This study investigated clinical outcomes of biomimetic mineralized collagen artificial bone putty for bone reconstruction in the treatment of calcaneus *** cases of calcaneal fractures surgically treated with open reduction and internal fixation in our hospital from June 2014–2015 were chosen and randomly divided into two groups,including 30 cases treated with biomimetic mineralized collagen artificial bone putty as treatment group,and 30 cases treated with autogenous ilia as control *** average follow-up time was 17.263.0 *** results showed that the surgery duration and postoperative drainage volume of treatment group were significantly lower than control group;there were no statistically significant differences in the fracture healing time,American Orthopaedic foot and ankle Society scores at 3 and 12 months after surgery,Bo¨hler’s angle,Gissane’s angle and height of calcaneus between the two *** were no significant differences in wound complication and reject reaction between the two groups,while significant difference in donor site *** a conclusion,the implantation of biomimetic mineralized collagen artificial bone putty in the open reduction of calcaneal fracture resulted in reliable effect and less complications,which is suitable for clinical applications in the treatment of bone defect in calcaneal fractures.

Osteoarthritis (OA) poses a significant challenge in orthopedics. Inflammatory pathways are regarded as central mechanisms in the onset and progression of OA. Growing evidence suggests that senescence acts as a mediator in inflammation-induced OA. Given the lack of effective treatments for OA, there is an urgent need for a clearer understanding of its pathogenesis. In this review, we systematically summarize the cross-talk between cellular senescence and inflammation in OA. We begin by focusing on the mechanisms and hallmarks of cellular senescence, summarizing evidence that supports the relationship between cellular senescence and inflammation. We then discuss the mechanisms of interaction between cellular senescence and inflammation, including senescence-associated secretory phenotypes (SASP) and the effects of pro- and anti-inflammatory interventions on cellular senescence. Additionally, we focus on various types of cellular senescence in OA, including senescence in cartilage, subchondral bone, synovium, infrapatellar fat pad, stem cells, and immune cells, elucidating their mechanisms and impacts on OA. Finally, we highlight the potential of therapies targeting senescent cells in OA as a strategy for promoting cartilage regeneration.

Human Amniotic Allograft in Use on Talar Dome Lesions: A Prospective Report of 37 Patients

One of the most challenging joint conditions facing ankle surgeons today is the treatment of Osteochondritis Dissecans (OCD) of the talar dome. The use of human amniotic allograft (HAA) in various surgical procedures, has been proven to facilitate bone growth and both soft tissue and cartilage healing. The authors of this paper propose the addition of HAA to the surgical repair of talar dome lesions to improve postoperative results, specifically pain reduction. For the study, 37 patients were identified having an OCD lesion of the talus measuring no larger than 2 cm2. All patients were treated surgically with an arthroscopic micro-fracture repair along with the addition of HHA. Modified ACFAS ankle scores were taken pre-operatively and at 3 months, 12 months, and at 24 months postoperatively. Visual analog scores were also taken preoperative and 24 months postoperatively. The size of the talar lesions documented with pre-operative MRI’s was compared with intra-operative measurements for each patient. Additional surgical repairs, comorbidities and any complications were also recorded and evaluated. All patients were treated with micro-fracture with HAA. Postoperative ACFAS scores for 3 months, 12 months and 24 months were significantly improved (p < 0.0001) compared with average preoperative scores. Additionally, VAS scores were also significantly improved when comparing the average pre-operative (4.9) and post-operative (1.1) pain scores (p < 0.0001). The size of the lesions documented by pre-operative MRI correlated to intra-operative measurements. There were no identified complications. The addition of HAA to arthroscopic micro-fracture repair of talar dome lesions measuring less than 2 cm2?has shown to significantly improve both post-operative VAS scores, when compared to preoperative scores. This improvement in ACFAS and VAS scores speaks to the potential use of HAA in the treatment of OCD.

Copper is one of the essential trace elements for living beings,influencing several critical processes like cellular energy production,antioxidant defense,communication within cells,and the functioning of enzymes[1].The daily intake of copper is 0.7−3.0 mg/d,and copper homeostasis is strictly regulated by physiological processes,including duodenal and small intestinal uptake,blood transport,liver storage and release,and bile excretion,thereby maintaining copper homeostasis in the body[2],and many studies have confirmed that copper disorders in the body are associated with neurodegenerative,metabolic,and genetic diseases[3].

Lateral ankle instability is one of the most common and well-recognized conditions presenting to foot and ankle *** may exist as an isolated entity or in conjunction with other concomitant pathology,making it important to appropriately diagnose and identify other conditions that may need to be addressed as part of *** associated conditions may be a source of chronic pain,even when the instability has been appropriately treated,or may lead to failure of treatment by predisposing the patient to ankle inversion *** primary goal of this editorial is to provide a brief summary of the common techniques used in the delayed reconstruction of lateral ankle ligamentous injuries and present a method we have successfully employed for over 15 *** will also briefly discuss the diagnosis and treatment of the more common associated conditions,which are important to identify to achieve satisfactory results for the *** present the outcomes of 250 consecutive reconstructions performed over the last 10 years and describe our operative technique for addressing lateral ankle ligamentous injuries.

Total ankle replacement with INBONE-II prosthesis: A short-to-medium-term follow-up study in China

Background:Total ankle replacement(TAR)is a viable option for the treatment of end-stage ankle *** China,the INBONE-II implant is the only total ankle prosthesis approved since *** purpose of this study is to report a large sample of findings for the TAR with INBONE-II ***:A total of 64 patients with end-stage ankle arthritis,who underwent primary TAR using INBONE-II by the same surgeon from 2016 to 2019,at a single institution were included in this retrospective,single-center *** data,radiographic findings,survival rate,and complications were recorded and assessed pre-operatively and at the most recent ***:A total of 64 patients were available for follow-up at least 2 years after surgery;the mean follow-up duration for clinical outcomes was 37.9 months(24–59 months),and for radiographic findings was 22.8 months(12–59 months).There were significant improvements(Pfoot and ankle Society hindfoot scale,the visual analog scale for pain,and the Short *** were statistically significant differences between pre-operative and post-operative comparisons of the talar tilt angle(TT)and the tibial lateral surface angle(TLS)in the radiographic findings(TT from 4.7±4.3°to 1.3±1.3°,TLS from 80.4±7.7°to 87.4±2.3°,P<0.01).There was no statistically significant difference in improvement of the tibial anterior surface angle(P=0.14).Ten complications(all low grade)were recorded according to the Glazebrook classification *** survivorship of the prosthesis was 100%(64/64).Conclusion:Patients who underwent TAR with INBONE-II prosthesis demonstrated significant improvements in all measures of pain and function as well as in radiographic *** survival and a low incidence of complications were observed in this study.

In this study,we reported a case with collapse and subluxation of metatarsal-cuneiform joint,navicular-cuneiform joint with subluxed the right first metatarsophalangeal *** injured medial column was internally fixed with compression *** fusion site was firmed up with BonGoldVR Bone Sponge and Bone *** prognosis of fused navicular-cuneiform joint and metatarsal-cuneiform joint were examined by X-ray shortly after surgical operation and followed up 2,4,6,9 and 13 weeks after the surgical *** column was perfectly fused by compression *** results justified and favored the application of mineralized collagen as an excellent alternative to autograft in fusing the podarthral joints with internal fixation.
