AIM To examine the effects of Acanthopanax senticosus polysaccharides(ASPS) on intestinal tight junction(TJ) disruption and nuclear factor-kappa B(NF-κB)/myosin light chain kinase(MLCK) activation in *** BALB/C mice(6-8-weeks-old) received continuous intragastric gavage of ASPS for 7 d before injection of lipopolysaccharide(LPS), or received ASPS once after LPS injection. Blood and intestinal mucosal samples were collected 6 h after LPS challenge. Clinical symptoms, histological injury, intestinal permeability,TJ ultrastructure, and TJ protein expression were *** Compared with mice in the LPS group, pretreatment with ASPS improved clinical and histological scores by 390.9%(P < 0.05) and 57.89%(P < 0.05), respectively, and gut permeability change in endotoxemic mice was shown by a 61.93% reduction in reduced leakage of fluorescein isothiocyanate-dextran 6 h after LPS injection(P < 0.05). ASPS pretreatment also prevented LPS-induced TJ ultrastructure breakdown supported by increased electron dense materials between adjoining cells, sustained redistribution and expression of occludin(0.597 ± 0.027 vs 0.103 ± 0.009, P < 0.05) and zonula occludens-1(0.507 ± 0.032 vs 0.125 ± 0.019, P < 0.05), and suppressed activation of the NF-κB/MLCK pathway indicated by reduced expression of NF-κB, phospho-inhibitor kappa B-alpha, MLCK and phospho-myosin light-chain-2 by 16.06%(P < 0.05), 54.31%(P < 0.05), 66.10%(P < 0.05) and 64.82%(P < 0.05), respectively. CONCLUSION ASPS pretreatment may be associated with inhibition of the NF-κB/MLCK pathway and concomitant amelioration of LPS-induced TJ dysfunction of intestinal epithelium in endotoxemia.

Background:Eucommia ulmoides Oliv. is a medicinal plant native to China, with its bark (Eucommiae Cortex) traditionally being used for medicinal purposes. Previous research has shown that Eucommia male flowers can exert anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antibacterial, and other pharmacological effects, including immune regulation. This study explored the anti-inflammatory effects of the 70% ethanol extract of male flowers (EF) of E. ulmoides in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells and LPS-administered ***:Cytotoxicity of EF for RAW 264.7 cells was investigated using Cell Counting Kit-8. The production of proinflammatory mediators, nitric oxide (NO), tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-1β, and IL-6 was determined using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. IL-17, IL-23, and IL-10 mRNA levels were determined using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. Activation of the nuclear factor (NF)-κB pathway in RAW 264.7 cells was investigated via Western blotting. In vivo antiinflammatory effects of EF were studied in an LPS-induced acute inflammation mouse model by analyzing lung tissue histopathology, serum TNF-α and IL-6 levels, and myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity in lung ***:EF showed no significant cytotoxicity at concentrations from 10 to 60 μg/mL (cell viability > 80%) in the CCK-8 cell viability assay. The F1 of N8855×N2899, a cross between two G. max cultivars, was found to be male-sterile. After it was back-crossed with the recurrent parent N2899 for four successive generations, a cytoplasmic-nuclear male sterile line and its maintainer line, designated as NJCMS1A and NJCMS1B, respectively, were obtained. NJCMS1A performed stable in male sterility and normal in female fertility with 98. 29% plants are male-sterile and 0 pollen germination. The abnormal phenomenon of 2～3 styles surrounded by 20～30 stamens was found in some flowers of male sterile plants of BC1F1 and BC2F1.

By analyzing 2.93 fb-1 data collected at the center-of-mass energy v/S = 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the absolute branching fraction of the semileptonic decay D＋- k0e＋ ve via k0-π0π0 - （8.59 ± 0.14 ± 0.21）% using k0- k0-π0π0, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. Dear Editor,Systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE),one of the most common autoimmune diseases in reproductive females,is a multifactorial disease involving genetic,environmental,and hormonal factors.1 It occurs at a 9:1 female-to-male ratio,and the sex predisposition suggests that the estrogen system plays an essential role in the developing of *** effects of estrogen have traditionally been attributed to the classical nuclear estrogen receptors(ERs),ERα,and ERβ,which predominantly regulate *** nucleotide-binding protein-coupled estrogen receptor 1(GPER1)is a transmembrane receptor for estrogen that mediates several rapid cellular effects of estrogen.2 Large amounts of autoantibodies characterize SLE,and anti-estrogen receptor autoantibodies are likely to affect the function of immune cells in SLE but are not yet fully understood.
