BACKGROUND： Nuclear factor-κB （NF-κB）, intercellular adhesion molecule-1 （ICAM-1）, and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 （VCAM-1） in brain tissue can participate in inflammatory reactions after cerebral ischemia. Acupuncture treatment for acute cerebral ischemia produces abnormal protein expression. OBJECTIVE： To investigate the effects of acupuncture on NF-KB, ICAM-1, and VCAM-1 mRNA and protein expression in the brain tissue of rats with cerebral ischemiaJreperfUsion injury. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING： Randomized, controlled, animal experiments were performed at the Laboratory of Department of Neurosurgery, Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, China between December 2008 and October 2009. MATERIALS： Rabbit anti-NF-KB polyclonal antibody, rabbit anti-ICAM-1 polyclonal antibody, and rabbit anti-VCAM-1 polyclonal antibody were purchased from Santa Cruz Biotechnology, USA. METHODS： A total of 46 healthy, Sprague Dawley rats were randomly assigned to sham surgery （n= 10）, model （n = 12）, acupuncture pretreatment （n = 12）, and acupuncture intervention （n = 12） groups. Models of middle cerebral artery occlusion were established by right common carotid artery ligation. In the acupuncture pretreatment group, rats received acupuncture for 3 consecutive days, and then models were established. In the acupuncture intervention group, rats received acupuncture for 3 consecutive days at Waiguan （SJ 5）, Sanyinjiao （SP 6）, and Dazhui （DU 14） acupoints following model establishment. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： Somatosensory asymmetry and forelimb use asymmetry were tested, as well as NF-KB, ICAM-1, and VCAM-1 mRNA and protein expression in the frontal and parietal cortex at 4, 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours following cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury. RESULTS： Acupuncture improved neurological function and significantly decreased NF-KB, ICAM-1, and VCAM-1 mRNA and protein expression in the frontal and parietal cortex of rats with cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury （P 〈 0.05）. This study investigated the effects of Yishendaluo decoction on the loss of blood-brain barrier integrity in mice exhibiting experimental autoimmune *** this end,we used real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR to measure the levels of mRNAs specific to the T cell markers CD4 and CD8,and the monocyte marker *** addition,we used Evans blue dye extravasation in the spinal cord and brain tissues to assess blood-brain barrier *** results indicated that an increase in blood-brain barrier permeability was associated with an increase in CD4,CD8 and CD11b mRNA expression in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis *** decoction administration significantly reversed inflammatory cell accumulation in cerebral tissues of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis mice.

This survey points to the mechanisms of bioresponse caused by magnetic fields (MFs), paying attention to their action not only on ions, molecules and macromolecules, but also on cells, tissues and organisms. The significance of findings concerning the MF-dependence of cell proliferation, necrosis or apoptosis was judged by comparing the results obtained in a solenoid, where an MF can be added to the geomagnetic field (GMF), with those obtained in a magnetically shielded room, where the MFs can be attenuated or null. This comparative criterion was particularly appropriate when the differences detectable between the data provided by experimental samples and the data provided by control samples were rather small, as observed in estimating the MF-influence on total DNA replication, RNA transcription and polypeptide translation. The MF-induced inhibition of apoptosis was considered as a risk potentially leading to accumulation of cancer cells. The analysis also surveyed the MF-dependence of the interactions between host animal cells and infecting bacteria. In relation to studies on the origin and adaptation of life on the Earth, theoretical insights paving the way to elucidating the MF-interactions with biostructures and biosystems of different orders of organization evaluated the possible involvement of the so-called “biological windows”. Analogously to what is known for ionizing radiations, the efficiency of the applied MFs appeared to depend on the complexity of their biological targets.

BAX and BAK are essential regulators of apoptotic signaling through mitochondria in mammalian development and in response to cytotoxic stimuli. To investigate the role of BAX and BAK in transformation and tumorigenesis, primary baby mouse kidney epithelial cells (BMKs) from wild-type, BAX, BAK and BAK and BAK deficient mice were transformed by adenovirus E1A and dominant-negative p53 (p53DD). While E1A alone transforms p53 deficient BMKs, transformation of BAX and/or BAK deficient BMKs still required inactivation of p53. No Significant Association between PIK3CA Mutation and Survival of Esophageal Squamous cell Carcinoma:A Meta-analysis

The prognostic value of phosphatidylinositol-4, 5-bisphosphate 3-kinase, catalytic subunit alpha(PIK3CA) in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC) is controversial. We aimed to investigate the prognostic significance of PIK3CA mutation in patients with ESCC. EMBASE, Pub Med, and Web of Science databases were systematically searched from inception through Oct. 3, 2016. The hazard ratios(HRs) and 95% confidence intervals(CI) were calculated using a random effects model for overall survival(OS) and disease-free survival(DFS). Seven studies enrolling 1505 patients were eligible for inclusion of the current meta-analysis. Results revealed that PIK3CA mutation was not significantly associated with OS(HR: 0.90, 95% CI: 0.63–1.30, P=0.591), with a significant heterogeneity(I2=65.7%, P=0.012). Additionally, subgroup analyses were further conducted according to various variables, such as types of specimen, the sample size, technique and statistical methodology. All results suggested that no significant relationship was found between PIK3CA mutation and OS in patients with ESCC. For DFS, there was no significant association between PIK3CA mutation and DFS in patients with ESCC(HR: 1.00, 95% CI=0.47–2.11, P=0.993, I2=73.7%). Publication bias was not present and the results of sensitivity analysis were very stable in the current meta-analysis. Our findings suggest that PIK3CA mutation has no significant effects on OS and DFS in ESCC patients. More well-designed prospective studies with better methodology for PIK3CA assessment are required to clarify the prognostic significance of PIK3CA mutation in ESCC patients.
