Biomedical investigations in nanotherapeutics and nanomedicine have recently intensified in pursuit of new therapies with improved *** dots(QDs)are promising nanomaterials that possess a wide array of advantageous properties,including electronic properties,optical properties,and engineered biocompatibility under physiological *** to these characteristics,QDs are mainly used for biomedical labeling and theranostic(therapeutic-diagnostic)*** can be functionalized with ligands to facilitate their interaction with the immune system,specific IgE,and effector cell ***,undesirable side effects such as hypersensitivity and toxicity may occur,requiring further *** review systematically summarizes the potential uses of QDs in the allergy *** overview of the definition and development of QDs is provided,along with the applications of QDs in allergy studies,including the detection of allergen-specific IgE(sIgE),food allergens,and sIgE in cellular *** potential treatment of allergies with QDs is also described,highlighting the toxicity and biocompatibility of these ***,we discuss the current findings on the immunotoxicity of *** favorable points regarding the use of QDs for allergy diagnosis and treatment are noted.

Objective:To evaluate the effect of Chinese herbal medicine formula,modified Liujunzi Decoction(六君子汤,MLJZT),for anorexia,utilized as adjunct therapy during chemotherapy treatment for patients with advaneed non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC).Methods:The study adopted a propensity score-matched design based on a prospective *** February 2016 to September 2017,patients with advanced NSCLC that received both cisplatin-based chemotherapy and MLJZT(IM group)were 1:1 propensity score-matched to patients that received the cisplatin-based chemotherapy alone(control group).Changes in anorexia and weight,as well as side effects were evaluated per week within 4-cycle ***:Overall,156 patients with advaneed NSCLC that had received chemotherapy from our database were ide ntified and 53 pairs were matched *** total,48.6%(50/53)of patients in the IM group had anorexia-improvement compared to 28.3%(15/53)of patients in the control group,and a total of 39.6%(21/53)of patients in the control group had a worsening of anorexia compared to only 7.8%(8/53)of patients in the IM group(P<0.01).The weight reduced significantly over time in the control group(-2.36±2.53 kg)as compared to the IM group(-0.62±3.89 kg,P<0.01).CHM didn't reduce the efficacy of chemotherapy in shrinking tumor size,and didn't increase the incidence of side effects such as hematological and hepatorenal ***:MLJZT is effective and safe for alleviating anorexia in patients with *** fin dings warrant the con duct of a randomized con trolled trial.

Back to Basics: Estimating Protein Requirements for Adult hospital Patients. A Systematic Review of Randomised Controlled Trials

Aim: To review the supporting evidence for protein requirements in hospitalised adults, and compare the findings with commonly-used guidelines and resources. Methods: a systematic review was conducted based on a computerised bibliographic search of MEDLINE, EMBASE and CINAHL from 1950 to October 2011, as well as a citation review of relevant articles and guidelines. Studies were included if they were randomised clinical trials in hospitalised or chronically ill adults, comparing two or more different levels of protein intake. Information about study quality, setting, and findings was extracted using standardised protocols. Due to the heterogeneity of study characteristics, no meta-analysis was undertaken. Results: 116 papers were obtained in the search and 33 of these met all inclusion criteria. Five studies could not be obtained. The remainder reported outcome measures such as nitrogen balance, anthropometric measurements (including body weight, BMI, and mid-arm circumference), blood electrolyte levels and serum urea, which provide support for recommended protein intakes in various clinical conditions. The results were summarized and compared with current recommendations. Conclusion: high-level evidence to support current recommendations is lacking. The studies reviewed generally agreed with current guidelines and resources.

The treatment of advanced pancreatic cancer has not moved much beyond single agent gemcitabine until recently when protocols such as FOLFIRINOX(fluorouracil,leucovorin,irinotecan and oxaliplatin)and nab-paclitaxelgemcitabine have demonstrated some improved *** in technology especially in massively parallel genome sequencing has progressed our understanding of the biology of pancreatic cancer especially the candidate signalling pathways that are involved in tumourogenesis and disease *** has allowed identification of potentially actionable mutations that may be targeted by new biological *** heterogeneity of pancreatic cancer makes tumour tissue collection important with the aim of being able to personalise therapies for the individual as opposed to a one size fits all approach to treatment of the *** paper reviews the developments in this area of translational research and the ongoing clinical studies that will attempt to move this into the everyday oncology practice.

Background:Children with moderate-to-severe asthma continue to have disease complications despite the receipt of standardof-care *** monoclonal antibody dupilumab has been approved for the treatment of adults and adolescents with asthma as well as with other type 2 inflammatory ***:In this 52-week phase 3,randomized,double-blind,placebo-controlled trial,we assigned 408 children between the ages of 6 and 11 years who had uncontrolled moderate-to-severe asthma to receive a subcutaneous injection of dupilumab(at a dose of 100 mg for those weighing≤30 kg and 200 mg for those weighing>30 kg)or matched placebo every 2 *** the children continued to receive a stable dose of standard background *** primary end point was the annualized rate of severe asthma *** end points included the change from baseline in the percentage of predicted prebronchodilator forced expiratory volume in 1 second(ppFEV1)at week 12 and in the score on the Asthma Control Questionnaire 7 Interviewer-Administered(ACQ-7-IA)at week *** points were evaluated in the two primary efficacy populations who had either a type 2 inflammatory asthma phenotype(≥150 blood eosinophils per cubic millimeter or a fraction of exhaled nitric oxide of≥20 ppb at baseline)or a blood eosinophil count of at least 300 cells per cubic millimeter at baseline.

AIM:To investigate the safety and efficacy of adding bevacizumab to first-line chemotherapy in metastatic colorectal cancer patients with peritoneal ***:We compared rates of gastrointestinal perforation in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer and peritoneal disease receiving first-line chemotherapy with and without bevacizumab in three distinct cohorts:(1) the AGITG MAX trial(Phase Ⅲ randomised clinical trial comparing capecitabine vs capecitabine and bevacizumab vs capecitabine,bevacizumab and mitomycin C);(2) the prospective Treatment of Recurrent and Advanced Colorectal Cancer(TRACC) registry(any first-line regimen ± bevacizumab);and(3) two cancer centres in New South Wales,Australia [Macarthur Cancer Therapy Centre and Liverpool Cancer Therapy Centre(NSWCC) from January 2005 to Decenber 2012,(any first-line regimen ± bevacizumab).For the AGITG MAX trial capecitabine was compared to the other two arms(capecitabine/bevacizumab and capecitabine/bevacizumab/mitomycin C).In the AGITG MAX trial and the TRACC registry rates of gastrointestinal perforation were also collected in patients who did not have peritoneal *** endpoints included progression-free survival,chemotherapy duration,and overall ***-toevent outcomes were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method and compared using the log-rank ***:Eighty-four MAX,179 TRACC and 69 NSWCC patients had peritoneal *** were no gastrointestinal perforations recorded in either the MAX subgroup or the NSWCC *** the patients without peritoneal disease in the MAX trial,4/300(1.3%) in the bevacizumab arms had gastrointestinal perforations compared to 1/123(0.8%) in the capecitabine alone *** the TRACC registry 3/126(2.4%) patients who had received bevacizumab had a gastrointestinal perforation compared to 1/53(1.9%) in the chemotherapy alone *** a further analysis of patients without peritoneal metastases in the TRACC registry,the rate of gastrointestinal p
