Swelling and erosion assisted sustained release of tea polyphenol from antibacterial ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene for joint replacement

The considerable hazard posed by periprosthetic joint infections underlines the urgent need for the rapid advancement of in-situ drug delivery systems within joint materials. However, the pursuit of sustained antibacterial efficacy remains a formidable challenge. In this context, we proposed a novel strategy that leverages swelling and erosion mechanisms to facilitate drug release of drug-loaded ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene(UHMWPE), thereby ensuring its long-lasting antibacterial *** oxide(PEO), a hydrophilic polymer with fast hydrating ability and high swelling capacity, was incorporated in UHMWPE alongside the antibacterial tea polyphenol(epigallocatechin gallate,EGCG as representative). The swelling of PEO enhanced water infiltration into the matrix, while the erosion of PEO balanced the release of the encapsulated EGCG, resulting in a steady release. The behavior was supported by the EGCG release profiles and the corresponding fitted release kinetic *** demonstrated by segmented antibacterial assessments, the antibacterial efficiency was enhanced 2to 3 times in the PEO/EGCG/UHMWPE composite compared to that of EGCG/UHMWPE. Additionally, the PEO/EGCG/UHMWPE composite exhibited favorable biocompatibility and mechanical performance, making it a potential candidate for the development of drug-releasing joint implants to combat prosthetic bacterial infections.

Distribution of rare earth elements in sewage-irrigated soil profiles in Tianjin,China

The concentrations of rare earth elements （REEs） in the soil extracts and soil solutions from two different alluvial soil profiles irrigated with sewage were measured using inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry. The results showed that the REE concentrations in the soil extracts from soil samples affected by sewage irrigation were much higher than those in virgin soil samples. The REE concentrations in the soil extracts of the rhizophere soil were higher than those of the non-rhizophere soil. The shale-normalized REE patterns in the soil extracts from the upper soil layer affected by sewage irrigation shown middle REE （MREE） enrichment relative to light REE （LREE） and heavy REE （HREE）. This result was attributed to the MREE-rich organic colloidal material, REE-HM （humic and fulvic acids） and phosphate-REE complexations. The REE patterns in the soil extracts from deep soil little-affected by sewage irrigation showed HREE enrichment relative to LREE, which might have been caused by the preferential complexation of HREE with carbonate. The normalized La/Yb ratios in the soil extracts increased with the decrease in depth. The sewage irrigation did not affect the total REE contents and REE pattern in the soil profiles.

method was used to derive the stiffness curve equation of a single throttle-slice in shock absorbers. The analytical formula of large deflection for superposed throttle-slices was deduced directly and generalized. The undetermined coefficients of analytical for- mula were obtained through the finite element method （FEM） and curve fitting. Numerical results show that the analytical formula has satisfactory accuracy.

Effect of boundary conditions on shakedown analysis of heterogeneous materials

The determination of the ultimate load-bearing capacity of structures made of elastoplastic heterogeneous materials under varying loads is of great importance for engineering analysis and design. Therefore, it is necessary to accurately predict the shakedown domains of these materials. The static shakedown theorem, also known as Melan's theorem, is a fundamental method used to predict the shakedown domains of structures and materials. Within this method, a key aspect lies in the construction and application of an appropriate self-equilibrium stress field(SSF). In the structural shakedown analysis, the SSF is typically constructed by governing equations that satisfy no external force(NEF) boundary conditions. However, we discover that directly applying these governing equations is not suitable for the shakedown analysis of heterogeneous materials. Researchers must consider the requirements imposed by the Hill-Mandel condition for boundary conditions and the physical significance of representative volume elements(RVEs). This paper addresses this issue and demonstrates that the sizes of SSFs vary under different boundary conditions, such as uniform displacement boundary conditions(DBCs), uniform traction boundary conditions(TBCs), and periodic boundary conditions(PBCs). As a result, significant discrepancies arise in the predicted shakedown domain sizes of heterogeneous materials. Built on the demonstrated relationship between SSFs under different boundary conditions, this study explores the conservative relationships among different shakedown domains, and provides proof of the relationship between the elastic limit(EL) factors and the shakedown loading factors under the loading domain of two load vertices. By utilizing numerical examples, we highlight the conservatism present in certain results reported in the existing literature. Highly oriented MXene/polyvinyl alcohol films prepared by scalable layer-by-layer blade coating for efficient electromagnetic interference shielding and infrared stealth

Controlling the orientation of two-dimensional MXene within layered films is essential to optimize or tune their mechanical properties and electromagnetic interference shielding(EMI)performance,but achieving the high orientation MXene layers on an industrial scale remains a challenging *** this paper,a scalable layer-by-layer blade coating(LbLBC)method was employed to fabricate highly oriented MXene/polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)*** the LbLBC process,MXene/PVA colloid suffered a strong shearing effect,which induced the ordered alignment of MXene nanosheets along the direction of the blade *** orientation of MXene can be effectively adjusted by changing the scraping gap of LbLBC,achieving a maximum Herman orientation factor f of *** a result,the mechanical properties and EMI performance of the as-prepared MXene/PVA films are in direct proportion to their orientation,with the optimal values of tensile strength of 145.5 MPa,fracture strain of 19.6%,toughness of 17.7 MJ·m^(−3),and EMI shielding effectiveness of 36.7 ***,the inherently low mid-infrared(mid-IR)emissivity of MXene,combined with the densely oriented structure affords the composite films with IR stealth,resulting in a substantial decrease from 150 to 66.1℃in the radiative temperature of a ***,these scalable MXene/PVA films exhibit remarkable potential for integration into the next generation of multifunctional protective camouflage materials.

Zn metal anode suffers from dendrite issues and passive byproducts,which severely plagues the practical application of aqueous Zn metal ***,a polyzwitterionic cross-linked double network hydrogel electrolyte composed of physical crosslinking(hyaluronic acid)and chemical crosslinking(synthetic zwitterionic monomer copolymerized with acrylamide)is introduced to overcome these *** the one hand,highly hydrophilic physical network provides an energy dissipation channel to buffer stress and builds a H_(2)O-poor interface to avoid side *** the other hand,the charged groups(sulfonic and imidazolyl)in chemical crosslinking structure build anion/cation transport channels to boost ions’kinetics migration and regulate the typical solvent structure[Zn(H_(2)O)_(6)]^(2+)to R-SO_(3)^(−)[Zn(H_(2)O)_(4)]^(2+),with uniform electric field distribution and significant resistance to dendrites and parasitic *** on the above functions,the symmetric zinc cell exhibits superior cycle stability for more than 420 h at a high current density of 5 mA·cm^(−2),and Zn||MnO_(2)full cell has a reversible specific capacity of 150 mAh·g^(−1)after 1000 cycles at 2 C with this hydrogel ***,the pouch cell delivers impressive flexibility and cyclability for energy-storage applications.

This article focuses on the effect of different foaming process on acoustic performance of a vehicle with a typical vehicle lightweight floor *** carpet structure difference between 2 different foaming processes was discussed firstly.A statistical energy analysis（SEA） based transmission loss model was developed to predict the sound transmission loss（STL） under different boundary *** was found that the STL of the carpet with direct foaming process is much worse than the separate foaming process carpet when the boundary condition was *** a full vehicle SEA model was developed to predict the sound pressure level（SPL） at the front-left（FL） driver’s *** parallel,a test was conducted to measure the SPL response at the same space after the floor was assembled on the *** test results showed the good agreement with the simulation results.

Enhanced Crystallization of Poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate)by a Self-assembly Nucleating Agent

Poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate)(PBAT)is a promising biodegradable flexible polymer but suffers from slow crystallization rate,making it less attractive for some applications like the injection-molded products in comparison with low-density polyethylene(LDPE).This work aimed to accelerate the crystallization of PBAT by adding a self-assembly nucleating agent octamethylenedicarboxylic dibenzoylhydrazide(OMBH).PBAT/OMBH composites with various OMBH contents(0 wt%,0.5 wt%,0.7 wt%,1 wt%,2 wt%,3 wt%and 5 wt%)were prepared through *** effect of OMBH on the crystallization behavior,morphologies and mechanical properties of PBAT was *** highest nucleation efficiency value of 59.6%was achieved for PBAT with 0.7 wt%OMBH,much higher than that of 22.7%for PBAT with 0.7 wt%*** force microscopy results showed that OMBH formed fine fibers and induced the formation of transcrystalline layers of *** transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR)combined with two-dimensional correlation spectra suggested that the intermolecular dipole-dipole N—H…O=C interactions but not hydrogen bond between OMBH and PBAT promoted the crystallization of PBAT in the initial period of *** presence of OMBH did not change the crystal form of PBAT but had positive contribution in enhancing its crystallinity and mechanical *** work is essential for preparing PBAT with high crystallization rate,enhancing its potential applications in injection-molded products.

Adsorption Enthalpy Calculations of Hydrogen Adsorption at Ambient Temperature and Pressures Exceeding 300 bar

Hydrogen adsorption isotherms were measured at ambient temperature to pressures exceeding 300 bar for three benchmark adsorbents: two metal-organic frameworks, Cu3(btc)2 (btc = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate) and Zn4O(btb)2 (btb = 1,3,5-benzenetribenzoate), and the activated carbon MSC-30. The Dubinin-Astakhov model was applied to calculated absolute adsorption isotherms as a function of the fugacity to determine the adsorption enthalpy at ambient temperature. Comparisons of the calculated enthalpies and the surface excess concentration (excess adsorption per square meter of surface) show that Zn4O(btb)2 has an adsorption enthalpy comparable to MSC-30, but that the spacing between adsorbed molecules is much larger.
