High Mountain Asia(HMA),recognized as a third pole,needs regular and intense studies as it is susceptible to climate *** accurate and high-resolution Digital Elevation Model(DEM)for this region enables us to analyze it in a 3D environment and understand its intricate role as the Water Tower of *** science teams of NASA realized an 8-m DEM using satellite stereo imagery for HMA,termed HMA 8-m *** this research,we assessed the vertical accuracy of HMA 8-m DEM using reference elevations from ICESat-2 geolocated photons at three test sites of varied topography and land *** were made from statistical quantifiers and elevation *** the world’s highest mountain,Mount Everest,and its surroundings,Root Mean Squared Error(RMSE)and Mean Absolute Error(MAE)resulted in 1.94 m and 1.66 m,respectively;however,a uniform positive bias observed in the elevation profiles indicates the seasonal snow cover change will dent the accurate estimation of the elevation in this sort of test *** second test site containing gentle slopes with forest patches has exhibited the Digital Surface Model(DSM)features with RMSE and MAE of 0.58 m and 0.52 m,*** third test site,situated in the Zanda County of the Qinghai-Tibet,is a relatively flat terrain bed,mostly bare earth with sudden river cuts,and has minimal errors with RMSE and MAE of 0.32 m and 0.29 m,respectively,and with a negligible ***,in one more test site,the feasibility of detecting the glacial lakes was tested,which resulted in exhibiting a flat surface over the surface of the lakes,indicating the potential of HMA 8-m DEM for deriving the hydrological *** results accrued in this investigation confirm that the HMA 8-m DEM has the best vertical accuracy and should be of high use for analyzing natural hazards and monitoring glacier surfaces.

Exploring diurnal and seasonal variabilities in surface urban heat island intensity in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area

The urban heat island(UHl)is an environmental problem of wide concern because it poses a threat to both the human living environment and the sustainable development of *** of the spatiotemporal characteristics and the driving factors of UHl is essential for mitigating their ***,current understanding of the UHI in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area(GBA)is *** with data(e.g.,land surface temperature and land use.)acquired from the Google Earth Engine and other sources for the period 2001-2020,this study examined the diurnal and seasonal variabilities,spatial heterogeneities,temporal trends,and drivers of surface UHI intensity(SUHl)in the *** SUHll was calculated based on the urban-rural dichotomy,which has been proven an effective *** average SUHII was generally O-2℃,and the SUHIl in daytime was generally greater than that at *** maximum(minimum)SUHll was found in summer(winter);similarly,the largest(smallest)diurnal difference in SUHll was during summer(winter).Generally,the Mann-Kendall trend test and the Sen's slope estimator revealed a statistically insignificant upward trend in SUHll on all time *** influence of driving factors on SUHII was examined using the Geo-Detector *** was found that the number of continuous impervious pixels had the greatest impact,and that the urban-rural difference in the enhanced vegetation index had the smallest impact,suggesting that anthropogenic heat emissions and urban size are the main influencing ***,controlling urban expansion and reducing anthropogenic heat generation are effective approaches for alleviating surface UHI.

Spatiotemporal changes in sunshine duration and its influential factors in Chongqing,China from 1961 to 2020

The surface solar radiation in most parts of the world has undergone a phenomenon known as global dimming and brightening,characterized by an initial decrease followed by an *** a result,the sunshine duration(SD)has decreased in the past 60 *** the backdrop of global dimming and brightening,SD has decreased to varying degrees in many regions of *** the observed data of SD,cloud amount(total cloud amount and low cloud amount,abbreviated as TCA and LCA),precipitation,and relative humidity(RH)from 34 meteorological stations in Chongqing during the period of 1961-2020,along with a digital elevation model(DEM)with a resolution of 90 m,this study analyzed the spatiotemporal variations and influencing factors of *** analysis employed methods such as linear regression,Mann-Kendall test,wavelet transformation,and DEM-based possible SD distributed *** results showed that the annual SD in Chongqing has significantly decreased over the last 60 years,with a decreasing interannual trend rate(ITR)of 40.4 h/*** for no obvious trend in spring,SD decreased significantly in summer,autumn and winter at the ITR of 21.1 h/10a,8.5 h/10a and 7.5 h/10a,*** abrupt decrease in the annual SD was found in *** difference before and after the abrupt decrease was 177.7 *** difference before and after the abrupt decrease was 177.7 *** annual SD possessed the oscillation period of *** spatial heterogeneity of the mean annual SD during the last 60 years was *** distribution of SD in Chongqing is high in the northeast and low in the *** addition,about 73%of the total area in Chongqing showed a significant and very significant decreasing *** regions with significant changes are mainly concentrated in the regions with altitudes of 200~1000 *** increasing LCA was the main cause of the decrease of the annual SD in the regions with 200-400 m altitude decreased the most and changed the *** LCA is the prim

Multi-sensor multispectral reconstruction framework based on projection and reconstruction

The scarcity and low spatial resolution of hyperspectral images(HSIs) have become a major problem limiting the application of the images. In recent years, spectral reconstruction(SR) has been applied to convert multispectral images(MSIs) with abundant quantities and high spatial resolution into HSIs. With the launch of several new multispectral(MS) satellites with a short repeat period, the simultaneous acquisition of images from multiple MS sensors in the same area is gradually becoming feasible. Unfortunately, existing SR methods only consider the reconstruction of the MSIs of a single sensor without considering using MSIs from different MS sensors to obtain a better construction effect through their complementary bands. However,multi-sensor SR is characterized by two problems: inconsistency in the amplitude information of real multisensor imaging and difficulty in the extraction of the complex correlations of bands from different *** solve these problems, this paper proposes a multi-sensor SR framework based on a two-step approach in which the problems of amplitude inconsistency and band information extraction are solved using an ideal projection network and an ideal multi-sensor SR network, respectively. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by experiments on three datasets.

Assessment of spongy moth infestation impacts on forest productivity and carbon loss using the Sentinel-2 satellite remote sensing and eddy covariance flux data

Background Deciduous forests in eastern North America experienced a widespread and intense spongy moth（Lymantria dispar） infestation in 2021. This study quantified the impact of this spongy moth infestation on carbon（C） cycle in forests across the Great Lakes region in canada, utilizing high-resolution（10 × 10 m2） Sentinel-2 satellite remote sensing images and eddy covariance（EC） flux data. Study results showed a significant reduction in leaf area index（LAI） and gross primary productivity（GPP） values in deciduous and mixed forests in the region in *** remote sensing derived, growing season mean LAI values of deciduous（mixed） forests were 3.66（3.18）, 2.74（2.64）, and 3.53（2.94） m2m-2in 2020, 2021 and 2022, respectively, indicating about 24（14）% reduction in LAI, as compared to pre-and post-infestation years. Similarly, growing season GPP values in deciduous（mixed） forests were 1338（1208）, 868（932）, and 1367（1175） g C m-2, respectively in 2020, 2021 and 2022, showing about 35（22）% reduction in GPP in 2021 as compared to pre-and post-infestation years. This infestation induced reduction in GPP of deciduous and mixed forests, when upscaled to whole study area（178,000 km2）, resulted in 21.1（21.4） Mt of C loss as compared to 2020（2022）, respectively. It shows the large scale of C losses caused by this infestation in Canadian Great Lakes *** The methods developed in this study offer valuable tools to assess and quantify natural disturbance impacts on the regional C balance of forest ecosystems by integrating field observations, high-resolution remote sensing data and models. Study results will also help in developing sustainable forest management practices to achieve net-zero C emission goals through nature-based climate change solutions.

Late Triassic Intracontinental Deformation of South Tianshan,Central Asia:Evidence from Syn-tectonic Sedimentation and Detrital Zircon Provenances of the Kuqa Depression

The Tianshan range,a Paleozoic orogenic belt in Central Asia,has undergone multiple phases of tectonic activities characterized by the N-S compression after the early Mesozoic,including the far-field effects of the Cenozoic Indian-Asian ***,there are limited reports on the tectonic deformation and initiation of Triassic intracontinental deformation in the Tianshan *** this structural context is crucial for interpreting the early intracontinental deformation history of the Eurasian continent during the early *** strata and syn-tectonic sediments provide a rich source of information on tectonic activities and have been extensively used in the studies of orogenic *** on detail fieldwork conducted in this study,the middle-late Triassic Kelamayi Formation of the northern Kuqa Depression in the southern Tianshan fold-thrust belt has been identified as the typical syn-tectonic growth *** youngest detrital zircon component in two lithic sandstone samples from the bottom and top of the Kelamayi growth strata yielded U-Pb ages of 223.4±3.1 and 215.5±2.9 Ma,respectively,indicating that the maximum depositional age of the bottom and top of the Kelamayi growth strata is 226-220 and 218-212 *** geochronological distribution of detrital samples from the Early-Middle Triassic and Late Triassic revealed abrupt changes,suggesting a new source supply resulting from tectonic activation in the Tianshan *** coupling relationship between the syn-tectonic sedimentation of the Kelamayi Formation and the South Tianshan fold-thrust system provides robust evidence that the Triassic intracontinental deformation of the South Tianshan range began at approximately 226-220 Ma(during the Late Triassic)and ended at approximately 218-212 *** findings provide crucial constraints for understanding the intraplate deformation in the Tianshan range during the Triassic.

Apatite Fission-Track Thermochronology in the Tamusu Area,Bayingobi Basin,NW China,and its Geological Significance

Real-time Rescue Target Detection Based on UAV Imagery for Flood Emergency Response

Timely acquisition of rescue target information is critical for emergency response after a flood *** Aerial Vehicles(UAVs)equipped with remote sensing capabilities offer distinct advantages,including high-resolution imagery and exceptional mobility,making them well suited for monitoring flood extent and identifying rescue targets during ***,there are some challenges in interpreting rescue information in real time from flood images captured by UAVs,such as the complexity of the scenarios of UAV images,the lack of flood rescue target detection datasets and the limited real-time processing capabilities of the airborne on-board ***,we propose a real-time rescue target detection method for UAVs that is capable of efficiently delineating flood extent and identifying rescue targets(i.e.,pedestrians and vehicles trapped by floods).The proposed method achieves real-time rescue information extraction for UAV platforms by lightweight processing and fusion of flood extent extraction model and target detection *** flood inundation range is extracted by the proposed method in real time and detects targets such as people and vehicles to be rescued based on this *** experimental results demonstrate that the Intersection over Union(IoU)for flood water extraction reaches an impressive 80%,and the IoU for real-time flood water extraction stands at a commendable 76.4%.The information on flood stricken targets extracted by this method in real time can be used for flood emergency rescue.

Spatiotemporal changes of gross primary productivity and its response to drought in the Mongolian Plateau under climate change

Gross primary productivity(GPP)of vegetation is an important constituent of the terrestrial carbon sinks and is significantly influenced by *** the impact of droughts on different types of vegetation GPP provides insight into the spatiotemporal variation of terrestrial carbon sinks,aiding efforts to mitigate the detrimental effects of climate *** this study,we utilized the precipitation and temperature data from the Climatic Research Unit,the standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index(SPEI),the standardized precipitation index(SPI),and the simulated vegetation GPP using the eddy covariance-light use efficiency(EC-LUE)model to analyze the spatiotemporal change of GPP and its response to different drought indices in the Mongolian Plateau during *** main findings indicated that vegetation GPP decreased in 50.53% of the plateau,mainly in its northern and northeastern parts,while it increased in the remaining 49.47%***,meadow steppe(78.92%)and deciduous forest(79.46%)witnessed a significant decrease in vegetation GPP,while alpine steppe(75.08%),cropland(76.27%),and sandy vegetation(87.88%)recovered *** aridification areas accounted for 71.39% of the affected areas,while 28.53% of the areas underwent severe aridification,mainly located in the south and central ***,the warming aridification areas of desert steppe(92.68%)and sandy vegetation(90.24%)were *** warming was found to amplify the sensitivity of coniferous forest,deciduous forest,meadow steppe,and alpine steppe GPP to ***,the drought sensitivity of vegetation GPP in the Mongolian Plateau gradually decreased as altitude *** cumulative effect of drought on vegetation GPP persisted for 3.00-8.00 *** findings of this study will improve the understanding of how drought influences vegetation in arid and semi-arid areas.
