conversion via endochondral ossification routes. The canonical pathway of the endochondral bone formation process involves apoptosis of hypertrophic chondrocytes followed by vascular invasion that brings in osteoclast precursors to remove cartilage and osteoblast precursors to form bone. However, there is now an emerging role for chondrocyte-to-osteoblast transdifferentiation in the endochondral ossification process. Although the concept of "transdifferentiation" per se is not recent,new data using a variety of techniques to follow the fate of chondrocytes in different bones during embryonic and post-natal growth as well as during fracture repair in adults have identified three different models for chondrocyte-to-osteoblast transdifferentiation(direct transdifferentiation, dedifferentiation to redifferentiation, and chondrocyte to osteogenic precursor). This review focuses on the emerging models of chondrocyte-to-osteoblast transdifferentiation and their implications for the treatment of skeletal diseases as well as the possible signaling pathways that contribute to chondrocyte-to-osteoblast transdifferentiation processes.

Developing bioprotective materials with bactericidal activity is of great significance since it can effectively keep healthcare workers from infection by emerging infectious diseases;however,this is still a big ***,we fabricate a novel rechargeable N-halamine antibacterial material by functionalizing electrospun poly(vinyl alcohol-co-ethylene)(EVOH)nanofibers with dimethylol-5,5-dimethylhydantoin(DMDMH).The premise of the design is that the N-halamine com-pound,DMDMH,can be covalently grafted on the nanofibers,endowing the EVOH nanofibrous membranes(ENM)with rechargeable and durable bactericidal *** as-prepared DMDMH functionalized ENM(EDNM)render rechargeable chlorination capacity(>2000 ppm),high inactivation efficacy against bacteria(>99.9999%within 3 min),high filtration efficiency(>99.5%)under low air resistance,and robust mechanical properties,which are due to the synergistic effect of the unique characters of N-halamines and electrospun nanofibrous *** successful synthesis of the N-halamine antibacterial membranes can serve as a functional layer of protective equipment that capable of inactivating and intercepting pathogenic bioaerosols,providing new ways into the development of new-generation antibacterial bioprotective materials.

Constructing charge transfer(CT)state by introducing donor(D)and acceptor(A)is an efficient strategy to regulate the photophysical properties of luminescent *** CT-type luminophores are built onπ-conjugated fused-ring structures,which always show hybrid CT/locally excited(LE)states and luminescence quenching effect in the aggregate *** this work,eight conjugated biphenyl(BP)and nonconjugated diphenylmethane(DPM)derivatives with different donors and acceptors are synthesized to investigate the CT *** photophysical characterization and theoretical calculation demonstrate that the through-space CT(TSCT)in nonconjugated DA-DPM exhibit superior photophysical performance than the conjugated DA-BP with through-bond CT(TBCT),the main manifestations are as follows:(1)TSCT luminophores produce longer maximum emission wavelength(λ_(em))than the corresponding TBCT *** example,the longest λ_(em)of DMA-CN-DPM(DMA,dimethylamino)is 621 nm but the corresponding λ_(em)of DMA-CN-BP is only 480 nm.(2)TSCT-based DA-DPM demonstrates more sensitive responsiveness to environmental stimuli such as temperature and polarity.(3)Complete separation of the the highest occupied molecular orbital(HOMO)and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital(LUMO)distribution exists in all kinds of conformation of DA-DPM,which was hard to realize in conjugated DA-BP.

BACKGROUND Desmoid fibroma is a rare soft tissue tumor originating from the aponeurosis,fascia,and muscle,and it is also known as aponeurotic fibroma,invasive fibroma,or ligamentous *** To investigate the clinical and imaging features of desmoid tumors of the *** Thirteen patients with desmoid fibroma of the extremities admitted to our hospital from October 2016 to March 2021 were *** patients underwent computed tomography(CT),magnetic resonance imaging(MRI),and pathological examination of the *** on the diameter and distribution of the lesion,the relationship between the lesion morphology and surrounding structures,MRI and CT findings,and pathological features were statistically *** The lesion diameter ranged from 1.7 to 8.9 cm,with an average of 5.35±2.39 *** lesions were located in the deep muscular space,with the left and right forearm each accounting for 23.08%of *** the 13 patients with desmoid fibroma of the extremities,the lesions were"patchy"in 1 case,irregular in 10,and quasi-round in *** boundary between the lesion and surrounding soft tissue was blurred in 10 cases,and the focus infiltrated along the tissue space and invaded the adjacent ***,the edge of the lesion showed"beard-like"infiltration in 2 cases;bone resorption and damage were found in 8,and bending of the bone was present in 2;the boundary of the focus was clear in *** to the MRI examination,the lesions were larger than 5 cm(61.54%),round or fusiform in shape(84.62%),had an unclear boundary(76.92%),showed uniform signal(69.23%),inhomogeneous enhancement(84.62%),and"root"or"claw"infiltration(69.23%).Neurovascular tract invasion was present in 30.77%of *** examination showed that the desmoid tumors had slightly a lower density(69.23%),higher enhancement(61.54%),and unclear boundary(84.62%);a CT value<50 Hu was present in 53.85%of lesions,and the enhancement was uneven in 53.85%of ***
