Jiuzhaigou is situated on a mountain-canyon region and is famous for frequent tectonic *** abundance of loose co-seismic landslides and collapses were produced on gullies after the Jiuzhaigou Earthquake on August 8,2017,which was served as material source for debris flow in later *** flow appears frequently which are seriously endangering the safety of people's lives and *** the earliest debris flow appeared in areas where no case ever reported *** debris flow susceptibility evaluation(DFSE)is used for predicting the areas prone to debris flow,which is urgently required to avoid hazards and help to guide the strategy of preventive ***,this work employs debris flow in Jiuzhaigou to reveal the characteristics of disaster-pregnant environment and to explore the application of machine learning in *** new viewpoints are suggested:(i)Material density factor of debris flow is first adopted in this work,and it is proved to be a critical factor for triggering debris flows by sensitivity analysis method.(ii)Deep neural network and convolutional neural network(CNN)achieve relatively good area under the curve(AUC)values and are 0.021-0.024 higher than traditional machine learning methods.(iii)Watershed units combined with CNNbased model can achieve more accurate,reliable and practical susceptibility *** work provides an idea for prevention of debris flow in mountainous lands.

Molecular evolution of Toll-like receptors in rodents

Toll-like receptors(TLRs),the key sensor molecules in vertebrates,trigger the innate immunity and prime the adaptive immune *** TLR family of rodents,the largest order of mammals,typically contains 13 TLR ***,a clear picture of the evolution of the rodent TLR family has not yet emerged and the TLR evolutionary patterns are unclear in rodent ***,we analyzed the natural variation and the evolutionary processes acting on the TLR family in rodents at both the interspecific and population *** results showed that rodent TLRs were dominated by purifying selection,but a series of positively selected sites(PSSs)primarily located in the ligand-binding domain was also *** numbers of PSSs differed among TLRs,and nonviralsensing TLRs had more PSSs than those in viral-sensing ***-conversion events were found between TLR1 and TLR6 in most rodent *** genetic analyses showed that TLR2,TLR8,and TLR12 were under positive selection in Rattus norvegicus and ***,whereas positive selection also acted on TLR5 and TLR9 in the former species,as well as TLR1 and TLR7 in the latter ***,we found that the proportion of polymorphisms with potentially functional change was much lower in viral-sensing TLRs than in nonviral-sensing TLRs in both of these rat *** findings revealed the first thorough insight into the evolution of the rodent TLR genetic variability and provided important novel insights into the evolutionary history of TLRs over long and short timescales.

Tree allometry responses to competition and complementarity in mixed-species plantations of Betula alnoides

Understanding the spatial variation,temporal changes,and their underlying driving forces of carbon sequestration in various forests is of great importance for understanding the carbon cycle and carbon management *** carbon density and sequestration in various Cunninghamia lanceolata forests,extensively cultivated for timber production in subtropical China,vary with biodiversity,forest structure,environment,and cultural factors remain poorly explored,presenting a critical knowledge gap for realizing carbon sequestration supply potential through *** on a large-scale database of 449 permanent forest inventory plots,we quantified the spatial-temporal heterogeneity of aboveground carbon densities and carbon accumulation rates in Cunninghamia lanceolate forests in Hunan Province,China,and attributed the contributions of stand structure,environmental,and management factors to the heterogeneity using quantile age-sequence analysis,partial least squares path modeling(PLS-PM),and hot-spot *** results showed lower values of carbon density and sequestration on average,in comparison with other forests in the same climate zone(i.e.,subtropics),with pronounced spatial and temporal ***,quantile regression analysis using carbon accumulation rates along an age sequence showed large differences in carbon sequestration rates among underperformed and outperformed forests(0.50 and 1.80 Mg·ha^(-1)·yr^(-1)).PLS-PM demonstrated that maximum DBH and stand density were the main crucial drivers of aboveground carbon density from young to mature ***,species diversity and geotopographic factors were the significant factors causing the large discrepancy in aboveground carbon density change between low-and high-carbon-bearing *** analysis revealed the importance of culture attributes in shaping the geospatial patterns of carbon *** work highlighted that retaining largesized DBH trees and increasing shade-t

Rice Bran-derived Peptide KF-8 Attenuates Dexamethasone-induced Myopathy in Caenorhabditis elegans by Regulating Locomotion-related Genes

Background and aims: Dexamethasone is a common glucocorticoid medication with adverse effects that can cause muscle atrophy， but no drug intervention has been approved or recommended for this condition. KF-8 is a rice bran-derived anti-oxidant peptide that extends the life span of Caenorhabditis elegans. Methods: We established a C. elegans model of dexamethasone-induced myopathy to evaluate the potential therapeutic effects of KF-8 in this model. C. elegans muscle function was assessed in terms of locomotory behaviors including crawling， swimming， burrowing， pharyngeal pumping， and head swing. Muscle actin filament integrity was evaluated using fluorescence imaging. The molecular mechanisms of KF-8 were investigated using transcriptome sequencing， qRT-PCR， RNA interference， and western blot analysis. Results: Dexamethasone disrupted actin filaments in the striated muscles of the body wall and inhibited C. elegans crawling， swimming， burrowing， pharyngeal pumping， and head swing. KF-8 reversed the actin filament disruption and locomotor dysfunction induced by dexamethasone. Transcriptome sequencing， pathway enrichment， and qRT-PCR analyses revealed that KF-8 regulated the locomotion-related genes W04G5.10， vha-12， and ddr-1， as well as age-1 (the catalytic subunit ortholog of PI3K)， and akt1. RNA interference， conducted using a genetically engineered E. coli HT115 strain as a food source， confirmed age-1 as a key regulator of locomotor function of C. elegans. Further mechanistic studies with C2C12 myotubes showed that KF-8 regulated the IRS-PI3K-Akt pathway， the master regulator of protein synthesis and degradation. Conclusion: Together， these findings suggest that KF-8 protects against dexamethasone-induced myopathy in C. elegans by regulating locomotion-related genes and the IRS-PI3K-Akt pathway.

Improved multi-scale inverse bottleneck residual network based on triplet parallel attention for apple leaf disease identification

Accurate diagnosis of apple leaf diseases is crucial for improving the quality of apple production and promoting the development of the apple industry. However, apple leaf diseases do not differ significantly from image texture and structural information. The difficulties in disease feature extraction in complex backgrounds slow the related research progress. To address the problems, this paper proposes an improved multi-scale inverse bottleneck residual network model based on a triplet parallel attention mechanism, which is built upon ResNet-50, while improving and combining the inception module and ResNext inverse bottleneck blocks, to recognize seven types of apple leaf(including six diseases of alternaria leaf spot, brown spot, grey spot, mosaic, rust, scab, and one healthy). First, the 3×3 convolutions in some of the residual modules are replaced by multi-scale residual convolutions, the convolution kernels of different sizes contained in each branch of the multi-scale convolution are applied to extract feature maps of different sizes, and the outputs of these branches are multi-scale fused by summing to enrich the output features of the images. Second, the global layer-wise dynamic coordinated inverse bottleneck structure is used to reduce the network feature loss. The inverse bottleneck structure makes the image information less lossy when transforming from different dimensional feature spaces. The fusion of multi-scale and layer-wise dynamic coordinated inverse bottlenecks makes the model effectively balances computational efficiency and feature representation capability, and more robust with a combination of horizontal and vertical features in the fine identification of apple leaf diseases. Discovery and mechanism of anti-hypertensive effect of a novel tripeptide(SYP) from medicinal fungus Ganoderma lingzhi

Ganoderma lingzhi is a new species of the prize medicinal mushroom Ganoderma (Agaricomycetes). Using angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) as a target， a tripeptide Ser-Tyr-Pro (SYP) was discovered with preponderant ACE inhibitory activity with an 50% inhibiting concentration (IC50) value of 62.50 μg/mL attribute to the formed salt bridge and hydrogen bonds between SYP and ACE. SYP even maintained superior bioactivity after intestinal digestion， and exerted no cytotoxicity， but presented incomplete bioavailability in blood of spontaneous hypertensive rats (SHRs). Furthermore， it performed antihypertensive effect in vivo by inhibiting the influx of Ca2+through activating endothelial NO synthase (eNOS)/NO/guanosine 3’，5’-cyclic monophosphate (cGMP) pathway， accompanied by attenuating angiotensin Ⅱ (Ang Ⅱ)/NADPH oxidase (NOX)/ROS pathway. This work not only discoverers a novel pharmacological ingredient from medicinal mushroom G. lingzhi for hypertension therapy， but also provides an insight into molecular mechanism of the ACE inhibitory peptide (ACEIP) on lowering blood pressure.
