Official monthly *** force estimation at the sub-State level(mostly counties)is based on what is known as the‘Handbook’(HB)method,one of the earliest uses of administrative data for small area *** administrative data,however,are poor in coverage and have conceptual *** attempts to correct for the resulting bias of the HB estimates by informal(implicit)modelling have not been successful,due to the absence of regular direct monthly survey estimates at the sub-State *** the sub-State HB estimates each month to the State model dependent estimates helps to correct for an overall bias,but not in individual *** this article we propose benchmarking additionally to the annual model-dependent area *** annual models include known administrative data as covariates,and are used to define corresponding monthly sub-State models,which in turn enable producing monthly synthetic estimates as possible substitutes for the HB estimates in real time *** estimates,which account for sampling errors and the errors of the model dependent estimators are *** for sub-State areas in the State of Arizona are used for *** the methodology developed in this article stems from a particular(but very important)application,it is general and applicable to other similar problems.

Censored regression("Tobit") model is a special case of limited dependent variable regression model, and plays an important role in econometrics. Based on this model, all kinds of methods for variable or group variable selection have been developed and the corresponding shrinkage parameter estimates are widely studied. However, asymptotic distributions of the shrinkage estimates involve unknown nuisance parameters,such as density function of error term. To avoid estimating nuisance parameters, this paper presents a randomly weighting method to approximate to the asymptotic distribution of the shrinkage estimate. A computation procedure of random approximation is provided and asymptotic properties of the randomly weighting estimates are also obtained. The proposed methods are evaluated with extensively numerical studies and a women labor supply example.

Constructing Statistical Intervals for Small Area Estimates Based on Generalized Linear Mixed Model in Health Surveys

Generalized Linear Mixed Model (GLMM) has been widely used in small area estimation for health indicators. Bayesian estimation is usually used to construct statistical intervals, however, its computational intensity is a big challenge for large complex surveys. Frequentist approaches, such as bootstrapping, and Monte Carlo (MC) simulation, are also applied but not evaluated in terms of the interval magnitude, width, and the computational time consumed. The 2013 Florida Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System data was used as a case study. County-level estimated prevalence of three health-related outcomes was obtained through a GLMM;and their 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were generated from bootstrapping and MC simulation. The intervals were compared to 95% credential intervals through a hierarchial Bayesian model. The results showed that 95% CIs for county-level estimates of each outcome by using MC simulation were similar to the 95% credible intervals generated by Bayesian estimation and were the most computationally efficient. It could be a viable option for constructing statistical intervals for small area estimation in public health practice.

Over the past 40 years of reform and opening up, the Chinese economy has rapidly developed along with large-scale movement of population. For cities, migrant population means not only the changes in population and manpower, but also the influence on the whole economic system. On the basis of national censuses and 1% national population sample surveys, and in combination with the monitoring data of nationwide migrant population and urban economic and social statistics, the author explored the influences that migrant population has brought to urban economic development. The research suggests that migrant population will produce continuous and positive effects on the future development of urban labor market, transformation of economic structure, and improvement of economic efficiency in the medium-to-long term. Migrant population will not only supply cities for manpower and contribute to economic growth, but also drive economic efficiency improvement and the transformation of economic development *** future urban prosperity largely depends on how people understand and treat migrant population at present.

Quantile Regression for Right-Censored and Length-Biased Data

Length-biased data arise in many important fields, including epidemiological cohort studies, cancer screening trials and labor economics. Analysis of such data has attracted much attention in the literature. In this paper we propose a quantile regression approach for analyzing right-censored and length-biased data. We derive an inverse probability weighted estimating equation corresponding to the quantile regression to correct the bias due to length-bias sampling and informative censoring. This method can easily handle informative censoring induced by length-biased sampling. This is an appealing feature of our proposed method since it is generally difficult to obtain unbiased estimates of risk factors in the presence of length-bias and informative censoring. We establish the consistency and asymptotic distribution of the proposed estimator using empirical process techniques. A resampling method is adopted to estimate the variance of the estimator. We conduct simulation studies to evaluate its finite sample performance and use a real data set to illustrate the application of the proposed method.

Under the framework of growth accounting,this paper introduces four heterogeneity characteristics of labor,namely,educational level,age,gender and industry,constructs a cross classification matrix of employment,labor compensation and working hours,and calculates the labor input(volume)of the whole country and of 19 industries during *** it decomposes the volume into quantity and quality parts to analyze the total amount of labor input and the performance of industry labor *** results are as ***,during the research period,the annual growth rate of labor input was 2.5%,and 78.8%of that came from the growth of labor input *** growth of labor input was mainly resulted from the improvement of educational level and the optimization of industrial ***,in 2018,the proportions of labor input of the primary,secondary and tertiary sectors were 13.76%,31.06%and 55.18%respectively,and the transfer speed of labor input to the secondary and tertiary sectors was higher than that of the quantity structure;the labor input volume in the new economy and related industries in the tertiary sector has been greatly ***,the index method-based labor productivity(ILP)of some producer service and consumer service industries was relatively low,and the growth of total industry output mainly attributed to the increase of labor input and the expansion of industrial *** improvement of labor input quality has become the key to the growth of labor input in China,and the improvement of educational level is the core power to improve the labor input quality.

A Counterfactual Analysis on Unlimited Surplus labor in Rural China

Using a counterfactual analysis approach, the present paper examines a host of conventional wisdoms relating to issues of farmer, the countryside and agriculture, which are believed to be all originated from the existence of mass surplus laborers in China. When analyzing various sources of statistics, evidence shows that there is no longer a large pool of surplus laborers in rural China as most people believe. Based on this counterfactual result, all related events, such as the direction of agricultural technological changes, the level of comparative productivity of agricultural labor, and the degree of rural-urban income gap must be reconsidered.
