Migration and population structure characteristics of the small yellow croaker Larimichthys polyactis in the southern Yellow Sea

Monthly fishery survey data of the small yellow croaker Larimichthys polyactis in the southern Yellow Sea from2003 and 2013 were employed to evaluate the variation in the resource distribution and biological characteristics（especially body length and sex ratio） in the population on a decadal *** results indicated that the small yellow croaker migrated from the Shawai fishing ground to the Dasha fishing ground in spring and was mainly distributed in the central and western parts of the Dasha fishing ground in April and *** polyactis in the Dasha fishing ground migrated eastward to offshore wintering grounds in autumn and reached the central Dasha fishing ground in October and *** small yellow croaker entered the western waters of the Shawai fishing ground in winter.A large number of age 0＋ fish occurred in the Shawai and Jiangwai fishing grounds in October of 2003 and *** body lengths of the spawning stock and wintering stock in 2013 were larger than those in 2003,and the monthly sex ratios（female to male） were significantly less than 1 in both *** monthly distribution of this fish in the southern Yellow Sea was consistent with a previous finding that ＂the stock migrated between the wintering grounds in the west of Jeju Island and the Lüsi spawning grounds＂ but tended to move more northward,with the spawning grounds extending *** the past decade,body length variation experienced a decline after an increase,rather than a steady *** sex ratio in the single-stick stow net showed a tendency to increase over the decade,but was either less than or more than 1 depending on the fishing gear;therefore,further studies should be conducted to determine the sex structure.

The seasonal variation of the North Pacific Meridional Overturning Circulation heat transport

Based on the 50-year Simple Ocean Data Assimilation (SODA) reanalysis data, we investigated the basic characteristics and seasonal changes of the meridional heat transport carried by the North Pacific Meridional Overturning Circulation. And we also examined the dynamical and thermodynamic mechanisms responsible for these heat transport variability at the seasonal time scale. Among four cells, the tropical cell (TC) is strongest with a northward heat transport (NHT) of (1.75±0.30) PW (1 PW=1.0×10^15 W) and a southward heat transport (SHT) of (-1.69±0.55) PW, the subtropical cell (STC) is second with a NHT of (0.71±0.65) PW and SHT of (-0.63±0.53) PW, the deep tropical cell (DTC) is third with a NHT of (0.18±0.03) PW and SHT of (-0.18±0.11) PW, while the subpolar cell (SPC) is weakest with a NHT of (0.09±0.05) PW and SHT of (-0.07±0.09) PW. These four cells all have diff erent seasonal changes in their NHT and SHT. Of all, the TC has stronger change in its SHT than in its NHT, so do both the DTC and SPC, but the seasonal change in the STC SHT is weaker than that in its NHT. Therefore, their dynamical and thermodynamic mechanisms are diff erent each other. The local zonal wind stress and net surface heat flux are mainly responsible for the seasonal changes in the TC and STC NHTs and SPC SHT, while the local thermocline circulations and sea temperature are primarily responsible for the seasonal changes of the TC, STC and DTC SHTs and SPC NHT.

Complex plasma fluctuation processes have been extensively studied in many aspects,especially lattice waves in strongly coupled plasma crystals,which are of great significance for understanding fundamental physical phenomena.A challenge of experimental investigations in two-dimensional strongly coupled complex plasma crystals is to keep the main body and foreign particles of different masses on the same horizontal *** solve the problem,we have proposed a potential well formed by two negatively biased grids to bind the negatively charged particles in a two-dimensional(2D)plane,thus achieving a 2D plasma crystal in the microgravity *** study of such phenomena in complex plasma crystals under microgravity environment then becomes *** this paper,we focus on the continuum spectrum,including both phonon and optic branches of the impurity mode in a 2D system in microgravity *** results show the dispersion relation of the longitudinal and transverse impurity oscillation modes and their *** the macroscopic visibility of complex mesoscopic particle lattices,theoretical and experimental studies on this kind of complex plasma systems will help us further understand the physical nature of a wide range of condensed matters.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)pollution,particularly in coastal environments,is a global *** this study,the biomonitoring and ranking effects of PAHs in the rockfish Sebastiscus marmoratus were determined in the Maowei Sea,*** results showed that the concentrations of the 16 priority PAHs detected in the surface seawater were moderate compared with those in other coastal areas worldwide,and the possible sources were rapid industrialization and urbanization combined with atmospheric deposition and *** analysis of variance(ANOVA)suggested significant differences in the hepatic ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase(EROD)activities and phenanthrene-derived metabolites in bile between the port area and the oyster farming *** fish expert system(FES)was applied to evaluate the biological effects of PAHs on *** FES data demonstrated that the biological effect levels of Site S1(level III,medium stress)were higher than those of the other sampling sites(level II,low stress).

Lettuce is an important leafy vegetable that represents a significant dietary source of antioxidants and bioactive ***,the levels of metabolites in different lettuce cultivars are poorly *** this study,we used combined GC×GC-TOF/MS and UPLC-IMS-QTOF/MS to detect and relatively quantify metabolites in 30 lettuce cultivars representing large genetic *** with online databases,the published literature,standards as well using collision cross-section values enabled putative identification of 171 *** of these 171 metabolites(including phenolic acid derivatives,glycosylated flavonoids,and one iridoid)were present at significantly different levels in leaf and head type lettuces,which suggested the significant metabolomic variations between the leaf and head types of lettuce are related to secondary metabolism.A combination of the results and metabolic network analysis techniques suggested that leaf and head type lettuces contain not only different levels of metabolites but also have significant variations in the corresponding associated metabolic *** novel lettuce metabolite library and novel non-targeted metabolomics strategy devised in this study could be used to further characterize metabolic variations between lettuce cultivars or other ***,the findings of this study provide important insight into metabolic adaptations due to natural and human selection,which could stimulate further research to potentially improve lettuce quality,yield,and nutritional value.

Factors affecting the pilot trading market of carbon emissions in China

Climate change and carbon emissions are major problems which are attracting worldwide attention. China has had its pilot carbon emission trading markets in seven regions for more than 3 years. What affects carbon emission trading market in China is a big question. More attention is paid to how China promotes the carbon emission trading schemes in the whole country. This paper addresses concerns about the functioning of carbon emission trading schemes in seven pilot regions and takes the weekly data from November 25, 2013, to March 19, 2017. We employ a vector autoregressive model to study how coal price, oil price and stock index have affected the carbon price in China. The results indicate that carbon price is mainly affected by its own historical price; coal price and stock index have negative effects on carbon price, while oil price has a negative effect on carbon price during the first 3 weeks and then has a positive effect on carbon price. More regulatory attention and economic measures are needed to improve market efficiency, and the mechanisms of carbon emission trading schemes should be improved.

Spider monkey optimization(SMO)is a quite popular and recent swarm intelligence algorithm for numerical *** is Fission-Fusion social structure based algorithm inspired by spider monkey’s *** algorithm proves to be very efficient in solving various constrained and unconstrained optimization *** paper presents the application of SMO in fog *** propose a heuristic initialization based spider monkey optimization algorithm for resource allocation and scheduling in a fog computing *** algorithm minimizes the total cost(service time and monetary cost)of tasks by choosing the optimal fog *** job fastest processor(LJFP),shortest job fastest processor(SJFP),and minimum completion time(MCT)based initialization of SMO are proposed and compared with each *** performance is compared based on the parameters of average cost,average service time,average monetary cost,and the average cost per *** results demonstrate the efficacy of MCT-SMO as compared to other heuristic initialization based SMO algorithms and Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO).

Effects of Desalination Processes on the Water Circulation and Earth System

Desalination is emerging as a promising alternative among various technologies to resolve water shortage. However, desalination requires a sufficient energy and cooling device and therefore poses limitations for its installation and application. In particular, many countries suffering water deficits are economically underdeveloped and cannot afford the technology. As this technology, which changes seawater into freshwater, has little environmental impact, developed countries will need to assist less developed countries to introduce this technology as a humanitarian effort. This will help reduce the number of countries that have experienced difficulty with development.
