Manual and alternative therapies as non-pharmacological interventions for pain and stress control in newborns:a systematic review

Background Supporting therapies that provide stress and pain control of preterm and term newborns infants contribute positively to the neuropsychomotor ***-pharmacological interventions that involve manual techniques are described,considering protocols that can be reproduced by physical therapists,with positive and negative outcomes *** sources Systematic review follows PRISMA 2020 statements *** and specific health sciences databases(Science Direct,Pubmed,Scielo,Embase and Scopus)were consulted between October 2021 and May *** con-sidered were clinical trials,randomized or not,that included descriptions of the type of intervention as non-pharmacological and that studied the following outcomes:"pain"and"stress".Results Fifteen articles were selected for analysis,reaching a methodological quality of at least 3 on the Jadad Scale for the Quality of Researched *** non-pharmacological therapies most applied in isolation were massage,swaddling or wrapping,gentle touch and kinesthetic stimulation,and the combined therapies were non-nutritive sucking and swad-dling,oral sucrose and swaddling,sensory stimulation and familiar odors,and sensory *** outcomes found were relaxation,pain,and stress reduction after the application of painful *** behavioral changes included crying,grimacing,yawning,sneezing,jerky arm or leg movements,startles,and finger *** vital signs included heart rate,blood oxygen saturation level,and pulse *** Combined techniques lead to better results in controlling neonatal pain when compared to isolated *** can be applied both in preterm and term infants in a safe way and are reproducible in any health unit in a simple and economical way.

Pseudo-discontinuum model to simulate hard-rock mine pillars

In this study,the pseudo-discontinuum modeling technique,called continuum Voronoi block model(CVBM),was applied to repre-sent the behavior of hard-rock pillars from underground mines subjected to high field *** CVBM’s ability to produce numerical results consistent with the observed behavior of pillars is demonstrated through the numerical analysis of a hypothetical case and a back analysis of the Creighton mine *** results show that the model can capture convergence displacements and explicitly show the formation of macro-fractures parallel to excavation walls,intact rock slabs,and V-shaped *** components are characteristics of brittle failure induced by highly stressed ground *** studies presented in this work confirm the CVBM as a convenient tool for the numerical modeling of intact rock pillars excavated in deep underground mines.

Stable two-sided matching of slot allocation in airport collaborative decision making by top trading cycles mechanism

The problem of capacity shortage in some airports needs to be dealt with sustainable solutions including a more efficient use of the existing runway slots at the airports. The Collaborative Decision Making（CDM） is an important approach applied to Air Traffic Management（ATM）to achieve this efficient use of the slots allocation. Using the Matching approach for two-sided markets of Game theory, the Top Trading Cycle CDM（TTC-CDM） algorithm developed in this research is an extension of the CDM approach aggregating the Ground Delay Program（GDP）of the air sector. The paper compared the developed TTC-CDM model to the existing models such as the conventional Compression algorithm in CDM, the Trade Cycle algorithm and the Deferred Acceptance CDM（DA-CDM） model to evaluate the performance of the proposed model. Through a case study, the results show the effective application of TTC-CDM model to slot allocation in ATM and also presents the advantage of considering the preferences of airport managers beside ATC controllers and airlines in the decision processing.

Crop residues: applications of lignocellulosic biomass in the context of a biorefinery

Interest in lignocellulosic biomass conversion technologies has increased recently because of their potential to reduce the dependency on non-renewable feedstocks. Residues from a variety of crops are the major source of lignocellulose, which is being produced in increasingly large quantities worldwide. The commercial exploitation of crop residues as feedstocks for biorefineries which could be used to produce a variety of goods such as biofuels, biochemicals, bioplastics, and enzymes is an attractive approach not only for adding value to residues but also for providing renewable products required by the expanding bioeconomy market. Moreover, the implementation of biorefineries in different regions has the potential to add value to the specific crop residues produced in the region. In this review, several aspects of crop residue application in biorefineries are discussed, including the role of crop residues in the bioeconomy and circular economy concepts, the main technical aspects of crop residue conversion in biorefineries, the main crop residues generated in different regions of the world and their availability, the potential value-added bioproducts that can be extracted or produced from each crop residue, and the major advantages and challenges associated with crop residue utilization in biorefineries. Despite their potential, most biomass refining technologies are not sufficiently advanced or financially viable. Several technical obstacles, especially with regard to crop residue collection, handling, and pre-treatment, prevent the implementation of biorefineries on a commercial scale. Further research is needed to resolve these scale-up-related challenges. Increased governmental incentives and bioeconomic strategies are expected to boost the biorefinery market and the cost competitiveness of biorefinery products.

An updated overview on the development of new photosensitizers for anticancer photodynamic therapy

Photodynamic therapy(PDT), based on the photoactivation of photosensitizers(PSs), has become a well-studied therapy for cancer. Photofrin~?, belonging to the first generation of PS, is still widely used for the treatment of different kinds of cancers; however, it has several drawbacks that significantly limit its general clinical use. Consequently, there has been extensive research on the design of PS molecules with optimized pharmaceutical properties, with aiming of overcoming the disadvantages of traditional PS, such as poor chemical purity, long half-life, excessive accumulation into the skin, and low attenuation coefficients. The rational design of novel PS with desirable properties has attracted considerable research in the pharmaceutical field. This review presents an overview on the classical photosensitizers and the most significant recent advances in the development of PS with regard to their potential application in oncology.

Estimative of real number of infections by COVID-19 in Brazil and possible scenarios

Online social networks(OSNs)offer people the opportunity to join communities where they share a common interest or *** kind of community is useful for studying the human behavior,diffusion of information,and dynamics of *** the members of a community are always changing,an efficient solution is needed to query information in real *** paper introduces the Follow Model to present the basic relationship between users in OSNs,and combines it with the MapReduce solution to develop new algorithms with parallel paradigms for *** models for reverse relation and high-order relation of the users were implemented in the Hadoop *** on 75 GB message data and 26 GB relation network data from Twitter,a case study was realized using two dynamic discussion communities:#musicmonday and#*** querying performance demonstrates that the new solution with the implementation in Hadoop significantly improves the ability to find useful information from OSNs.

New minimal surfaces in the hyperbolic space

We obtain new complete minimal surfaces in the hyperbolic space H3, by using Ribaucour transformations. Starting with the family of spherical catenoids in H^3 found by Mori(1981), we obtain 2-and 3-parameter families of new minimal surfaces in the hyperbolic space, by solving a non trivial integro-differential system. Special choices of the parameters provide minimal surfaces whose parametrizations are defined on connected regions of R^2 minus a disjoint union of Jordan curves. Any connected region bounded by such a Jordan curve, generates a complete minimal surface, whose boundary at infinity of H^3 is a closed curve. The geometric properties of the surfaces regarding the ends, completeness and symmetries are discussed.

Measurements in Situ and Spectral Analysis of Wind Flow Effects on Overhead Transmission Lines
