Anaerobic digestion and incineration are widely used sewage sludge(SS)treatment and disposal approaches to recovering energy from SS,but it is difficult to select a suitable technical process from the various *** this study,life-cycle assessments were adopted to compare the energy-and greenhouse gas-(GHG)emission footprints of two sludge-to-energy *** system uses a combination of AD with incineration(the AI system),whereas the other was simplified by direct incineration(the DI system).Comparison between three SS feedstocks(VS/TS:57.61-73.1 ds.%)revealed that the AI system consistently outperformed the DI *** results of sensitivity analyses showed that the energy and GHG emission performances were mainly affected by VS content of the SS,AD conversion efficiency,and the energy consumption of sludge ***,the energy and GHG emission credit of the two systems increased remarkably with the increase in the VS content of the *** the high-organic-content sludge(VS/TS:55%–80%),the energy and GHG emission credit of the AI system increase with the increase of AD conversion ***,for the low organic content sludge(VS/TS:30%–55%),it has the opposite *** terms of energy efficiency and GHG performance,the AI system is a good choice for the treatment of high-organic-content sludge(VS/TS>55%),but DI shows superiority over AI when dealing with low organic content sludge(VS/TS<55%).

The continued increase in population and the industrial revolution have led to an increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide(CO_(2)) concentration. Consequently, developing and implementing effective solutions to reduce CO_(2) emissions is a global priority. The electrochemical CO_(2) reduction reaction(CO_(2)RR) is strongly believed to be a promising alternative to fossil fuel-based technologies for the production of value-added chemicals. So far, the implementation of CO_(2)RR is hindered by associated electrochemical reactions, such as low selectivity, hydrogen evolution reaction(HER), and additional overpotential induced in some cases. As a result, it is necessary to conduct a timely evaluation of the state-of-the-art strategies in CO_(2)RR, with a focus on the engineering of the electrocatalytic systems. Catalyst morphology is one factor that plays a critical role in overcoming these drawbacks and significantly contributes to enhancing product selectivity and Faradaic efficiency(FE). This review article summarizes the recent advances in the rational design of electrocatalysts with various morphologies and the influence of these morphologies on CO_(2)RR. To compare literature findings in a meaningful way, the article focuses on results reported under a well-defined period and considers the first three rows of the d-block metal catalysts. The discussion typically covers the design of nanostructured catalysts and the molecular-level understanding of morphology-performance relationship in terms of activity, selectivity, and stability during CO_(2) electrolysis. Among others, it would be convenient to recommend a comprehensive discussion on the morphologies of single metals and heterostructures, with a detailed emphasis on their impact on CO_(2) conversion.

Synergistically combining biological whole-cell bacteria with man-made semiconductor materials innovates the way for sustainable solar-driven CO_(2)fixation,showing great promise to break through the bottleneck in traditional chemical photocatalyst ***,most of the biohybrids require uneconomical organic nutrients and anaerobic conditions for the successful cultivation of the bacteria to sustain the CO_(2)fixation,which severely limits their economic viability and applicability for practical ***,we present an inorganic-biological hybrid system composed of obligate autotrophic bacteria Thiobacillus thioparus(***)and CdS nanoparticles(NPs)biologically precipitated on the bacterial surface,which can achieve efficient CO_(2)fixation based entirely on cost-effective inorganic salts and without the restriction of anaerobic *** optimized interface between CdS NPs and *** formed by biological precipitation plays an essential role for *** efficiently receiving photogenerated electrons from CdS NPs and thus changing the autotrophic way from chemoautotroph to *** a result,the *** biohybrid realizes the solar-driven CO_(2)fixation to produce multi-carbon glutamate synthase and biomass under visible-light irradiation with CO_(2)as the only carbon *** work provides significant inspiration for the further exploration of the solar-driven self-replicating biocatalytic system to achieve CO_(2)fixation and conversion.

Influence of thermal ageing on high-field polarisation characteristics and conductivity behaviour of submarine polymeric cables insulation

Diagnosing insulation intrinsic ageing is essential for preventing insulation failure of submarine cables,and in case of failure,helping in any decision about maintenance *** this study,a novel aged cable diagnosis approach based on high-voltage frequency domain spectroscopy(HV-FDS)with broader frequency width is proposed to analyse the high-field polarisation characteristics and conductivity behaviour of 500 kV submarine polymeric cables insulation,aiming to support the evaluation of overall insulation *** measurement principle of HV-FDS and relaxation mechanism are stated,and then focus is on studying the extent of change of polarisation and conduction properties of submarine cables insulation as a function of ageing stress and ***,the high-field polarisation characteristics and conductivity behaviour are discussed in-depth based on the carrier transport and trap ***,the novel diagnostic indicator based on the high-field characteristics is extracted to quantify the thermal ageing state of submarine cables *** show that the high-field polarisation characteristics and conductivity behaviour seem to become sensitive diagnostic quantities if measured at reasonably high voltage,which are able to reveal mechanisms associated with thermo-oxidative ageing as that generated in the testing procedure considered in this *** is considerably higher than that experienced in typical dielectric spectroscopy approaches.

Removal and recovery of phosphorus(P) from wastewater is of great importance to addressing the challenges of eutrophication and phosphorus shortage. The P removal and recovery performance of conventional electrochemical precipitation approach was constrained by the limited mass transfer rate. Herein,a cathodic membrane filtration(CMF) reactor was developed using Ti/SnO_(2)-Sb anode and titanium mesh cathodic membrane module to achieve efficient removal and recovery of P in wastewater. Compared with the flow-by mode, the CMF system in the flow-through mode exhibited excellent P removal performance due to the markedly enhanced mass transfer. At the current density of 4 A/m^(2), membrane flux of 16.6 L m^(-2)h^(-1), and Ca/P molar ratio of 1.67, the removal efficiency of P was 96.2% and the energy consumption was only 45.7 k Wh/kg P. The local high p H of cathode surface played a vital role in P removal,which substantially accelerated the nucleation of calcium phosphate(Ca P). Based on the crystalline and morphological characterization of the precipitates, the hydroxyapatite was the most stable crystalline phase of Ca P, which was transformed from intermediate phases(such as dicalcium phosphate and amorphous calcium phosphate). This study paves the way for applying electrochemical membrane filtration system for P removal and recovery from wastewater.

Proton exchange membranes(PEMs),which are crucial fuel cell parts,play an important role in the field of energy ***,the further development of conventional PEMs based on synthetic polymers is greatly limited by high energy consumption and difficult *** this work,we reported the fabrication of a novel viscose-based PEM via cationic modification and dyeing treatment with the reactive dyes ***-efficiency proton transmission channels can be constructed due to the for-mation of the complex internal three-dimensional network of the as-prepared viscose-based PEM.Hþconductivity(sHþ)and water uptake are intensively investigated by changing the cationic agents and KE-7B1,and the maximum sHþreaches 44.19 mS/cm at 80℃and 98%relative humidity(RH).Furthermore,the prepared membrane shows the lowest calculated activation energy value(12.25 kJ/mol),indicating that both Grotthuss and Vehicle mechanisms play an important role in ionic *** membrane chemical structure and micromorphology are analyzed and the proton transmission modes are explored in detail,supplemented with research on the hydrophilic/hydrophobic characteristics and crystallinity of the *** application stability of the membranes is also evaluated analyzing the thermal,mechanical,and oxygen resistance properties,and the results show that all the prepared membranes can maintain good thermal stability within 200℃.The maximum tensile strength reaches 42.12 MPa,and the mass losses of the membranes soaked in 30%(in mass,same below)H_(2)O_(2)solution for 120 h can be restricted to 10%.Therefore,as a novel PEM,the obtained dye viscose-based membranes show great potential for application in fuel cells.

Studying an ecological restoration zoning process under the background of ecological security patterns is of great significance to the rapid adjustment and optimization of a landscape *** this study,a remote sensing ecological index and a morphological spatial pattern analysis method were used to assess the quality of habitats and identify ecological sources in the city of Ningbo;ecological corridors,ecological pinch points,and ecological barrier points were extracted by using a circuit theory to construct ecological security patterns and ecological restoration *** results indicate:(1)There were 47 ecological sources,and 83 key ecological corridors in Ningbo,and the ecological land area was about 1898.39 km^(2),accounting for 19.89%of the total study area.(2)The ecological source areas were distributed in“one patch and three belts”,and the low-resistance ecological corridors were concentrated in southern Yuyao city,western Haishu district,and central and western Fenghua district;the ecological network in the western and southern regions was dense.(3)There were four types of ecological restoration zones that need to be established,which were prioritized restoration zones,prioritized protection zones,key conservation zones,and general conservation zones distributed hierarchically from inner part towards outside.(4)Ninghai county,Yuyao city,and Fenghua district had large ecological land areas,however,prioritized restoration and protection zones in Ninghai and Fenghua were also *** analysis results are expected to provide a reference for optimizing a territorial ecological space in a city.
