Plasma Oxytocin and Arginine-Vasopressin Levels in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder in China: Associations with Symptoms

Autism spectrum disorder（ASD） is defined by impairments of social interaction and the presence of obsessive behaviors. The ＇＇twin＇＇ nonapeptides oxytocin（OXT） and arginine-vasopressin（AVP） are known to play regulatory roles in social behaviors. However, the plasma levels and behavioral relevance of OXT and AVP in children with ASD have seldom been investigated. It is also unknown whether their mothers have abnormal plasma peptide levels. Here, using well-established methods of neuropeptide measurement and a relatively large sample size, we determined the plasma levels of the two neuropeptides in 85 normal children, 84 children with ASD, and 31 mothers from each group of *** expected, children with ASD had lower plasma OXT levels than gender-matched controls（P = 0.028）. No such difference was found for plasma AVP concentrations. Correlation analysis showed that ASD children with higher plasma OXT concentrations tended to have less impairment of verbal communication（Rho =-0.22,P = 0.076）, while those with higher plasma AVP levels tended to have lower levels of repetitive use of objects（Rho =-0.231, P = 0.079）. Unlike the findings in children, maternal plasma OXT levels showed no group difference. However, plasma AVP levels in the mothers of ASD children tended to be lower than in the mothers of normal children（P = 0.072）. In conclusion, our results suggest that the OXT system is dysregulated in children with ASD, and that OXT and AVP levels in plasma seem to be associated with specific autistic symptoms. The plasma levels of OXT or AVP in mothers and their ASD children did not seem to change in the same direction.

Association and its population heterogeneities between low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and all-cause and cardiovascular mortality: A population-based cohort study

Background: The association and its population heterogeneities between low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and all-cause and cardiovascular mortality remain unknown. We aimed to examine the dose-dependent associations of LDL-C levels with specific types of cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality and heterogeneities in the associations among different population ***: A total of 2,968,462 participants aged 35-75 years from China health Evaluation And risk Reduction through nationwide Teamwork (ChinaHEART) (2014-2019) were included. Cox proportional hazard models and Fine-Gray subdistribution hazard models were used to estimate associations between LDL-C categories (group], 130.0-159.9, 160.0-189.9, and ≥190.0 mg/dL) and all-cause and cause-specific ***: During a median follow-up of 3.7 years, 57,391 and 23,241 deaths from all-cause and overall CVD were documented. We observed J-shaped associations between LDL-C and death from all-cause, overall CVD, coronary heart disease (CHD), and ischemic stroke, and an L-shaped association between LDL-C and hemorrhagic stroke (HS) mortality (P for non-linearity group (100.0-129.9 mg/dL), very low LDL-C levels (<70.0 mg/dL) were significantly associated with increased risk of overall CVD (hazard ratio [HR]: 1.10, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.06-1.14) and HS mortality (HR: 1.37, 95% CI: 1.29-1.45). Very high LDL-C levels (≥190.0 mg/dL) were associated with increased risk of overall CVD (HR: 1.51, 95% CI: 1.40-1.62) and CHD mortality (HR: 2.08, 95% CI: 1.92-2.24). The stronger associations of very low LDL-C with risk of CVD mortality were observed in individuals with older age, low or normal body mass index, low or moderate 10-year atherosclerotic CVD risk, and those without diagnosed CVD or taking statins. Objective This study aimed to investigate the effects of N,N-dimethylglycine(DMG) on the concentration and metabolism of plasma homocysteine(pHcy) in folate-sufficient and folate-deficient *** In this study, 0.1% DMG was supplemented in 20% casein diets that were either folatesufficient(20 C) or folate-deficient(20 CFD). Blood and liver of rats were subjected to assays of Hcy and its metabolites. Hcy and its related metabolite concentrations were determined using a liquid chromatographic *** Folate deprivation significantly increased pHcy concentration in rats fed 20 C diet(from 14.19 ±0.39 μmol/L to 28.49 ± 0.50 μmol/L;P group was significantly lower than that in the 20 C group;enzyme activity was unaffected by DMG supplementation regardless of folate sufficiency. The activity of hepatic cystathionine β-synthase(CBS) in the 20 CFD group was decreased but not in the 20 C group;DMG supplementation enhanced hepatic CBS activity in both groups, in which the effect was significant in the 20 C group but not in the other *** DMG supplementation exhibited hypohomocysteinemic effects under folate-sufficient conditions. By contrast, the combination of folate deficiency and DMG supplementation has deleterious effect on pHcy concentration.

Five‑year outcomes of EVO implantable collamer lens implantation for the correction of high myopia and super high myopia

Background:To evaluate the long-term safety,efficacy,predictability,and stability of implantable collamer lens with a central hole(EVO ICL)implantation for correcting high myopia(HM)and super high myopia(SHM).Methods:This prospective study evaluated 83 eyes of 46 patients who were divided into groups based on their spherical equivalent refractive error(SE):HM group(−12 D≤SEgroup(SEgroups were 1.03±0.10 and 1.32±0.39,and the efficacy indices were 0.83±0.25 and 0.86±0.32,*** the HM group,60.47%and 79.07%of the eyes were within±0.50 D and±1.00 D of the attempted correction,while it was achieved for 22.50%and 47.50%of the eyes in the SHM group,*** SE of the HM group decreased from−9.72±1.41 D preoperatively to 0.04±0.39 D 1 month postoperatively and−0.67±0.57 D 5 years postoperatively,while in the SHM group,it decreased from−15.78±3.06 D preoperatively to−0.69±0.97 D 1 month postoperatively and−1.74±1.19 D 5 years ***:EVO ICL implantation is safe,effective,and predictable for correcting HM and *** improved more after surgery for SHM,but the growth of axial length still needs attention.
