The local isolates of Trichoderma spp. and Fusarium solani were colected from citrus orchards in the Mekong delta of Vietnam and isolated on PDA, PDB and TSM medium for antagonism and Koch's postulate testing. The results showed that the high chitinolytic enzymes content of Trichoderma isolates can antagonise with Fusarium solani isolates by preventing the germination of Fusarium macroconidia in in-vitro condition. There are five promising isolates of Trichoderma spp. having high antagonism with Fusarium solani. These Trichoderma isolates also grew well in rice straws, maize stems, weeds and water hyacinth biowaste materials. These results supply the promising trend for biological control of root rot disease on citrus orchards of the Mekong delta.

Applied Biofloc Technology for Target Species in the Mekong Delta in Vietnam： A Review

BFT （Biofloc Technology） has been currently applied in cantho univ.rsity to a number of targeted species from fresh-to marine and saline water species in the Mekong Delta, e.g. striped catfish （Pangasianodon hypophthalmus）, white leg shrimp （Litopenaeus vannamei）, tiger shrimp （Penaeus monodon） and Artemia Vinhchau strain （Artemia franciscana） for both in the lab-scales or production scales. The best growth and survival rate of striped catfish was obtained in 6%o. For white leg shrimp, the results indicated：（1） C （Carbon） source e.g. rice-flour or molasses supplementary based on the feed provided to promote survival, growth and shrimp biomass harvested; （2） it was fed less than 20% as usual but showed similar to those in the control; （3） combination of rice-flour and molasses at a ratio of 70：30 by weight of C and N （Nitrogen） in a ration of 15：1 enhanced shrimp survival and growth; （4） in intensive culture, shrimp could be against the infection of disease and end up with higher survival, growth in earthen ponds. For tiger shrimp, a set up for larvae till post larvae at different ratios of C and N and C：N of 30 PLI5 displayed with better survival rate （49.73 ± 7.07%） and production （74,596 ± 10.608 PL/m3）. Artemiafranciscana was set up at C：N = 10：1 and salinities from 35, 60, 80 and 100 ppt. After two weeks, there were no significant difference among treatment and the control （without biofloc） in term of survival and growth. Moreover, total embryos per female was not significant different with the control and even the number of embryos as cysts tended to be higher. BFT displayed its advantages when applied on culture system of different targeted species and there is no doubt that it could help to sustain aquaculture and save environment in the Mekong Delta in near future.

To study an application of low-value fishmeal (i.e. organic manure) and the effect of different nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) ratios (N/Ps) to the composition of algae prevailing in fertilized ponds for culturing Artemia. Phytoplankton composition and their abundance were determined through qualitative and quantitative sampling and analyses. The experiment included five treatments, control treatment using chicken manure (300 g/m^3), the others with fishmeal in different rates (i.e. 30 g/m^3, 60 g/m^3, 90 g/m^3, 120 g/m^3) with 3 replicates each and in a combination with inorganic fertilizer. Result indicated that the algal density of the experiment varied from 318 × 10^3 to 2,590 × 10^3 cells/mL and a significant difference among treatments (p < 0.05). The density of algae at the second treatment (30 g/m^3) is the highest with a mean density of 2,590 × 10^3 cells/mL. There are 38 phytoplankton species belonging to five phyla of algae, i.e. Bacillariophyta, Cyanophyta, Chlorophyta, Dinophyta and Euglenophyta. Also, there are 18 species of Bacillariophyta, 14 species of Chlorophyta, 4 species of Cyanophyta, 1 species of Dinophyta and 1 species of Euglenophyta. Algae compositions were 32, 34, 31, 27 species at control treatment, and 30 g/m^3, 60 g/m^3, 90 g/m^3, 120 g/m^3 fishmeal treatments, respectively. The dominant genus was usually Nitzschia, Thalassiosira, Navicula (Bacillariophyta), Tetraselmis (Chlorophyta), Oscillatoria (Cyanophyta), Euglena (Euglenophyta). Euglena usually appeared in the late phase of the experiment.

The importance and the necessary of researches on renewable energy have become a hot topic in recent years due to climate change and global warming. In addition, the fossil fuel reserves is facing rapid depletion on the earth. Currently, most researches have concentrated on producing biogas for heating, lighting, drying, cooking but lack in researching on electricity production because the possibility of producing biogas at households are common at small scale. Studying on alternative energy sources to replace traditional fuel for electric power generation brings new chances and great opportunities for development. This study presents an assessment electric power generation via water hyacinths and agricultural waste. In this paper, the evaluation electric power is generated by operating internal combustion engines which use biogas fuel to replace traditional fuel （diesel, gasoline）. The results of the studies were demonstrated by experiments on the renewable energy production system at Hoa An Biotechnology Research and Experimental Center of cantho univ.rsity.

This study proposed a new way to formulate a low energy super-sulfated cement (SSC) which can be used to produce self-compacting concrete (SCC) with high compressive strength and durability in terms of chloride penetration resistance. This innovative SSC, different from the traditional SSC, was purely produced with a ternary mixture of three industrial by-products of ground granulated blast furnace slag, low calcium Class F fly ash and circulating fluidized bed combustion (CFBC) fly ash and was denoted as SFC-SSC (super-sulfated cement made by mixture of slag, Class F fly ash and CFBC fly ash). Experimental results showed that the combination of a fixed amount of 15 wt.% of CFBC fly ash with various ratios of Class F fly ash to slag could be used to produce the hardened SCCs with high 28-day compressive strengths (41.8 - 65.6 MPa). Addition of Class F fly ash led to the resulting SCCs with lowered price and preferable engineering properties, and thus it was considered as state-of-the-art method to drive such type of concrete towards sustainable construction materials.

Aim: To validate a Vietnamese short version (OHIP- 14VN) for use in epidemiological studies. Methods: The original English-language version was translated into Vietnamese, back translated and after some revisions tested for psychometric properties. Subjects (n = 724) were asked to self-administer a questionnaire but could ask for assistance. Convergent validity was tested by investigating associations between OHIP domain and total scores, and dichotomized self-reported satisfaction with 1) the dentition in general, 2) chewing function, and 3) esthetics. Groups validity was evaluated by comparing OHIP scores of subjects having ≤6 molars vs. >6 molars and tooth decay vs. no decay. Test-retest reliability was investigated in a convenience sample (n = 54) and expressed in Intraclass Correlation Coefficients (ICCs). Internal consistency was assessed by Cronbach’s alpha and average interitem correlation coefficients. Results: Validity: all associations were in the hypothesized directions. Differences in mean OHIP total were statistically sig-nificant for all discriminative variables. OHIP scores completed with assistance were significantly lower than those from self-administered questionnaires and therefore analyzed separately. For both administration formats differences in mean scores were still significant for “satisfaction” but for having ≤6 molars or decay the differences lost significance for most domain and total scores. Reliability: ICCs ranged from 0.54 - 0.74. Internal consistency: Cronbach’s alphas for OHIP total scores were 0.93 (self-administered) and 0.91 (with assistance). Average interitem correlation coefficients ranged from 0.26 - 0.67 (self-administered) and 0.28 - 0.69 (with assistance). Conclusions: This Vietnamese version of the OHIP-14 demonstrated good construct validity and acceptable reliability for OHIP total scores however OHIP-14VN domain scores should be interpreted with caution.

In recent year,the flooding has occurred with high frequency at LXQ(Long Xuyen Quadrangle)areas of Mekong Delta,*** was considered as a major natural disaster which has effects on the physic and spirit in people’s life in this *** research aims to generate a flood hazard map and assess the flood situation at LXQ in *** MNDWI(Modification of Normalized Difference Water Index)extracting from Sentinel-2 image was used to map the flood extent at LXQ during rainy season in *** statistics method estimated correlation coefficient between flooding spatial distribution and hydrological stations on SPSS(Statistical Product and Services Solutions)*** results showed that the severe flood occurred from August to December in *** were about 47.6%and 28.2%of the total areas that were inundated in October and August,*** correlation between inundated areas and water level at Ha Tien and Chau Doc hydrological stations was 0.73 and 0.65(p<0.01),*** derived information was very essential and valuable for local managers in making decision on responding and mitigating to the flood disaster.
