Background and Aims:For high morbidity and mortality,hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)becomes a major health issue ***,numerous non-coding RNAs(ncRNAs)are known to regulate the occurrence and patho-genesis of *** ncRNAs have also been developed as tumor biomarkers and therapeutic ***,the potential function of the small Cajal body-specific RNA(scaRNA)SCARNA16,a newly identified ncRNA,remains to be explored in ***:In both HCC cell lines and specimens from 120 enrolled patients,the expression val-ues of SCARNA16 were *** divided patients into SCARNA16 high and low expression subgroups,and then analyzed the difference of various clinical characteristics and prognosis data between ***:Compared to paired controls,SCARNA16 was significantly down-regulated in HCC cell lines and clinical specimens(p<0.01).Besides,HCC patients with lower SCARNA16 expression commonly presented with larger and more tumor lesions,more ves-sel carcinoma emboli,more capsular invasion and higher TNM stages(p<0.05).Moreover,SCARNA16 expression was negatively correlated with postoperative prognosis of HCC patients in 5-year follow-up,including tumor-free survival(TFS)(median time of low *** subgroups:14 vs.48 months,p=0.006)and overall survival(OS)(median time of low *** subgroups:39 vs.52 months,p=0.001).Besides,SCARNA16 acted as an independent prognostic bio-marker in TFS(hazard ratio[HR]:0.578,95%CI:0.345-0.969,p=0.038)and OS(HR:0.366,95%CI:0.178-0.752,p=0.006).Conclusions:Low expression patterns of SCAR-NA16 remarkably associated with severe clinical status and poor survival of patients,suggesting that SCARNA16 pos-sesses potency as a novel biomarker for HCC.

A comparative study of totally laparoscopic distal gastrectomy versus laparoscopic-assisted distal gastrectomy in gastric cancer patients: Short-term operative outcomes at a high-volume center

Objective： Laparoscopic gastrectomy has been established as a standard treatment for early gastric cancer, and its use is increasing recently. Compared with the conventional laparoscopy-assisted distal gastrectomy （LADG）, totally laparoscopic distal gastrectomy （TLDG） involves intracorporeal reconstruction, which can avoid the additional incision, resulting in pain reduction and early recovery. This study aimed to compare the short-term postoperative outcomes of TLDG vs. LADG in gastric cancer in a high-volume ***： A retrospective cohort study was conducted on 1,322 patients who underwent laparoscopic distal gastrectomy from June 2012 to June 2017 at the National cancer center, Korea. LAD G was performed in the early period before July 2015, and TLDG was applied in the later period. Postoperative short-term outcomes were compared in terms of complication and clinical course between the two groups. Pain score was measured by rating the pain intensity from 0 to 10 points on postoperative day （POD） 1 and 3. Results： A total of 667 patients underwent LADG and 655 patients underwent TLDG. Clinieopathologic characteristics were not different in both groups. Intraoperative estimated blood loss （EBL） was significantly lower in the TLDG group （P〈0.001）. Postoperative pain scores were significantly lower in the TLDG group than in the LADG group on POD 1 （5.1±1.5 vs. 4.8±1.4, P=0.015）. First flatus passage after operation was significantly earlier in the TLDG group （3.4±0.8 d vs. 3.2±0.6 d, P〈0.001）. There were no differences in postoperative complications and hospital stay between the two groups. Conclusions： Based on the reported short-term postoperative outcomes, TLDG is safe and feasible as well as LADG. Moreover, compared with LADG, TLDG can reduce intraoperative EBL and postoperative pain and enhance the bowel motility in gastric cancer surgery.

BACKGROUND Upper limb venous thrombosis(ULVT)is rarer than lower-extremity deep venous thrombosis,and is related to Paget-Schroetter syndrome,central venous catheterization,and *** are few reports of pulmonary embolism(PE)from upper-extremity vein thrombosis due to ***,we report two cases of PE that originated from upper limb venous thrombosis on the surgical side in two patients undergoing modified radical mastectomy for breast *** cases challenge the traditional theory that PE originate only from the lower *** SUMMARY We describe two female patients,aged 68 and 65 years,respectively,who had undergone modified radical mastectomy for breast *** did not have a central venous catheter and did not undergo preoperative neoadjuvant *** were transferred to the intensive care unit due to symptomatic PE on the first day after *** Doppler ultrasound identified fresh thrombosis in their upper limb veins,which was the presumed source of the *** all received anticoagulation therapy,and one of them experienced bleeding that required discontinuation of the ***,they were discharged in stable *** ULVT as a source of PE after breast cancer surgery cannot be ignored.

Five-CpG-based prognostic signature for predicting survival in hepatocellular carcinoma patients

Objective:Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is a common malignancy associated with high morbidity and mortality rates *** diagnosis plays an important role in the improvement of HCC ***:In this study,we conducted a comprehensive analysis of HCC DNA methylation and gene expression datasets in The cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA),to identify a prognostic signature for HCC diagnosis and survival ***,we identified differential methylation CpG(dmCpG)sites in HCC samples and compared them with those in adjacent normal liver tissues;this was followed by univariate analysis and Sure Independence Screening(SIS)in the training *** robustness of the identified prognostic signature was evaluated using the testing *** explore the biological processes involved in HCC progression,we also performed functional enrichment analysis for overlapping genes between genes containing dmCpG sites(DMGs)and differential expression genes(DEGs)in HCC patients,using data from the Database for Annotation,Visualization,and Integrated Discovery(DAVID).Results:As a result,we identified five CpG sites that were significantly associated with HCC survival through univariate analysis and *** analysis of clinical characteristics identified age and risk factors(including alcohol consumption and smoking)as independent factors that indicated HCC *** analysis indicated that the integrated prognostic signature(weighted combination of the five CpG sites)that took age and risk factors into consideration resulted in more accurate survival ***:This study provides a novel signature for predicting HCC survival,and should be helpful for early HCC diagnosis and personalized treatment.

Cage-like radiotherapy system for noncoplanar radiotherapy

The aim of this study was to design a cage-like radiotherapy system(CRTS)to further promote the clinical application of noncoplanar *** CRTS comprises two stands,two O-rings,several arc girders,an X-ray head,an imaging subsystem,and a treatment *** X-ray head rotates with O-rings around the patient’s body and slides along the arc *** with the C-arm linear accelerator(C-Linac),the clinically available spatial irradiation angle ranges(SIARs)of the CRTS for the head,chest,and abdomen were 33%,63.6%,and 62.6%larger,***,according to a preliminary planning comparison based on the dose distribution simulation method,the CRTS achieved much better protection of normal tissue than the ***,the CRTS enabled accurate noncoplanar irradiation without movement of the body being irradiated,allowed automatic control of the movements of different parts without risk of collisions,and provided continuous radiation over an angle that considerably exceeded a full *** advantages make CRTS very promising for noncoplanar radiotherapy.

cancer statistics in Chinese older people,2022:current burden,time trends,and comparisons with the US,Japan,and the Republic of Korea

Largely due to population ageing,the cancer burden from older people has been rising,which imposed considerable pressure on current Chinese healthcare *** provide comprehensive information about cancer burden of Chinese older people based on the most recent data from National Central cancer Registry of *** logarithmic linear regression was used to project the current cancer burden in 2022,and Joinpoint regression was used for temporal trend analysis from 2000 to *** also estimated cancer statistics of older people in the US,Japan and the Republic of Korea for *** is estimated that 2.79 million cases and 1.94 million deaths occur for Chinese older people,representing 55.8%and 68.2%of cases and deaths in all population in *** overall cancer incidence rate gradually increased among older women,while the mortality rates declined for both ***,approximately 10.0%of all cases and 17.7%of all deaths are from people aged over 80 years,and cancer incidence and mortality in this age group showed upward trends for *** cancer and digestive cancers are the leading cancer types for Chinese older *** with other countries,China has lower incidence rates but higher mortality rates for older *** rapidly growing burden of prostate cancer,breast cancer,colorectal cancer,and declines in esophageal cancer,stomach cancer,and liver cancer among older people indicate the cancer pattern in China is being in a transition stage to that in developed *** findings imply that it should be the national health priority to meet the growing demands for cancer diagnosis,treatment and care services from the older people as the rapid population ageing in next few decades.
