Kinetic calculations for the thermal decomposition of calcium propionate under non-isothermal conditions

Calcium propionate (CP) is shown to be useful for simultaneous SO2/NO reduction in coal-fired power plants and its thermal decomposition characteristics are measured by thermogravimetric analysis in a feasibility study into more complete reduction of these hazardous gases. Calcium carbonate (CC), which has been used primarily for in-furnace desulfuration, was used for comparison. The thermal decomposition of this organic calcium-based sorbent began at low temperature, i.e. the carboxylic radical was evaporated from 565 K to 759 K for CP and the corresponding mass loss percentage was 47.79%. The residual was subsequently decomposed to release carbon dioxide between 843 K and 1012 K. The latter phase of the process occurred more readily than with CC because of the loose structure of CP resulting from evaporation of the carboxylic radical in the low temperature zone, which could be seen directly by scanning electron microscope. The maximum mass loss rates of this phase occurred at temperatures of 972 K and 1012 K for CP and CC, respectively. The Ozawa-Flynn-Wall method was used to calculate the activation energy during the thermal decomposition process at heating rates of 5, 7.5, 10 and 15 K/min. The result further confirmed the multistage characteristic of CP thermal decomposition, which could be seen in differential thermogravimetry curves. The reaction orders of CP in the conversion range 20%-80%, calculated using the Avrami theory were from 0.061 to 0.608, smaller than those of CC, which were 1.647 to 2.084.

Lime mud(LM),a solid waste from the paper mill,is used as an economic and environmental friendly heterogeneous basic catalyst for transesterification,which is accompanied by characterization of X-ray fluorescence,thermogravimetric-differential thermal analysis,X-ray diffraction,N2adsorption,and Hammett indicator method.To investigate the performance of the achieved catalyst,which is activated through calcination,the aspects of calcination temperature,reaction time,mole ratio of methanol to oil,catalyst addition percentage,and reaction temperature are concerned.Characterization of catalyst reveals that LM could be activated through calcination to transform the carbonate and hydrate of calcium into the oxide forms and higher calcination temperature could lead to stronger basic strength.However,N2adsorption results indicate that higher temperature causes the sintering of the catalyst and shrinkage of the catalyst grains.When LM is activated at 800°C(LM-800)and the reaction is carried out at 64°C with a methanol to oil mole ratio of 15:1,catalyst addition percentage of 6%,and reaction time of 2h,the maximum transesterification conversion of 94.35%could be achieved.Reusability of LM-800 is also investigated compared with laboratory grade CaO in five reaction cycles and the results indicate that the catalysts derived from LM can be used as an economic and efficient catalyst for biodiesel production.

BACKGROUND Due to the rarity of mesenchymal-epithelial transition factor(MET)fusions,the clinical efficacy of crizotinib has only been described in a few patients with MET fusions involving various fusion partners.Herein,we report the clinical response to crizotinib of a patient with advanced poorly differentiated non-small cell carcinoma(NSCLC)having concurrent MET fusions.CASE SUMMARY A 46-year-old woman was diagnosed with poorly differentiated NSCLC(T4 N3 M1).With no classic driver mutations,she was treated with two cycles of gemcitabine and cisplatin without clinical benefit.Targeted sequencing revealed the detection of two concurrent MET fusions,KIF5 B-MET and novel MET-CDR2.Crizotinib was initiated at a dose of 250 mg twice daily.Within 4 wk of crizotinib therapy,repeat computed chromatography revealed a dramatic reduction in primary and metastatic lesions,assessed as partial response.She continued to benefit from crizotinib for 3 mo until disease progression and died within 1 mo despite receiving nivolumab therapy.CONCLUSION Crizotinib sensitivity was observed in an advanced poorly differentiated NSCLC patient with concurrent MET fusions KIF5 B-MET and MET-CDR2.Crizotinib can serve as a therapeutic option for patients with MET fusions.In addition,our case also highlights the importance of comprehensive genomic profiling particularly in patients with no classic driver mutation for guiding alternative therapeutic decisions.

Few effective therapies have been developed for the treatment of lung squamous cell carcinoma （SQCC）, in part due to a lack of un- derstanding regarding the mechanisms underlying the initiation and development of this disease. Whole transcriptome sequencing not only provides insight into the expression of all transcribed genes, but offers an efficient approach for identifying genetic variations, including gene fusions, mutations and alternative splicing. In this study, we performed whole transcriptome sequencing of 10 patients with stage IIIA lung SQCC, and discovered a large number of single nucleotide variants （SNVs： mean of 12.2 SNVs/Mb）, with C〉T/G〉A and A〉G/T〉C transitions being the most frequently observed. Additionally, a total of 132 gene fusions were identified based upon TopHat alignments, 70.5% （93/132） of which occurred as a result of intra-chromosomal rearrangements. Based on the number of supporting reads for each fusion, we further validated 20 of the 26 top gene fusions by RT-PCR and Sanger sequencing. Taken together, these data provide an in-depth view of transcriptional alterations in lung SQCC patients, and may be useful for identification of new therapeutic targets.

Red mud(RM),as an alkaline waste,was recently proved to be a promising substitute for the SCR catalyst.Dealkalization could improve the acidity and reducibility of red mud,which were critical for SCR reaction.However,the dealkalization effect depended on the reaction between acid solution and red mud.In this study,we realized the directional control of the chemical state of active sites through tuning the acid pretreatment(dealkalization)process.The pretreatment endpoint was controlled at pH values of 3–5 with diluted nitric acid.When the pH values of red mud were 3 and 5(CRM-3 and CRM-5),activated catalysts showed NOx conversion above 90%at 275℃–475℃.The high initial reaction rate,Ce^(3+)/(Ce^(3+)+Ce^(4+))ratio,and surface acidity accounted for the excellent SCR performance of CRM-5 catalyst.Meanwhile,more Fe^(3+) on the CRM-3 surface improved the NH_(3) adsorption.There was a strong interaction between Al and Fe in both CRM-5 and CRM-3 catalysts.DFT results showed that the adsorption capacity of the Al-O_(3)-Fe for NH_(3) and NO is stronger than that of Fe-O_(3)-Fe,which enhanced the NOx conversion of the catalyst.However,the almandine was formed in CRM-4,consumed part of Fe^(3+) and Al^(3+),and the interaction between Al and Fe was weakened.Also,deposited almandine on the catalyst surface covered the active sites,thus leading to lower NH_(3)-SCR activity.

Activated red mud(RM)has been proved to be a promising base material for the selective catalysis reduction(SCR)of NOx.The inherent low reducibility and acidity limited its low-temperature activity.In this work,molybdenum oxide,tungsten oxide,and cerium oxide were used to reconfigure the redox sites and acid sites of red mud based catalyst.When activated red mud was reconfigured by cerium-tungsten oxide(Ce-W@RM),the NOx conversion kept above 90%at 219-480℃.The existence of Ce^(3+)/Ce^(4+) redox electron pairs provided more surface adsorbed oxygen(O_(α)) and served as a redox cycle.Positive interactions between Ce,W species and Fe oxide in red mud occurred,which led to the formation of unsaturated chemical bond and promoted the activation of adsorbed NH_(3) species.WO_(3) and Ce_(2)(WO_(4))_(3)(formed by solid-state reaction between Ce and W species)could provide more Brønsted acid sites(W-O modes of WO_(3),W=O or W-O-W modes of Ce_(2)(WO_(4))_(3)).CeO_(2) species could provide more Lewis acid sites.The Langmuir-Hinshelwood(L-H)routes and Eley-Rideal(E-R)routes occurred in the low-temperature SCR reaction on the Ce-W@RM surface.NH_(4)^(+) species on Brønsted acid sites,NH_(3) species on Lewis acid sites,bidentate nitrate and bridging nitrate species were key active intermediates species.
