Structural transformation behaviors of several typical oxide cathode materials during a heating process are reviewed in detail to provide in-depth understanding of the key factors governing the thermal stability of these materials. We also discuss applying the information about beat induced structural evolution in the study of electrochemically induced structural changes. All these discussions are expected to provide valuable insights for designing oxide cathode materials with significantly improved structural stability for safe, long-life lithium ion batteries, as the safety of lithium-ion batteries is a critical issue; it is widely accepted that the thermal instability of the cathodes is one of the most critical factors in thermal runaway and related safety problems.

Transmission electron microscopy(TEM) has become one of the most powerful techniques in the fields of material science, inorganic chemistry and nanotechnology. In terms of resolutions, advanced TEM may reach a high spatial resolution of 0.05 nm, a high energy-resolution of 7 meV. In addition, in situ TEM can help researchers to image the process happened within 1 ms. This paper reviews the recent technical progresses of applying advanced TEM characterization on nanomaterials for catalysis. The text is organized based on the perspective of application: for example, size, composition, phase, strain, and morphology. The electron beam induced effect and in situ TEM are also introduced. I hope this review can help the scientists in related fields to take advantage of advanced TEM to their own researches.

In this paper a pair of observables are proposed as alternative ways,by examining the fluctuation of net momentum-ordering of charged pairs,to study the charge separation induced by the Chiral Magnetic Effect(CME)in relativistic heavy ion *** are,the out-of-plane to in-plane ratio of fluctuation of the difference between signed balance functions measured in pair’s rest frame,and the ratio of it to similar measurement made in the laboratory *** observables have been studied with simulations including flow-related backgrounds,and for the first time,backgrounds that are related to resonance's global spin *** two observables have similar positive responses to signal,and opposite,limited responses to identifiable backgrounds arising from resonance flow and spin *** observables have also been tested with two realistic models,namely,a multi-phase transport(AMPT)model and the anomalous-viscous fluid dynamics(AVFD)*** two observables,when cross examined,will provide useful insights in the study of CME-induced charge separation.

In this paper, we present some preliminary studies on using a Robinson wiggler to reduce the horizontal beam emittance in the Hefei Light Source II （HLS-II） storage ring. A proof-of-principle lattice demonstrates that it is possible to reduce its emittance by 50% with a 2-meter long wiggler. This encouraging result suggests a feasible option to significantly improve the machine performance at a relatively low cost.

Commercial off-the-shelf(COTS) ADCs(analog-to-digital converters) that are radiation-tolerant, high speed,high density and low power will be used in upgrading the LAr(liquid argon) calorimeter front end(FE) trigger readout electronics. Total ionization dose(TID) and single event effect(SEE) of the COTS ADCs should be characterized. In our initial TID test, 17 COTS ADCs from different manufacturers with dynamic range and sampling rate meeting requirements of the FE electronics were checked, and the ADS5272 of Texas Instruments(TI) was the best performer of all. Another interesting feature of ADS5272 is its 6.5 clock cycles latency, which is the shortest of all the 17 candidates. Based on the TID performance, we designed an SEE evaluation system for ADS5272, which allows us to further assess its radiation tolerance. In this paper, we present a detailed design of ADS5272 SEE evaluation system and show the effectiveness of this system while evaluating ADS5272 SEE characteristics in multiple irradiation tests. According to TID and SEE test results, ADS5272 was chosen to be implemented in the full-size LAr Trigger Digitizer Board(LTDB) demonstrator, which will be installed on ATLAS calorimeter during the 2014 Long Shutdown 1(LS1).
