Bifunctional bridging capping layer enables 24.5% efficiency of perovskite solar cells with polymer-based hole transport materials

Developing a bridge capping layer between perovskite and hole transport layer materials（HTMs） in the n-i-p perovskite solar cells（pero-SCs） is an effective approach to modify the morphology of HTMs and passivate the perovskite ***, we select the quinoxaline-based bifunctional passivation agent, quinoxalin-6-yl-methylamine hydrochloride（Qx MACl）,as the bridging layer, and a D-A copolymer PBQ12 containing the same quinoxaline unit as an HTM for the n-i-p pero-SCs. Due to the π-π stacking among the common quinoxaline units in the bridge layer and HTM, Qx MACl induces the π-π stacking of the PBQ12 film and improves the film morphology of HTMs with better conductivity. Additionally, Qx MACl can effectively passivate the perovskite surface, and PBQ12 possesses appropriate energy levels and high hole mobility. The pero-SCs based on FAPbI3with PBQ12/Qx MACl treatment showed a higher power conversion efficiency（PCE） of 24.05% and outstanding stability, maintaining 95.4% and 92.1% of its initial PCE after 750 h of storage and after over 800 h of thermal annealing at 85 °C, respectively. To further enhance the PCE of the PBQ12/Qx MACl-based devices, we developed a non-metal ion dopant for the PBQ12 HTM. Through trace doping of PBQ12 HTM by the non-metal ion dopant, the PCE of the PBQ12/Qx MACl-based devices reached 25.24%（the calibrated PCE of 24.55% by the National Institute of Metrology, China）.

Harnessing the Streptomyces-originating type I-E CRISPR/cas system for efficient genome editing in Streptomyces

Since their discovery,CRISPR/cas systems have significantly expanded the genetic toolbox,aiding in the exploration and enhanced production of natural products across various *** these,class 2 CRISPR/cas systems are simpler and more broadly used,but they frequently fail to function effectively in many Streptomyces *** this study,we present an engineered class 1 type I CRISPR/cas system derived from Streptomyces avermitilis,which enables efficient gene editing in phylogenetically distant Streptomyces *** a plasmid interference assay,we identified the effective protospacer adjacent motif as 5′-AAN-3′.Utilizing this system,we achieved targeted chromosomal deletions ranging from 8 bp to 100 kb,with efficiencies exceeding 92%.We further utilized this system to insert DNA fragments into different Streptomyces genomes,facilitating the heterologous expression of exogenous genes and the activation of endogenous natural product biosynthetic gene ***,we established a type I CRISPR/cas-based gene-editing methodology that significantly advances the exploration of Streptomyces,known for their rich natural product *** is the first report of a gene editing tool developed based on the endogenous class 1 type I CRISPR/cas system in Streptomyces *** work enriches the Streptomyces gene manipulation toolbox and advances the discovery of valuable natural products within these organisms.

Prospects on mangrove knowledge services in the smart era: From plant atlas to knowledge graphs

Mangroves are crucial to the ecological security of the Earth and human well-being. Their management, conservation, and restoration are of great importance and necessitate the support of spatio-temporal information and multidisciplinary knowledge such as biology and ecology. Traditional knowledge services such as plant atlas provide illustrated textual knowledge of mangroves. However, this kind of service is oriented to information retrieval and is incapable of effectively mining and utilizing fragmented knowledge from multi-source heterogeneous data, facing the problem of “massive data, rare knowledge”. Knowledge graphs are capable of extracting, organizing, and fusing the knowledge contained in massive data into semantic networks that can be understood and computed by computers. They provide a solution for the realization of intelligent knowledge services. Focusing on the urgent need for mangrove knowledge acquisition, formal representation, and intelligent services, this paper proposes a research prospect on mangrove knowledge graphs and knowledge services. We first analyze the similarities and differences between various domain-specific concepts of Tupu. On this basis, we define the mangrove knowledge graph as a large-scale knowledge base that integrates multi-disciplinary knowledge and spatio-temporal information with mangrove ecosystems as the core. Then, we propose a research framework for mangrove knowledge services that can realize the transformation from multi-modal data to intelligent knowledge services, including multiple research levels such as ubiquitous data sensing and aggregation, knowledge organization and graph construction, and intelligent mangrove knowledge services. Subsequently, the methods and workflow for constructing mangrove knowledge graphs are introduced. Finally, we discuss the challenges and possible future directions of mangrove knowledge services in the smart era, including the construction of a mangrove knowledge system that integra

Earliest fossil fruit record of the genus Paliurus(Rhamnaceae) in Eastern Asia

The genus Paliurus is characterized by its distinctive orbicular-winged fruits and a trilocular(or bilocular) ovary. Macrofossil records suggested this genus was distributed widely in North America, Europe, and Asia during the Paleogene and Neogene, before its present limitation to Eurasia. In this study, we describe some Paliurus fossil winged fruits from the lower part of Youganwo Formation(middle Eocene) and Huangniuling Formation(late Eocene) of the Maoming Basin, South China. These fruits are recognized as Paliurus favonii Unger based on a detailed study on the fossil morphology and cuticle characteristics. This represents the earliest occurrence of Paliurus fossil fruits in eastern Asia, and to date is the world's lowest latitude appearance for this genus. The most ancient records of Paliurus throughout the world are from the middle Eocene of North America and the late Eocene of Japan, leading some researchers to conclude the Paliurus may have originated in North America. Molecular data, however, do not support this hypothesis. The present Paliurus fossil fruits provide new evidence for the origin and phytogeographic history of this genus.

Asplenium sanshuiense sp. nov.:the Lowest Latitude Fossil Record of the Genus

Extant Asplenium is one of the most widespread fern groups and occurs in the temperate and tropical regions. However, the fossil records of this genus are poorly documented, especially in the low latitudes. Here, a new species, Asplenium sanshuiense sp. nov. is described from the early Eocene of Sanshui Basin, guangdong Province, South China. This is the lowest modern latitude fossil record of Asplenium and the first fossil assignment of A. section Darea （Jussieu） Bak., as well as the first fossil record of Asplenium reported from South China. This new species shows that Asplenium had already spread into South China by the early Eocene and the section Darea （Jussieu） Bak. was identifiable within the genus Asplenium during that time. This new species, combined with previous fossil spore-pollen records indicates a warm and humid climate in the Sanshui Basin of the early Eocene.

Two decades of suspect evidence for adaptive molecular evolution——negative selection confounding positive-selection signals

There has been a large literature in the last two decades affirming adaptive DNA sequence evolution between *** main lines of evidence are from(i) the McDonald-Kreitman(MK) test,which compares divergence and polymorphism data,and(ii) the phylogenetic analysis by maximum likelihood(PAML) test,which analyzes multispecies divergence ***,we apply these two tests concurrently to genomic data of Drosophila and *** our surprise,the> 100 genes identified by the two tests do not overlap beyond random *** the non-concordance could be due to low powers leading to high false negatives,we merge every 20-30 genes into a 'supergene'.At the supergene level,the power of detection is large but the calls still do not *** rule out methodological reasons for the *** particular,extensive simulations fail to find scenarios whereby positive selection can only be detected by either MK or PAML,but not *** molecular evolution is governed by positive and negative selection concurrently,a fundamental assumption for estimating one of these(say,positive selection) is that the other is ***,in a broad survey of primates,birds,Drosophila and Arabidopsis,we found that negative selection rarely stays constant for long in *** a consequence,the variation in negative selection is often misconstrued as a signal of positive *** conclusion,MK,PAML and any method that examines genomic sequence evolution has to explicitly address the variation in negative selection before estimating positive *** a companion study,we propose a possible path forward in two stages—first,by mapping out the changes in negative selection and then using this map to estimate positive *** now,the large literature on positive selection between species has to await reassessment.

Grass phasiRNAs and male fertility

Recent studies have indicated that a special type of small noncoding RNAs, phased small-interfering RNAs(phasiRNAs) play crucial roles in many cellular processes of plant development. PhasiRNAs are generated from long RNA precursors at intervals of 21 or 24 nt in plants, and they are produced from both protein-coding gene and long noncoding RNA genes. Different from those in eudicots, grass phasiRNAs include a special class of small RNAs that are specifically expressed in reproductive *** grass phasiRNAs are associated with gametogenesis, especially with anther development and male fertility. In this review,we summarized current knowledge on these small noncoding RNAs in male germ cells and their possible biological functions and mechanisms in grass species.

Identification of rice cultivars with low brown rice mixed cadmium and lead contents and their interactions with the micronutrients iron,zinc,nickel and manganese

Paddy fields in mining areas are usually co-contaminated by a cocktail of mixed toxic heavy metals （e.g., Cd and Pb in Pb/Zn mines）. However, previous studies on rice cultivars screened for effective metal exclusion have mostly focused on individual metals, and have been conducted under pot-trial or hydroponic solution conditions. This study identified rice cultlvars with both low Cd and Pb accumulation under Cd- and Pb-contaminated field conditions, and the interactions of the toxic elements Cd and Pb with the micronutrient elements Fe, Zn, Mn and Ni were also studied. Among 32 rice cultivars tested, there were significant differences in Cd （0.06-0.59 mg/kg） and Pb （0.25-3.15 mg/kg） levels in their brown rice, and similar results were also found for the micronutrient elements. Significant decreases in concentrations of Fe and Mn were detected with increasing Cd concentrations and a significant elevation in Fe, Mn and Ni with increasing Pb concentrations. A similar result was also shown by Cd and Ni. Three cultivars were identified with a combination of low brown rice Cd and Pb, high micronutrient and grain yield （Wufengyou 2168, Tianyou 196 and Guinongzhan）. Present results suggest that it is possible to breed rice eultivars with low mixed toxic element （Cd, Pb） and high micronutrient contents along with high grain yields, thus ensuring food safety and quality.

Machilus maomingensis Jin et Tang,*** the Eocene Youganwo Formation of the Maoming Basin,South China,is studied in detail from the perspective of the leaf architecture and the excellently preserved *** leaf margin is entire,the primary venation is pinnate;6 to 8secondary veins are present and the major secondary venation is *** are paracytic and occur on the lower *** bases are *** cells are present in the upper *** new fossil species described has features of the Lauraceae,particularly of the extant genus Machilus Rumphius ex Nees,and it is most similar to Machilus chinensis（Bentham）Hemsley,an extant species distributed in southern China and ***,Machilus maomingensis *** inferred to live in a warm and humid *** discovery of the present fossil indicates that Machilus has existed in South China from at least the Eocene.
