Spatiotemporal variation of land surface temperature and its driving factors in Xinjiang,China

Land surface temperature(LST) directly affects the energy balance of terrestrial surface systems and impacts regional resources, ecosystem evolution, and ecosystem structures. Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is located at the arid Northwest China and is extremely sensitive to climate change. There is an urgent need to understand the distribution patterns of LST in this area and quantitatively measure the nature and intensity of the impacts of the major driving factors from a spatial perspective, as well as elucidate the formation mechanisms. In this study, we used the MOD11C3 LST product developed on the basis of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS) to conduct regression analysis and determine the spatiotemporal variation and differentiation pattern of LST in Xinjiang from 2000 to 2020. We analyzed the driving mechanisms of spatial heterogeneity of LST in Xinjiang and the six geomorphic zones(the Altay Mountains, Junggar Basin, Tianshan Mountains, Tarim Basin, Turpan-Hami(Tuha) Basin, and Pakakuna Mountain group) using geographical detector(Geodetector) and geographically weighted regression(GWR) models. The warming rate of LST in Xinjiang during the study period was 0.24℃/10a, and the spatial distribution pattern of LST had obvious topographic imprints, with 87.20% of the warming zone located in the Gobi desert and areas with frequent human activities, and the cooling zone mainly located in the mountainous areas. The seasonal LST in Xinjiang was at a cooling rate of 0.09℃/10a in autumn, and showed a warming trend in other seasons. Digital elevation model(DEM), latitude, wind speed, precipitation, normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI), and sunshine duration in the single-factor and interactive detections were the key factors driving the LST changes. The direction and intensity of each major driving factor on the spatial variations of LST in the study area were heterogeneous. Local injection of bone morphogenetic protein 7 promotes neuronal regeneration and motor function recovery after acute spinal cord injury

After spinal cord injury,the number of glial cells and motor neurons expressing bone morphogenetic protein 7（BMP7）increases,indicating that upregulation of BMP7 can promote nerve repair.We,therefore,tested whether direct injection of BMP7 into acutely injured ratalalo createrywith 50 ng BMP7（BMP7 group）or physiological saline（control group）for 7 consecutive days.Electrophysiological examination showed that the amplitude of N1 in motor evoked potentials（MEP）decreased after spinal cord injury.At 8 weeks post-operation,the amplitude of N1 in the BMP7 group was remarkably higher than that at 1 week post-operation and was higher than that of the control group.Basso,Beattie,Bresnahan scale（BBB）scores,hematoxylin-eosin staining,and western blot assay showed that at 1,2,4 and 8 weeks post-operation,BBB scores were increased;Nissl body staining was stronger;the number of Nissl-stained bodies was increased;the number of vacuoles gradually decreased;the number of synapses was increased;and the expression of neuronal marker,neurofilament protein 200,was increased in the hind limbs of the BMP7 group compared with the control group.Western blot assay showed that the expression of GFAP protein in BMP7 group and control group did not change significantly and there was no significant difference between the BMP7 and control groups.These data confirmed that local injection of BMP7 can promote neuronal regeneration after spinal cord injury and promote recovery of motor function in rats.

Elastoplastic model for discontinuous shear deformation of deep rock mass

Deep rock mass possesses some unusual properties due to high earth stress,which further result in new problems that have not been well understood and explained up to date.In order to investigate the deformation mechanism,the complete deformation process of deep rock mass,with a great emphasis on local shear deformation stage,was analyzed in detail.The quasi continuous shear deformation of the deep rock mass is described by a combination of smooth functions:the averaged distribution of the original deformation field,and the local discontinuities along the slip lines.Hence,an elasto-plastic model is established for the shear deformation process,in which the rotational displacement is taken into account as well as the translational component.Numerical analysis method was developed for case study.Deformation process of a tunnel under high earth stress was investigated for verification.

Clinical and immune response characteristics among vaccinated persons infected with SARS-CoV-2 delta variant:a retrospective study

Objective:This study aimed to observe the clinical and immune response characteristics of vaccinated persons infected with the delta variant of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)in Yangzhou,China.Methods:We extracted the medical data of 129 patients with delta-variant infection who were admitted to Northern Jiangsu People’s Hospital(Yangzhou,China)between August and September,2021.The patients were grouped according to the number of vaccine doses received into an unvaccinated group:a one-dose group and a two-dose group.The vaccine used was SARS-CoV-2-inactivated vaccine developed by Sinovac.We retrospectively analyzed the patients’epidemiological,clinical,laboratory,and imaging data.Results:Almost all patients with delta-variant infection in Yangzhou were elderly,and patients with severe/critical illness were over 70 years of age.The rates of severe/critical illness(P=0.006),fever(P=0.025),and dyspnea(P=0.045)were lower in the two-dose group than in the unvaccinated group.Compared to the unvaccinated group,the two-dose group showed significantly higher lymphocyte counts and significantly lower levels of C-reactive protein(CRP),interleukin-6(IL-6),and D-dimer during hospitalization and a significantly higher positive rate of immunoglobulin G(IgG)antibodies at admission(all Pgroup than in the unvaccinated group(P<0.05).Conclusions:Two doses of the SARS-CoV-2-inactivated vaccine were highly effective at limiting symptomatic disease and reducing immune response,while a single dose did not seem to be effective.

Effect of acoustic stimuli in patients with disorders of consciousness: a quantitative electroencephalography study

Auditory stimuli are proposed as beneficial neurorehabilitation methods in patients with disorders of consciousness. However, precise and accurate quantitative indices to estimate their potential effect remain scarce. Fourteen patients were recruited from the Neuro-Rehabilitation Unit of Hangzhou Hospital of Zhejiang Armed Police corps of China. Altogether, there were seven cases of unresponsive wakefulness syndrome（five males and two females, aged 45.7 ± 16.8 years） and seven cases of minimally conscious state（six males and one female, aged 42.3 ± 20.8 years）. Simultaneously, fourteen healthy controls（10 males and 4 females, aged 51.7 ± 9.7 years） also participated in this case-control experiment. Brain response to music, subjects＇ own name, and noise was monitored by quantitative electroencephalography（QEEG） in the resting state and with acoustic stimulation. Predictive QEEG values in various brain regions were investigated. Our results show that cerebral activation was high in subjects stimulated by their own name, especially in the temporal lobe in patients with disorders of consciousness, and the frontal lobe in the control group. Further, during resting and stimulation, QEEG index（δ ＋ θ/α ＋ β ratio） negatively correlated with the Coma Recovery Scale-Revised score in traumatic disorders of consciousness patients. Hence, we speculate that a subject＇s own name might be an effective awakening therapy for patients with disorders of consciousness. Moreover, QEEG index in specific stimulation states may be used as a prognostic indicator for disorders of consciousness patients（sensitivity, 75%; specificity, 50%）.

Multi-group ant colony algorithm based on simulated annealing method

To overcome the default of single search tendency, the ants in the colony are divided into several sub-groups. The ants in different subgroups have different trail information and expectation coefficients. The simulated annealing method is introduced to the algorithm. Through setting the temperature changing with the iterations, after each turn of tours, the solution set obtained by the ants is taken as the candidate set. The update set is obtained by adding the solutions in the candidate set to the previous update set with the probability determined by the temperature. The solutions in the candidate set are used to update the trail information. In each turn of updating, the current best solution is also used to enhance the trail information on the current best route. The trail information is reset when the algorithm is in stagnation state. The computer experiments demonstrate that the proposed algorithm has higher stability and convergence speed.

Influence Factors of Heat Transfer of Unattached Rectangular Underground Engineering Envelope

Using a mathematical model of heat transfer of unattached underground engineering envelope, the calculation area was divided into 14 rectangular blocks according to the interzone temperature profile estimation (ITPE) technology, and the solutions were obtained for all the parts using the technique of variable separation. The Fourier coefficients are determined based on the continuity of the heat flux and boundary conditions, as a result, a system of linear equation group including 26N equations has been obtained. By changing the parameters, the influence of heat characteristics of envelope building material and soil, temperature of earth surface and heat transfer coefficient between air and wall on heat course of the envelope has been quantitatively analyzed.

Background: Evidence shows an association between grip strength and health;however, grip strength cut-offs for the detection of metabolic syndrome(MetS) in Latin American populations are scarce. The purpose of this study was to determine cut-offs of normalized grip strength(NGS)for the detection of MetS in a large nonrepresentative sample of a collegiate student population from Colombia.Methods: A total of 1795 volunteers(61.4% female;age = 20.68 ± 3.10 years, mean ± SD), ranging between 18 and 30 years of age participated in the study. Strength was estimated using a handheld dynamometer and normalized to body mass(handgrip strength(kg)/body mass(kg)). Anthropometrics, serum lipids indices, blood pressure, and fasting plasma glucose were measured. Body composition was measured by bioelectrical impedance analysis. MetS was defined as including ≥3 of the 5 metabolic abnormalities according to the International Diabetes Federation definition. A metabolic risk score was computed from the following components: waist circumference, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, glucose, and systolic and diastolic blood pressure.Results: Receiver operating curve analysis showed significant discriminatory accuracy of NGS in identifying the thresholds and risk categories.Lower strength was associated with increased prevalence of MetS. In males, weak, intermediate, and strong NGS values at these points were0.615, respectively. In females, these cut-off points were 0.437, respectively.Conclusion: Our sex-specific cut-offs of NGS could be incorporated into a clinical setting for identifying college students at cardiometabolic disease risk.

Studies on Human Fetal Lens Crystallins Under Oxidative Stress and Protective Effects of Tea Polyphenols

Purpose: To investigate the oxidative modification of water-soluble crystallins of human fetal lens with H2O2 and fourteen metal ions with or without EDTA. Tea-polyphenols (TP) was added to above solutions in order to testing their antioxidative abilities. Methods: The experiments were performed at 37℃ with final concentration of 2.5mg/ml protein, 0.1 mM metal ions, 0.3 mM EDTA and 1.0 mM H2O2. Then the TP was added to the solution with CuSO4 and H2O2, after 5 or 24 hours, the crystallins were analysed with SDS-PAGE and IEF.Results : There were marked oxidative modifications of lens protein in H2O2 and copper without EDTA. In SDS-PAGE patterns, we found an increase in those species above of bands higher than 30 kD and some diffuse bands from 30 to 17 kD after 5 hours. In IEF patterns, there were a general increase on acidity with loss of the more basic species. Comparison of Central Corneal Thickness using Ultrasound Pachymetry during Corneal Collagen Cross-linking

Purpose:To study variation in central corneal thickness (CCT) during corneal collagen cross-linking(CXL) using ultrasound pachymetry. Methods:Twenty patients (26 eyes) with progressing keratoconus undergoing riboflavin-UVA-induced CXL were involved in this study. Intraoperative CCT measurement using ultrasonic pachymetry was performed during the procedure.Measurements were obtained before operation, after epithelial removal, after riboflavin drop instillation, and after UVA irradiation. Results:Mean CCT was 495±56 and 450±52 μm before and after epithelial removal, respectively. Mean CCT was 443±42 and 411±39 μm after riboflavin drop instillation and after UVA irradiation, respectively. Statistically significant decreases in CCT occurred between the preoperative period and after epithelial removal, after riboflavin drop instillation and after UVA irradiation. Twenty-six eyes from 20 patients undergoing CXL were divided into 2 groups (I with CCT≥400 μm after UVA irradiation and II with CCTgroup II (P<0.05). Conclusion:Performing CXL with the use of riboflavin and UVA irradiation resulted in a statistically significant decrease in CCT, to a level where the corneal endothelium may be damaged.(Eye Science 2013; 28:15-19)
