Cervical cancer(CC) epidemiology CC, the fourth most frequently diagnosed malignancy in women worldwide, is a major global health challenge, particularly in low-resource regions. Approximately 88.1% of the 604,000 CC new cases occurred in low-and middle-income countries in 2020, and more than 90% of the 342,000 CC deaths occurred in low-and middle-income countries in 2020~1.

Association of cancer prevention awareness with esophageal cancer screening participation rates: Results from a population-based cancer screening program in rural China

Objective: : China have implemented population-based esophageal cancer(EC) screening programs, however,the participant rates were relatively low. This study was conducted to examine the association between cancer prevention knowledge and EC screening participation rates(PRs).Methods: : Data in the analyses were obtained from a population-based cancer screening program in four provinces in China since 2007. In the course of 2007-2016, participants who were evaluated as high risk for EC and subsequently recommended for endoscopy examination were included in the final analysis. One-way analysis of variance test, Chi-square test and logistic regression analysis were ***: : A total of 28,543 individuals assessed as high-risk population for EC were included in this study, with13,036 males(45.67%) and 15,507 females(54.33%). The prevalence rates of current smoking and alcohol drinking were higher in males(58.25% and 44.22%, respectively) than in females(5.35% and 4.05%, respectively).Participants of females, and those who had older age, lower income, as well as higher education level and cancer prevention knowledge level were more likely to undergo endoscopy. Multivariable analysis showed that higher cancer prevention knowledge was associated with higher PR for endoscopic screening [adjusted odd ratio(aORQ4/Q1) =1.511, 95% confidence interval(95% CI): 1.398-1.632] among our study subjects. This association between cancer prevention knowledge and compliance with endoscopic screening also tends to be strong within subgroups of males, females, aged below 60 years, aged 60 years and above, and lower level of education(illiterate individuals and those with junior high education or less).Conclusions: : Our results displayed a positive relationship between cancer prevention knowledge and PRs for endoscopic screening, implying cancer prevention awareness being an independent influence factor for compliance with EC screening. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of single-stranded and non-coding endogenous RNAs with 18-25 nucleotides in length. By binding to the complementary sequences in the 3’untranslated region (3’UTR) of protein coding genes， miRNAs regulate posttranscriptionally the mRNA expression of target genes and enzymes involved in various biological processes. The application of high-throughput sequencing， bioinformatics analysis， and novel detection methods has high-lighted promising roles of miRNAs as both novel biomarkers for tumor diagnosis and critical regulators involved in almost all stages of carcinogenesis including cancer initiation， promotion and progression. Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG)， the most investigated active catechin in green tea， has been linked to various health-promoting benefits including chemoprevention and treatment of cancers. In this review， we first present a brief description of EGCG and its major metabolic pathway. It is followed by reviewing the roles of EGCG in the modulation of oncogenic and tumor suppressing miRNAs in some common cancers. These findings suggest that the capacity of EGCG to regulate expression of specific miRNAs provides insights of its new mechanisms of action underlying its chemopreventive and potential beneficial activities against various cancers.

cancer has become the first leading cause of death in the world, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Facing the increasing trend of cancer incidence and mortality, China issued and implemented ＂three-early（early prevention, early diagnosis and early treatment）＂ national cancer prevention plan. As the main body and dependence of social governance, non-governmental organizations（NGOs） take over the role of government in the field of cancer prevention and treatment. American cancer Society（ACS） made a research on cancer NGOs and civil society in cancer control and found that cancer NGOs in developing countries mobilize civil society to work together and advocate governments in their countries to develop policies to address the growing cancer burden. Union for International cancer Control（UICC）, cancer Council Australia（CCA）, and Malaysian cancer NGOs are the representatives of cancer NGOs in promoting cancer control. Selecting Chinese Anti-cancer Association（CACA） as an example in China, this article is to investigate how NGOs undertake systematic cancer prevention work in China. By conducting real case study, we found that, as a NGO, CACA plays a significant role in intensifying the leading role of government in cancer control, optimizing cancer outcomes, decreasing cancer incidence and mortality rates and improving public health.

China is geographically the third largest country in the world and the most populated low-to-middle-income country. cancer incidence and mortality rates for some cancers in the USA and European countries have steadily decreased over the last decades, whereas the incidence and mortality of certain cancers in China have been increasing at an alarming speed. Rapid industrialization and urbanization in China have been accompanied by incredible changes in lifestyle and environment combined with an aging population. Mortality caused by lung, colorectal and breast cancers has been steadily increasing, whereas cancer mortality from gastric, esophageal and cervical tumors has tended to decrease. Similar to what has occurred in the United States, unhealthy lifestyles in China, including heavy smoking and poor diet combined with pollution, have contributed to increased cancer risk. China is facing many challenges in cancer treatment and prevention for the general population. The major areas that need to be addressed in the control of cancer in China include cancers associated with environmental pollution,tobacco use, occupational carcinogens, infection, excessive alcohol consumption, dietary deficiencies and obesity. In this perspective, we review the problems in each area and suggest ideas for future directions in cancer research and strategies and actions to reduce the incidence of cancer in China.

Cervical cancer is one of many types of cancers that severely threaten women’s *** year,604,000 new cases of cervical cancer appear with 342,000 related deaths *** represents about 18%of global incidences and 17%of global deaths(1).The China cancer Registry’s annual report determined that,in 2020,world-standardized incidence rate of cervical cancer was 11.35 per 100,000 women—accompanied by a mortality rate of 3.42 per 100,000 women in China;further,both have demonstrated upward trends(2).Thus,China faces serious challenges with cervical cancer prevention and control:creating a major public health problem that severely threatens women’s health.

Health economic evaluation on population-based Helicobacter pylori eradication and endoscopic screening for gastric cancer prevention

Gastric cancer is a global public health burden, nearly one million new cases are diagnosed per year worldwide, of which 44% of cases occur in China. The prognosis of gastric cancer varies remarkably by the stage of cancer, and most of the patients in China are diagnosed at advanced stages, resulting in poor prognoses. Effective strategies to reduce the burden of gastric cancer include primary prevention through testing and treatment of Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) and secondary prevention by screening and early detection. Although many countries have issued management guidelines and consensus reports concerning these strategies, the limited availability of healthcare resources often precludes their widespread implementation. Therefore, assessing the costs, benefits, and harms of population-based intervention measures through health economic evaluation is necessary for informed health policy decisions. Accordingly, we synthesize management approaches from different countries on H. pylori eradication and endoscopic screening, and also summarize recent advancements in health economic evaluations on population-based preventive strategies. The goal of the review is to provide empirical evidence supporting optimal resource allocation, maximizing benefits for the population, and ultimately reducing the burden of gastric cancer.
