Nonlinear flow numerical simulation of low-permeability reservoir

A nonlinear flow reservoir mathematical model was established based on the flow characteristic of low-permeability *** well-grid equations were deduced and the dimensionless permeability coefficient was introduced to describe the permeability variation of nonlinear *** nonlinear flow numerical simulation program was compiled based on black-oil model.A quarter of five-spot well unit was simulated to study the effect of nonlinear flow on the exploitation of low-permeability *** comprehensive comparison and analysis of the simulation results of Darcy flow,quasi-linear flow and nonlinear flow were *** dimensionless permeability coefficient distribution was gained to describe the nonlinear flow *** result shows that compared with the results of Darcy flow,when considering nonlinear flow,the oil production is low,and production decline is *** fluid flow in reservoir consumes more driving energy,which reduces the water flooding *** flow model overstates the reservoir flow capability,and quasi-linear flow model overstates the reservoir flow *** flow ability of the formation near the well and artificial fracture is strong while the flow ability of the formation far away from the main streamline is *** nonlinear flow area is much larger than that of quasi-linear flow during the fluid flow in low-permeability *** water propelling speed of nonlinear flow is greatly slower than that of Darcy flow in the vertical direction of artificial fracture,and the nonlinear flow should be taken into account in the well pattern arrangement of low-permeability reservoir.

The Influence of Acid on the RockMechanical Characteristics of Deep Shale in theWujiaping Formation

The microscopic characteristics and mechanical properties of rocks change after the action of acid on deep shale,which affects the fracturing ***,we designed and conducted indoor experiments related to the changes in macro and microscopic characteristics after the interaction of acid with the shale of Wujiaping Formation,based on which the characteristic law of fracture volume modification after acid fracturing was studied using numerical *** results demonstrate that the pores and fractures are enlarged and the structure is significantly loosened after the acid *** a 15%concentration of hydrochloric acid can effectively dissolve ***,the degree of acid-etching reaction is highly variable because of the different carbonate content,which reveals the strong inhomogeneity of the shale system in the Wujiaping Group reservoir *** the acid interacted with the shale rock samples,the triaxial compressive strength,elastic modulus,and Poisson’s ratio of shale ***,the evaluation of the effect after acid fracturing simulated by fracturing software revealed that the smaller the value of elastic modulus in shale-based reservoirs,the more favorable the fracture volume *** discovery not only provides a theoretical basis for the expansion and extension patterns of acid-fracturing in carbonaceous shale formations but also offers research methods and theoretical insights for the fundamental exploration of other deep-seated oil and gas resources.

Detection of a mud volcano in the Weitan Banks area of the northern South China Sea

Situated between the petroliferous Cenozoic Zhujiang(Pearl)River Mouth Basin and the mud volcano-rich Mesozoic Dongsha Basin in the middle sector of the northern South China Sea,the Weitan Banks area has been previously mapped as a basement high that is composed of Mesozoic magmatic *** this study,we present several favorable indicators for petroleum geology that were detected from geophysical profiling and benthic sampling in the area.A conspicuous hill was discovered,named“Zhongwei Hill”,~80 m high above the~340 m deep seafloor and~1 km broad,in a depression with more than 7 km thick sedimentary *** Zhongwei Hill was seismically imaged with a mushroom-shaped structure and containing a cake-like crown,fluid flow pipes,and an~10 km broad anticline at ***,the hill represents a source-plumbing-eruption *** gas zones linked to deep fracture were found at or near the *** correlation indicates that the deep strata comprise the Jurassic and Paleogene strata,the major hosts of hydrocarbon source *** addition to the hill,there are number of mounds from which three bottom water samples were collected and the samples are rich in dissolved methane with concentrations high up to~900 nmol/L,much higher than the background level(0.5–2 nmol/L).The benthic samples are rich in coarse sediment clastics,authigenic carbonate nodules,and deep-water habitats likely feeding on methanotrophic *** these observations and the context,we propose that the Zhongwei Hill represents a mud volcano,likely thermally driven,that seeps methane from Jurassic and Paleogene source layers,thus poses a favorable clue for significant hydrocarbon generation capacity in transitional zone of the Zhujiang River Mouth Basin and the Dongsha Basin.

The ternary combination of polymer gel, microsphere and surfactant for conformance control and oil displacement to improve oil recovery in strong heterogeneous reservoir

The reservoir heterogeneity of Suizhong 36-1 oilfield is very obvious,the average permeability reaches ***-term water injection development leads to serious water channeling in high permeability layers,resulting in ineffective circulation of injected water and reduction of oil *** is urgent to form an effective EOR *** this paper,the oil displacement effect of different combination slugs including polymer gel,polymer microsphere and surfactant is evaluated by means of conformance control and chemical ***-layer heterogeneous 3-D plate model is used for oil displacement *** experimental results show that the combination slug sequentially composed of polymer gel,polymer microspheres and surfactant have the best oil displacement effect with the oil recovery increment by 21.2% after the first water *** addition,using the best slug combination for two rounds flooding,the recovery factor increased by 28.2% compared with the first water *** paper provides some new insights for enhanced oil recovery in strong heterogeneity reservoir.

The effect of thermal fluid derived from mud diapir on sandstone reservoirs in the Yinggehai Basin, South China Sea

The underground thermal fluid is one of the significant factors controlling the formation and quality of *** Huangliu Formation(N_(1)h)in YF1 area of the central depression belt in the Yinggehai Basin,South China Sea,is characterized by intense thermal fluid activities related to mud diapir and large-scale shallow-water gravity flow *** multi-episodic invasion of high-temperature and CO_(2)-rich thermal fluid into the formation induces complex water-rock reaction during diagenetic pro-cess,providing a preferable investigation opportunity for revealing how thermal fluid affects reservoir *** study characterizes the reservoirs in the formation through core and thin section analyses as well as physical property *** reservoirs are dominated by fine-grained sandstone characterized by medium porosity(15.2-21.3%)and lower permeability(0.56-15.75mD).Based on an analysis of casting thin section,cathode luminescence(CL),scanning electron microscope(SEM),carbon and oxygen isotope,inclusion test,and electron-probe microanalysis(EPMA),we systematically investigate the diagenetic patterns and pore evolution process for the reservoirs in the *** episodic invasion of thermal fluid occurred approximately 0.4 Ma ago plays an important role in controlling reservoir development:The CO_(2)-rich formation water induces massive late-stage dissolution,resulting in a higher proportion of dissolved pores(38.7-46.4%),which improves the porosity of reservoirs at a depth of 2600-3100 ***,the late dissolution together with carbonate cementation occurred in closed diagenetic system blocks most seepage ***,the relatively high level clay mineral transformation in the YF1 area leads to a higher content of authigenic illite(44-62%)in the *** authigenic illite severely blocks the pore throats in fine sandstone,reducing *** study offers an insight to the understanding of mud diapir-derived thermal fluid

Revolutionizing Tight Reservoir Production: A Novel Dual-Medium Unsteady Seepage Model for Optimizing Volumetrically Fractured Horizontal Wells

Paleo-oil reservoir is of great importance to understand hydrocarbon enrichment mechanism and hydrocarbon exploration potential,but is yet poorly investigated in Kuqa *** occurrence of the paleo-oil reservoir in Dabei area was proved by quantitative grain fluorescence(QGF)and fluid inclusion *** history of the paleo-oil reservoir was reconstructed through:(1)oil-source correlation;(2)time coupling of source rock maturation,porosity evolution and migration *** impact of paleo-oil reservoir on tight-gas accumulation was consequently *** suggest that considerable oil was accumulated in the K_(1)bs reservoir with paleo oil-water contact in Dabei 2 Well and Dabei 201 Well at 5800 and 6040 m,*** oil was primarily sourced from Triassic source rocks with Jurassic source rocks of secondary importance,which was at oil generation window(0.7%–1.1%Ro)during 9–6 and 7.5–5 Ma,*** occurrence of K_(1)bs tight reservoir(porosity<12%)was about 25 Ma,while faults and associated fractures at Kelasue structural belt were developed approximately from 8 to 3.5 ***,the tight oil accumulation was formed during 8–5 *** paleo-oil reservoir in Dabei 1 gas field was destroyed by the evaporation fractionation in later stage.

Study and Application of Horizontal Well Productivity Formula with Continuous Time-Varying Considered

The horizontal well technology has been widely applied to enhanced oil recovery for low permeability and heavy oil reservoir. It is the important basis for designing and optimizing horizontal well to determine the productivity. The productivity determination of horizontal wells in offshore oil fields is mainly based on the actual productivity data of producing directional wells in the similar reservoirs nearby. Considering pressure drop and oil layer thickness to calculate the productivity, this method lacks certain theoretical basis and requires rich working experience for reservoir engineers. The other method is Joshi Formula which needs the known horizontal well control radius to be known. But the control radius is man-made at certain degree. In order to address the shortcomings of existing methods, a new reservoir engineering method was proposed to determine the horizontal well productivity formula, horizontal flow pattern and control radius based on the principle of equivalent flow resistance and conformal transformation. This method has overcome the disadvantage of determining on person. It provided some theoretical basis for getting the horizontal well productivity and is of some guiding meaning for evaluating the productivity of adjustment wells and development wells.

Integrated generation-transmission expansion planning for offshore oilfield power systems based on genetic Tabu hybrid algorithm

To address the planning issue of offshore oil-field power systems, an integrated generation-transmission expansion planning model is proposed. The outage cost is considered and the genetic Tabu hybrid algorithm(GTHA)is developed to find the optimal solution. With the proposed integrated model, the planning of generators and transmission lines can be worked out simultaneously,which outweighs the disadvantages of separate planning,for instance, unable to consider the influence of power grid during the planning of generation, or insufficient to plan the transmission system without enough information of generation. The integrated planning model takes into account both the outage cost and the shipping cost, which makes the model more practical for offshore oilfield power systems. The planning problem formulated based on the proposed model is a mixed integer nonlinear programming problem of very high computational complexity, which is difficult to solve by regular mathematical methods. A comprehensive optimization method based on GTHA is also developed to search the best solution ***, a case study on the planning of a 50-bus offshore oilfield power system is conducted, and the obtained results fully demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented model and method.
